      Totally agree, though wotc already knew how bad this would compare to the original when producing it of course, but this way it's easier money. I'm curious to see if they will make the next any better, or just the same as this one, when it turns out to be profitable.

      @@willjackson5885 def the latter, but that mentality is more so directed in favor of experienced players. It's (probably) easier for new players to get a foot in the door if the first thing they have to deal with it confronting card legality in half a dozen formats because _some_ cards are legal in standard and some aren't, despite them coming from the _same_ set, in same box and pack.

    No. Nothing in it is worth value but can be fun. It is worth noting that this product is replacing theme boosters. For fun time its ok. Buy 2 packs and play but not worth buying a box for.

    I think this is the sort of product that will improve as we get more of them per set. Easier to take like a Dominaria United and mix it with, say, Phyrexia: All Will Be One. Right now it looks middling as a result, but I'll be happy to pick up a mix-and-match set of packs this time next year at my LGS and shuffle them together and play with friends before an event.
    It is still sadly unfortunate that these are such a vast downgrade from the last Jumpstart release, though. I hope these Standard ones improve as time goes on.

    I bought V1 jumpstart on the strength of your description of it - seemed like a great resource to have on hand for parties and such. When I saw how they changed the viability of the product I knew I was going to be avoiding. I'll be very wary of the next Jumpstart product and likely won't buy any unless it passes the smell test.

    I agree to every single word said in this video (other than the sponsored part bc I skipped it). I bought the first Jumpstart and since the announcement of this product, I have been a lot excited for its release. But, it's what WOTC do best, gets us excited and then go testing, trying to figure out the line where they can do less for more. If they knew the first was a success, why change? You can't say they tried to make anything better with this product. There is nothing comparable between them, but their name.

    Professor, your honest and genuine analyses of upcoming Magic: The Gathering products are one of the things that keep bringing me back to this channel, and I wish Wizards of the Coast would entertain some of your ideas for product improvement or, at the very least, acknowledge your pleas regarding the faults and pitfalls of a CCG you clearly and enthusiastically love dearly. Your product reviews have warned and prevented me from investing in many MTG products, and I invite everyone who has been affected by your reviews to speak up. Wizards of the Coast needs to know, repeatedly and often, the quality of their products is not holding up to scrutiny and will not be purchased by a large number of the player base; the larger the number heard by them, the more likely we will see improvement.
    In short, thank you again for taking the time and financial burden to review products such as these. I know it has save me a great deal of sunken cost and disappointment, and I am a happier member of the hobby as a result.

    I am an experienced MTG player who was lucky to have a friend wanting to start playing Magic this month. My friend opened two "blue theme" boosters.

    Honestly I was really excited when I heard about Dominaria Jumpstart but after seeing the decklist of the packs and realizing it's all the same 5 themes I decided to make my own Jumpstart. I went back to a set I loved Kaldheim and created 10 unique Jumpstart packs that play very well and have some nice synergies across packs. So if I can do that within 1 set you'd think Wizards could manage at least 10 unique themes. They barley even scratched the surface of the set.

  • @YoGramGram1
    @YoGramGram1 Před rokem

    They need to just make a set agnostic annual jumpstart that is limited-style and then for each set make a commander/brawl style jumpstart, that way there can be a “controlled” way to pull commander cards in a semi regular fashion as well as keep it all fresh. The booster pack content planning would have to have a bit more thought put into it but I think it would help vary the product up, be a better excuse for “color themes”, and allow for more variety with less work.
    For example, you take 3 booster packs, each containing 30 cards, 20 of which are one color that include the appropriate amount of land, as well as 10 cards that are a hodgepodge of dual lands, dual and three color cards, commanders, etc etc. This allows for new players to get their feet wet doing very controlled deck building in maybe the most daunting format to build decks in: commander/brawl. Once you have your core 60 cards, substitute in any of the multicolored cards that you want that fit the color profile and choose a commander. Boom, you’re playing the first logical game of brawl on the planet.

    I bought 8 packs for my play group of four. We're gonna play on Monday and I'm racking my brain as to how to make sure we'll actually have _fun._
    Luckily I still have 4 packs of original JumpStart left. And all the packs we've opened in previous sessions in cube shells. Those should help.
    Heck, I even have a few silver border "jumpstarts" I made from the Unsanctioned decks. Those are amazingly cheap, if you buy them without the lands.

    Dominaria United has 10 common dual lands. There is also lot of Uncommon multicolored Legends to support Dual Color themes.. They could do these packs/decks with this in mind and product will be way better (10 themes, each with two options of Rares you can open.. 20 different possible packs). Or just add more reprints from older sets with Dominaria United Commander set symbol and they can have more bling without more work.
