    Great job on the yellow! The Grenadier look like an up-armored Stormtrooper.

    This is honestly the easiest yellow tutorial I've ever seen. I'm appalled how simple it all is yet amazingly well done nonetheless.

    I know you probably get many comments like this, but I just want to take the time to express how appreciative myself (and others) are that you provide us with this content. I found you earlier this year getting back into miniature painting, and quickly binged all of your videos and its evident that your skill and expertise has grown along with the years you've been painting and posting videos. Your kind demeanor and happy attitude has made you a pleasure to listen to, and I look forward to your uploads as much as any other miniature content creator out there. Thank you for taking the time to show you methods, personality, and thoughts; and please don't ever stop.

      Well, I don't hear it quite as often as you might think, but it's always a real pleasure when someone stops in to let me know. Thank you!

    The timing for this has come in handy as I was about to start buying some Tau models of which I want to use a very similar colour scheme. I think Yellow Tau will look amazing and seeing these just confirms my suspicions.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +4

      I tend to prefer Tau that are eye-scaldingly bright, too. Just suits their armour style better, I think.

    Have you ever considered using a pink spray base? Lessons from painting jets is base pink for yellows and reds. Red arrow gnats. More effective than white as you have various shades of pink.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +2

      I've used skin tone sprays as a base for yellow and orange before, but in this case found it a little easier to work from white. When shading 'down' to dull a ludicrously bright yellow, it's a little simpler; if I were to paint the long way around and layer up the yellow to look nicer, I'd start from that pinkish tone and work from there.

    This would have been a great tutorial to watch a few months ago when I painted up a kitbashed robot for This Is Not A Test. It was intended to be a construction robot repurposed for battle. So I made him yellow with some black and white warning strips like a construction vehicle. Have to admit, the yellow was a bit of a PITA. I used a soft tone from Army Painted to shade it since I didn't have Cadian Flesh wash or something similar. Worked out pretty well. Not 100% happy with the results but it worked for what I was trying to do. All my other players think it looks great, so maybe it's a case of me being my own worst critic (guilty as charged).

    REALLY beautiful mini, I've some of their power armours, and these are some of the best ones on the market, their military equipments have a realistic, hard sci-fi vibe, without useless tecno babbles.

      That's something I really like about Anvil's designs, too. They look a little more like they'd work - a bit chunkier, but they have a nice logic to them.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +8

      Right? Stargrave was what I was thinking of when the red stripe went on. There's a couple of different weapon options in the STLs - I imagine they'll be rifles or carbines available by selection when they're up for purchase physically.

    @robisonwells1 Před 2 lety +2

    Really loved this one. I've never been able to manage yellow without it looking too sickly or orange. This looks great. I'm going to have to remember the recipe.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +2

      The trick, essentially, is to start from a really desaturated yellow. Staying in 'yellow' is going to end up really overpowering very quickly, if you're working with a simple recipe. Better to go too pale, then shade in the fixes and use a bone colour to highlight.
