- Hi guys welcome back to my channel to day I will discuss some of the pros and cons of being stationed at joint base Lewis McCord many of these are my opinions and some are of friends and associates I have come to know. I hope this is informative and helpful.
I love your video! Most of all, I love the fact that you mentioned that the people aren't friendly because being from the South (Florida) we expect everyone to be friendly but not here. Thank you for sharing this important point!
I’m from DC and this was very informational, THANK YOU
Washington is on my bucket list to see for sure. Any pics I’ve ever seen looks beautiful!
It is. I'm from the Washington D.C. area but have spent most of my life in the Seattle area. I love it here. Except...it's a bit too Caucasian. LOL. I miss hanging out with more diverse folks.
I just moved back to Washington (10/2021) after 16 years in Virginia and your summation is great. Right on point, sorry I missed ya'll cuz.
Hey cousin 🤗 definitely want to go back the spring and fall are just amazing! Thanks for supporting my channel !
Great video ! I was stationed in Lewis 14’-18’ and absolutely fell in Love with the state of Washington. So much to see and do if you get orders to Lewis be happy !
So true, great outdoor activities for families and and single people alike and a city life in Seattle and a short drive to Portland as well.
Thanks for you video! I'm excited!
You're welcome, i cant imagine someone not enjoying their time there. Good luck!
Thank you so much for this video! My fiancé just got his orders and we’re PCSing there in a few months! Your video made me a million times more excited. I also love your personality and outlook :)
I am so happy to hear that! If you'd like look at my playlist of things to do around the base
I really enjoyed it there it is one of the most wanted based and you have gotta make a day trip to Seattle!
Thank you for your content. Lovely presentation.
Thank you for watching
I love this! I'm a military spouse CZcamsr as well and love finding new content (or recycled! 🥰) that helps make this lifestyle a little easier! We're (supposed to be) PCSing to Japan and finding info has been like pulling teeth! Def Subbed and turned on notifications!
Hey hon! Thanks so much for stopping by my channel and supporting me. As a bet I swore I knew all I needed to navigate spouse life but I was so wrong😆 so I started this channel to help!
@@athomewithtroy1690 Girl, SAME!!
I think these videos are very helpful. CZcams is one of the many ways people research. I love the tip of taking vitamin D💕 I’m always concern about cost of living. Lol I think that’s why I want to move down south so bad lol. I would love to visit Seattle 🥰. I’m with you about the water.
Lol made you a better parallel Parker ha ha
I love the idea of being young and traveling and learning so much about this world. I love winery💕I’m a foodie person also!! Great video darling!!
👍🛎
I appreciate the clarification on the “rain” over there. I’ve heard from people in my unit that it rains a lot and it’s cloudy, which will kind of bug me but I’ll appreciate the sunny days when they do come 😂. I’m at Eustis right now and I’m glad it’s not VA rain 🌧😂
Thanks for watching and I am glad it was helpful!
thank you for this video!! it makes this move sound a lot better for me!! im excited now ❤️
Ahhhhhh! I didn't know that was you guys next stop! Feel free to email me with specific questions or anything i really enjoyed it there
@@athomewithtroy1690 I’ll definitely be emailing soon! Trying to do as much research as possible!! Lol I’ll be needing you.
I got there and was told it doesn't snow there. My first year it snowed 6-12 inches. I'm from N.E. Ohio so I was use to it.
I5 traffic... fun fact Seattle WA is 1 hour away from Seattle WA. Moving here from Colorado the traffic is still hard for me 14 years later.
Lol we're the same in Puerto Rico! Just keep talking AS we say goodbye and walk towards the door or the car, then keep talking a little longer til we finally realize it's really time to go 😆
I have to give a top 5 for my next stations soon and my top 3 are Lewis, Eustis, and Carson. In no particular order. I'm coming from Korea. Videos like these are really helpful in making the decision how to rank them. Right now Lewis and Eustis are fighting for top spot. I'm an officer now so I got a bit more freedom when it comes to housing
So glad I could give you some things to consider.
Great content!
Thanks so much!
You're a Breath of fresh air
In 1995, people were way more friendly. Now in 2021 there are probably more people in Washington who aren't originally from the state. It has its moments but the real Washington is hidden farther from JBLM in more rural areas far west, south, and east.
Hi beautiful sist! Love it down here!
Just got word I might be heading there for my first duty station!
Congratulations let me tell you it's really beautiful here
My dad was stationed at JBLM (Fort Lewis TACP) from May 91- Nov 92
I will keep this is in my favorites, just in case we ever PCs there. We keep trying lol.
On my short list of duty stations I’d wanna go to
It's a great duty station in my opinion it's so versatile as long as you can bare the rainy season.
We are heading there in December! I’m so nervous.
Oh dont be it's a great place to be stationed a ton of things to do!
Love your positivity. I get SADD living here in IL. We should be moving to Bragg by end of 2020 and then move to our duty station. Will you guys be moving in the next 2-3 years or will you be at Lewis for an extended amount of year.
Thanks for watching hun, we will be leaving this year and we have been here for two years, we will be in bliss by the end of the summer
At Home With Troy We are at Bliss now and will head to JBLM before the end of the year. Bliss is a different world (and I personally had a hard time adjusting), but I am SOOO happy to be getting out of all this dust all the dang time!
@@OnwardandUpward86 hey hon guess what we are going to bliss this year 😂 I'm ready for a little dry after all this wetness!
We are from Virginia too! My son is getting ready to go there in March 2021. He is excited, but he will be so far from us. 😥 So glad you gave these tips and information. Sounds like a lot to do, and he loves to fish. He is an Apache helicopter mechanic, so would you know where he would be on the base? Or what it's called? Thank you and you have a wonderful personality!
Hi Debra 👋
So sorry for the late response, The main post is where he will most likely work. There are 3 parts to JBLM: main, north fort, and McCord air force base. There is a ton of outdoor stuff to do even on post there is a Lake and cabins along it to rent !
@@athomewithtroy1690 Thank you for this info. Have a wonderful day!
Hello!
Thank you for your video. The army is sending me to fort Lewis as first duty station. I am a 68w. Please do you have an idea of what part of the base I will working in? I will be off base.do you have some apartment propositions and I do not drive yet. Do they have a system of transportation for soldiers off base?
Were trying to buy a house off post but having a tough time figuring out if lacey or spanaway are too far away from North Lewis
Spanaway is really close to the mcchord gate and lacy is near the main post. It is a bit confusing the drive from one side if base to the other is literally a 15 drive😄
Do you know if this base deploys a lot?
Drives an F-150 👏🏾
Have you ever been stationed at Fort Eustis, or heard any pros & cons ? I'm stuck between the choice of going to Fort Lewis or Fort Eustis?
Its crazy you mention this I grew up on ft eustis I am a military brat and I did reserve there! I am from VA so I do have a bias opinion lol but in all seriousness I would choose ft Lewis Because of the mild weather and all of the beautiful sight seeing in outdoors things you can do. If you are more of a city person 45 minute drive you can go to Seattle and there's plenty of nightlife and there is plenty of shopping and really great restaurants in Tacoma as well. Ft eustis in my opinion is really focused on family life and activities. Also it is a hub for military. Oceanana naval base Langley AFB and a few other military bases are all within a hour of each other. There is Bush gardens and colonial Williamsburg very close. There is a small amount of night life in VA beach and Norfolk but very family oriented because of the beach.
I hope this is helpful I know it's all a bit of an over share.
@@athomewithtroy1690 I'm from jersey but I'm currently stationed at Fort Carson Colorado. I guess I wanted to be closer to home but after your informative response I'll think more on this choice.Thank you, this was very helpful on my choice!
Well I'm here for a year, huge base
Welcome !
Will they make us get a Top Secret clearance when we get there? I’m a 25B
Yes....wait.....no
Thanks sis in Virginia now will be moving to JBLM ON 29TH APRIL 2024, am soo confuse, please how long does it take to get a house when you are married and have dependant? Do you think it will be better to live off post or on post ?
For us it took about 2 weeks but time varies due to family size and other factors. I knew the day we would arrive so I applied for housing and was on the wait list a month before we arrived
I have a question, I was set to go to fort Lewis on the 20th. Now that the Corona virus has hit, will I be reassigned a new duty station?
I believe all PCS for the army has been halted until mid may, there has been a handful of positive covid 19 cases and by handful I mean 5 or less and not all live on post. The soldiers have been quarantined to their homes

Anyone can give me info for Bravo Co 23rd BEB fort lewis? And how's the barrack like? 😅
I don't have any info on the unit, but most army barracks are on fort north there are a few on main, from the outside they seem pretty modern, last time I was in barracks was in landstuhl Germany in 2007😆 sorry I couldn't give more info
Keep the new content coming.
🛎👍❤
Hello! Are you still living at JBLM? I would love to connect with you to ask some questions. We are living Japan and heading there this summer. I’m so worried about the cost of living and weather.
Hi I am no longer currently at J BLM my family have recently moved to Fort Bliss ( Around August of 2020) but I would be happy to answer any questions or concerns you might have we were stationed there for 2 years
My email is gutyntroytorres@gmail.com
@@athomewithtroy1690 email sent ☺️
My husband is already stationed at JBLM , we currently live off base but are soon moving on base. He’s also in the Air Force. Does it cost anything to live on base Because I was told it doesn’t
Also, I am very friendly and talkative! Would love to maybe get to know you when we move on base! Moved here from PA, so we’re on the look out for new friends hahaha
Hey Mariah! When living on post they automatically take all your spouse's BAH ( basic allowance for housing). So it feels free because you never feel it's gone the base pay is never touched. If you decided to live off post you'd pay with your bah and depending on weather you rent a place for more or less then the bah allotment you may have to touch the base pay or have some leftover to pocket.
Also is love to meet you when you arrive I live on the airforce side so it will easy to find each other!
At Home With Troy thank you so much for responding I really appreciate it! We should be there in October!
Oh no we are pcsing in july🙁 military life as soon as you meet a cool person you have to go. I will be in ft bliss if all things go according to plan.
At Home With Troy I hope Eve goes well!
Hi...I am new friends here 👍🛎❤
We stay connected ❤
Thanks so much I'd love to.
Do you ever run into any 68 series ? Are you I. The Army ?
I was, ( just a wife now 😊) I was a 68M, dietitian assistant Madigan is a very large hospital here that supports veterans as well so I am pretty sure there are a large amount here.
At Home With Troy. Thank you for responding so quickly. The reason I asked was because I’m a 68R and this is my next duty station and I was just looking for some advice. I was wonder about how the units and everything worked there
I wouldn't be able to say how they'd assign you to a unit but with your mos you could be doing Inspections at the hospital dfac or any of the army dfacs.
Was there a lot of rucking ?
Sorry Lala I was a spouse once I got to JBLM I was only active in Germany and San Antonio. My husband's unit had rucks every other week.
The lack of natural light makes people weird. Scandinavian countries are very similar. People NEED sunshine!
I agree whole heartily
SAD...seasonal affective disordrr
I hate JBLM. I miss Campbell sooooo bad
So sorry to hear that, I bbn hope you get to enjoy their outdoor activities once it get warm
