  • After seeing a very sus repair video do the rounds online, I had to try this one for myself. Like a lot of BMWs from the era, my E39 has lost most of the pixels on the dashboard LCD over time, and I've made repairing it one of the last things on my list for the car due to the expense and effort required. But for $13, I thought this was worth a shot in the meantime.
Of course, attempt this at your own risk in a safe manner, keeping in mind you may have better / worse results than me.

I tried your method on my stock radio (BMW 2003 X5) and it worked. All the pixels turned on. I should’ve listened to you because I tried your method on my cluster and now it’s worse and on top of that I have the brake, ABS and traction light on. Now I’m trying to figure out how to get rid of those three lights. I’ll try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting to the issue. There’s a guy on eBay that’ll eplace the LCD for 100 bucks. I might just end up doing that. My X5 is a solid car with 98,000 on it. Any additional recommendations would greatly be appreciated thank you and thanks for posting that video.

I’d go for the replacement service, I’m hoping it fixes your warning lights too - that’s weird they came on

I hung up my climate control module with piezo from lighters. Don't try!!!! I was lucky to reset it with just pulling out fuses Nr.9 and Nr.20.
    Everything is ok now.😅

The point of a hack is not to spend money. Step 1: Fail. Interesting video though

Hence why the first word in the video title is ‘Don’t’ 😅

Would you recommend doing this on a Rolls Royce?

If you drive a Rolls Royce then yes

Best course of action is remove the V12, swap it into a Golf, 1.9TDI in the Rolls and then Haltech digital dash to replace the dead one

@@OEMStez i've done it on my opel (vauxhall) zafira, try using the lighter piezo ignitor, its way lower voltage and actually doesn't damage the pixels like the huge one you used, its way overpowered for the pixels to handle it, the 20 cents lighter piezo does wonders to those displays, i did mine like maybe a month ago and still works like a brand new one
