  • The is a Lightroom and Photoshop discussion about using the new De-noise AI tool in Lightroom and how to improve your sharpening chops in Photoshop. We can also talk about of the other features that Adobe now offers. This discussion was inspired by a video that Mike Kanfer (friend of the channel) set me at the weekend. It was from f/64 Academy and was an excellent description of a Photoshop technique for a highly controllable alternative to using the clarity slider in Lightroom. The technique , which is one I have been using for a while, is similar to the unsharp mask or a reversed frequency separation, but it is also quick, easy and very versatile, allowing you to apply only as much sharp detail as you want and only where you want it. Alisdair has included a link to the video in the chat transcript (Thanks Alisdair!).
The McMaster Carr link to the bearings I was talking about it www.mcmaster.c.... from there you can explore all the other types
Thanks for the experiment ideas - I will work on each of them!

Don't forget to email me your LIVESTREAM suggestions to contact@allanwallsphotogrtaphy.com
Macro Talk is for anyone remotely interested in closeup and macro photography, and is brought to you by @Allan Walls Photography. The livestream is for all macro photographers, at every level from beginner to seasoned expert. As a dedicated and experienced macro photography teacher, Allan has made hundreds of videos and written as many articles on every aspect of closeup and macro photography and can answer most of your questions on cameras, lenses, accessories, focus stacking, insect preparation, editing and retouching, focus stacking software, or anything else you need to know - and he does it all with his trademark sense of humor. So if you want to learn some macro photography and have a few laughs at the same time, you have come to the right place.
I am occasionally asked about my own choice of gear, so...
When in the studio I use the Nikon D850 as my main camera - amzn.to/3zEznWK
    My primary video lens is a 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom - amzn.to/3zzaoUy
My main focus stacking body is a Nikon D7500 - amzn.to/371KoFe
    A Nikon D3400 is for emergencies - amzn.to/3xbwXgu
A Fujifilm XT-2, with a battery grip, is my main microscope camera but also does duty as a livestream back up camera - amzn.to/3l3Agnw
I use Adobe software for almost everything, because it is good and the support is fantastic. I am an outspoken fan of Zerene Stacker, and for anyone who thinks I must be a Zerene employee to speak of it in such glowing terms and to recommend it so unconditionally, I am not. It is just the only complete professional macro focus stacking software program on the market. It is in a class of its own.
That is just some of the stuff I use - if you have any questions about my macro gear, or my recording equipment, just ask.
All my audio, music and sound effects come from Epidemic Sound - I have been with them for about 3 years and they are pretty awesome - www.epidemicsound.com
Unless I state differently, all the photography you see on my channel, in my videos and on my website, was done by me. I tell you that so that you know I would never blame another photographer for my photographic mediocrity. But I love taking pictures, so I do.

Seems like there's the opportunity to have a specialized video codec that does stacking on the fly rather than dealing with individual images. If you could combine that with a very high frame rate and a camera that oscillates forward and backwards during shooting you could create stacked live video.

One thing to mention is that Lightroom is a very good editing software for RAW but not so much for TIF files. While you can do a lot of great things, stuff like Exposure, Highlight or Shadow Recovery and even Clarity adjustments aren't really ideal. You'll probably get better results by doing all theses adjustments before converting the RAW files to TIF for stacking.
