The Pokemon Trading Card Game has seen some enormous price swings over the past few months. Alternate Art Pokemon Cards and Booster Boxes from Sword and Shield have seen massive buyouts resulting in confusion all over the Pokemon Market. Prices skyrocketed through the majority of May as FOMO spread throughout the community. Pokemon Content Creators and Influencers spent a ton of time trying to understand what was going on in the world of Pokemon Cards.
Now, fast forward only 2 short months, and things have completely flipped. Many Alternate Art Pokemon Cards have retraced and seen substantial price crashes losing the majority of the value they gained. Will this continue, or will we see another spike? Let's talk about it!

This is healthy for the market. I'm sure these cards are going to stabilize at a higher baseline than they previous sat at.

my favourite alt art from S&S era is Tyranitar V from Battle Styles and nobody ever talk about it 💀 it’s more expensive than Mew & Celebi and still gets ignored

I think a lot a people's don't have a specific goals on coleccion because is focus just buying the most expensive cards to resale to a different price. That's why the prices going crazy.
My goal is to collect every SIR and IR. The arts are just too good!

Prices aren’t dropping due to interest loss. Prices are stabilizing after market hype. This happens in every collectible market, it’s completely normal.
As long as there are scalpers, resellers and people who hordes then Pokemon will always be a horrible market
But there won't be beause you can't scalp in a dying economy, which is what it just now turned into. Going to be a very rough 5 years ahead of us, but Pokemon will crash 90%.

Simply because people are leaving the hobby, the economy is trash, and booster packs and booster boxes are getting too expensive
Scarlet and violet sets are very affordable. If you’re just focusing on swsh sets rising then I can understand your statements. People will always leave and enter the hobby that’s a constant unless the card game absolutely dies.
I’m watching the Charizard v like a hawk. It’s so easy to fomo when things are at their high. I even saw a CZcamsr do the same thing with a top alt art psa 10. Now it’s crashing. Love the vid.
Summer slump. It happens every year
Yeah exactly...the vid is fear mongering for normal seasonal fluctuations in prices. Most business owners know about the summer slump as people travel and spend more on experiences and dining out
I feel like there's way too much supply for anything to be going up that isn't old, old product. Everything new gets anti-fomo'd, thankfully, by TPCI.
I pulled Dragonite V, Rayquaza Vmax, and Umbreon V within 8 evolving skies packs of each other. Then the fall began, lol.
Cards go up in price, fomo occurs, people open up packs, find more, price drops.
Would like to see the graphs with the y axis starting at 0€. Showing just a frame makes the variation seem much more impactful than it is in reality.
He shows the percent change. Not sure why you need the line squished down a bit as well.
Because it's supposed to be current. Why would I care that Lugia was 90$ if im buying now. OTHER than making predictions that information will only make people jump the gun. Price trends are important. But not as much as recent drops.

Ya the video is about "crashing" prices yet still more than I'd ever consider spending on a single card. Then people chime in and say that pokemon is dead because people are only willing to pay 850 instead of 1000 for a single card. Lol.
Last year when the Umbreon was like $500 I traded a lot of duplicates and cards I didn’t have the urge to keep in my collection that I had to get it. Those cards value added up to like $630 or so at the time. I asked myself after if I ripped myself off. It was a little crazy and the biggest trade or purchase in the TCG I’d done. Fast forward to now and the Umbreon is worth over $200 more than what I traded and those cards are down to like $540 in value. So I feel infinitely better about the trade lol

I feel like a lot of cards are underpriced tbh. What is the joy of pulling one full art per box if it's only worth a couple of dollars.
Same thing happens every year around april-may. Buy low around December sell high around may.
If this is not proof of the May/June market manipulation I don't know what is. And there were so many thay were saying this was just natural growth because the sets hit the 3 year mark lol Thanks for making these realitt videos Danny!

I absolutely love this. I bought all these cards awhile back when they were at their lows then they spiked and i went and sold them all for a massive profit and now the prices are coming back down so i can rebuy all my cards again and basically be at a net positive while still retaining my collection. It’s just so beautiful *chef’s kiss*
This is just what happens with all sets look back its just history repeating itself the hobby is fine and everything will level off then prices will go back up when more age gets on the alts
Thats like when my shining charizard went from 1500 down to 900 by the time collect a con in Dallas came around. Then 3 wks later it was back up to 1500
But these modern alt arts are going to crash 90% because there are pretty much infinite of them with the economy starting to crash and millions of people losing their jobs. Shining Charizard is a true investment piece in the hobby because in 2002, nobody was investing in Pokemon. In 2020-2023 50 million people were "investing" in Pokemon thinking the economy would go up forever. Unfortunate.
@@enthused7591 yeah true. I ended up selling it because I needed the money. Pulled it and a shining steelix back to back when I bought them in 02. Was stoked. But yeah all the current markets will tank over time. Which is good and bad. A lot of these cards I want but don't wanna pay those prices

I know Phan Clanners weren't left holding bags buying in during that very sudden and sus rise of S&S alts. Danny goes out of his way to educate us here and it's very much appreciated.
Lugia is explainable due to the guaranteed hit packs that were out. I witness it myself, got 30 packs and only a couple didnt have a hit. Probably due to it being a mix of the packs before they were restocked and the restocked ones.
Was about to happen as prizes were quite insane. Never have FOMO!!
I took 2k to card party and I actually came back with almost 500. I’m glad I had some big hitters from evo skies like both umbreons dragonite and leafeon vmax thanks to you Danny but I did finish all the other alt arts while there in the first 2 days.
Now is the time to buy if you have the money …. Late may early June the moonbreon was $1600 .. now you can get it for $1100 … same goes for the Giratina V … you can cop it for $690ish right now … I’m going to a card show tomorrow and hopefully picking up some great cards at a great price 😉

Just sold the Machamp V for $120 on TCGPlayer, which I priced at the last sold price. Big discrepancy between TCG market price and last sold price on that one for some reason

The people who are responsible for keeping $100 cards at $800 in the first place. Hold onto your seats, cards newer than 2014 are about to drop 90%.
Danny these are my favorite type of videos you should do something like this but for the EX era cards. From ruby and sapphire to power keepers. That market is pretty interesting and always changing
I have two Rayquaza Vmax that I pulled last year, planning to sell the other one but with the price drop I might just keep it. I love the art work so much. but still Having no luck pulling Umbreon.considering just buying the card, since the booster box of ES were like $700 cad and up.

This is when you load up for the low. Get those cards graded 10 and sell when the rise comes back in the middle of winter. Rinse and repeat
I bet in 2 years these cards will be half what they are now ppl dont understand how much is out there and you can still find all these packs in tins and collection boxes not to mention the amount of sealed product ppl have put away from sword and shield i personally think selling your alt arts and putting that money into gold stars, crystals, and 1st editions is the best move.

Im fine with the chase cards dropping. But that means the booster boxes need to drop also.

Gengar going from 400 to 300 still makes it an expensive one though. Same goes for the Umbreon, Lugia etc. So yeah there is an artificial increase which got corrected now.
But the chase is still there since the chance of pulling it doesnt increase at a sudden. Also it is summer time. People rather spend money on holiday, off load em now and might regret it coming september.
I'm still going to hold onto my psa 10 alt arts! They will go back up with time! I remember having gold star cards 7-8 years ago I sold now I wish I would have held onto them! That's why I won't let go of the cards I have now

Danny’s the chart market guru of pokemon. Wonder if we could translate any trading algorithms to pokemon charts and correlate
The single card market is too volatile, if investing is your thing then you are way better off investing in sealed products like Booster Boxes, you might have to wait 3 to 5 years before you start seeing reasonable gains, but it’s far less risky compared to cards.
Prices will go back up
Don’t get scared guys. It’s summer, where people sell to pay for vacation, bills etc etc. once winter season hits everyone is going to buy because of thanksgiving, Christmas etc. it’s nothing new. It happens every time. The difference is that these CZcamsrs make these videos and scare you and that’s when everyone sells thinking the market is going to drop for good🤦♂️. Watch is go up in a few months

Not worried at all. These cards are the real true amazing arts of pokemon in general. This is just going through a seasonality cycle. Should curve back up as the consolidation looks to be done for most of these. It was a 2 month drop. Seems like people are going to load up and turn it around. Even ES booster boxes, that $500 was a blip. No one can find it for that cheap. Was probably someone who just had to fire sale for a life expense.

Sell in May and go away. Summer months everything takes a hit. I do love watching all the youtube venders that have been making videos for months "Huge Deals" buying alt arts at 70% and pumping hard but now that they dropped a little wont even make offers. They drop a little and now all the sudden they are too "volatile and risky" to buy. If they shoot back up to towards $1000 again they will gladly pay you $650 and flip them at the same show to the person behind you. Just funny how that works even when they could now pay $300 for the same card they don't want to risk it but you should risk letting it go for $650 when it could be $1250 next week on the up.

These cards arent ever going to die out. If you want one of these cards you could open 20+ booster boxes ans not get one. So buying 1 at a fraction of the cost is a no brainer. I opened 24 boxes of TWM and didnt get 1 carmine. I got everything else x3. So no matter what to me buying that card for a few hundred in a 10 is worth it. Not everyone hurts durint a recession. Some actually make way more. Its like a seesaw.
Psa 10 in a gengar vmax is 600 thats a good chunk of change for a poke card thats 2 years old. The ungraded and 9s are alot more volatile.

You ever give any thought to the obsidian flames etb promo? specifically, the pokemon center promo is going to make a drastic run when that stellar crown set comes out with the Squirtle & bulbasaur illustration rare. I'm incredibly surprised it took this long. All the math guaranteed the market was going to crash. Pokemon, vehicles, home values, everything is mathematically guaranteed to crash harder than 2008 and I simply can't believe it held on this long. These $800 cards have like a $120 inherent market value in a normal economy. The $300 cards are worth closer to $40 raw.

I only have 1 alt art and that's because I pulled it from a booster. If I was looking to invest in cards it would not be in alt arts. You could loose a small fortune very quickly. It will be interested to see the prices of these in 3 or 4 years time

About a year ago I told myself I was going to get my hands on a psa 10 moonbreon for each of my kids when they were a bit cheaper for later in their lives, fast forward a year and I still have zero because they haven’t come down 🤣
