An incredibly superficial and non-scientific field test of the best new macro lighting product in recent memory - The Godox Macro Flash - 12 watts of flash power crammed into a tiny 5oz package. This was intended to be a really thorough field test but after covering everything in the first, studio-based review, I didn't have much to add. So this is just me going a-ramblin' and talking too much.
Two of the tested flashes were provided for the review by Pergear, the camera accessories giant. If you aren't familiar with the cool store and great prices you must check them out! This is for the ultimate FOUR-light setup at the US store www.amazon.com/dp/B09CSXFRJL?...
For a single flash, here is the US, use www.amazon.com/dp/B09CG868LK?...
and this is for the one, two, or four-light setup at the European store www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09CG868LK...
and this is for the one, two, or four-light kit in the Canadian store www.amazon.ca/dp/B09CG868LK?r... and this is for a single light
Oh yes, we can't forget their International Shop -www.pergear.com/collections/g...
Here is a link for the best trigger to use with these excellent lights, I have used all three triggers and the Xpro is the one I prefer amzn.to/3HFuvVY this is the Nikon flavor, all other major brands available. By the way, as an Amazon Affiliate I may receive a small payment for any qualified sales made using this link.
The BenQ light is still available (and very popular with everyone who has one) amzn.to/30TR7kQ in my humble opinion, the best desk lamp on the planet - this thing rocks!
SmallRig was very visible today and I really enjoyed the new lavaliere microphone @ and I would be stuck without their wonderful bendy arms, amzn.to/3nHatma their super clamps, amzn.to/3xdr9EZ , and the very best mounting device for the MF-12s, amzn.to/3r794au . The larger double clamp is expensive, but worth every penny amzn.to/3cm4nky
This is the best way to gather bendy arms, and they really do hold the flash (usually) amzn.to/3wZ88WB

Another fine video Allan! After watching your GODOX Part 1, I impulsively and immediately ordered a pair on your recommendation - FANTASTIC!
Works really well and so versatile. Tried a quick outdoor focus stack with Helicon Remote and processed in ZS. No complains at my end. Thanks again for your insightful and very knowledgeable videos - and the humour is pretty good too!

Allan, you've got the best sense of humor! "Disturbing, not deliverance disturbing." I laughed so hard. Thanks! May you be well and continue making such great educational and entertaining episodes. I've learned an amazing amount from you. Thank you.

Thank you thank you Allan! Finally I know where you find this bug. This year for some odd reason there weren't a lot of insects around here in Northern Illinois. They are probably moving out of the state like everybody else is, LOL. However we do have a lot of Goldenrod around here and next summer I will be looking for these.

Loved it! This sort of video just virtually hanging out while someone goes out shooting macro is rapidly becoming my favorite. And I love your humor as well. Maybe get some video stabilization, though? Got a touch of vertigo watching that. LOL

I used an SEM in the lab, find it hard to believe one could be accurate at that size, very excited to see the review

It is a potentially good idea, and I've never actually thought about using the neck protector as a makeshift sun-visor, if you will. But how, exactly, would I be able to aim the camera if it was behind my head? Didn't think it all the way through, huh, Neil?

@@AllanWallsPhotography Clearly not Allan, it's more complex than my initial assessment revealed. Isn't the scientific process wonderful?

What a coincidence, I was looking at the mf12 lights last night, I'm looking at speedlights as my last resort because my 3 led video lights still somehow don't allow me to shoot at the lowest iso and high shutter speed ( to the human eye it is blinding but microscope objectives eat light like it grows on trees)

Allan, have you ever considered how things look in UV? Don't many insects visual spectrums reach into the UV?

Would love a microscope! Hope you pick me to send one to. You are an excellent photographer….but the bug on the goldenrod video …was an exception…made me seasick! 🤷‍♀️😖

Thanks Karen and sorry about the nausea (I am well know for nauseating the females of our species), those phones are hard to keep steady. I have a gimbal - I should learn how to turn it on. One day.

What an entertaining and funny video, Allan! Amused I was watching it this morning. And I thanks for the warning … But … now is coming a little „but“ … But unfortunatly I can’t understand what you are warning of! ☹ Of course this is an embarrassing problem of myself. Because spoken English of native speakers sometimes is going too fast for me to understand everything correct I was watching minute 10:32 to 10:38 during the day at least 10 or 15 times and ask myself desperate what the hell could my friend Allan mean with „the flat look at that“??? I know, to explain a dense person (like me) a joke is terrible but would you give me a very little English lesson in this case? 😊

    • @AllanWallsPhotography
      @AllanWallsPhotography  Před 2 lety

I am so sorry I left you confused - there was no special meaning. I was warning everyone that this review would not have much reviewing in it, and as I was typing "warning" I remembered that achtung was one of the three German words that I know. And from there it was a short step for me to wonder how my German friend was doing. So all your anxiety about my meaning was wasted - I was just saying hi!

Alan, your twin brother gave himself away the moment he introduced the Apexel clip on phone lens as an “electron microscope.” Time to change the locks on your studio :-).
