  • In this cake decorating tutorial I show you how I made this modern airbrush swipe cake decorated with pulled isomalt and edible silver leaf. This design may look complicated, but it is actually fairly simple to make with a little experience and a few tools. I can see this design in many different colors, it is totally up to you!!

    Awesome Mary👍 Beautiful color. Looked more on coral side on my phone. Airbrushing does indeed fly everywhere, even up the snoot🤣 I just use a good size packing box and tape out the lid straight out then place my lazy susan inside and spray, with the box lid taped and extended out it pretty much keeps all that over spray inside the box. And I have a box of many pretty colors inside☺️ Great job as always 👍

      I’m new to airbrushing. It sounds like I don’t necessarily need a spray booth with a fan but could benefit from just a large box with the side open? I want to avoid cleaning spray from all over the kitchen if I can!

  • @starlinerm.batistaarias8154

    Would you recommend using the airbrush on a cake covered with Swiss merengue buttercream? I'm thinking in using the airbrush technic first and as I feel confident move into the isomalt.

    This is Pam--I love everything you do and you are a very talented cake decorator. I so enjoy your videos and learn so much. I would like to finally purchase airbrush and wonder if you are happy with the one you have listed by U.S. cake supply? I have searched for some time and since this will be my first experience with an airbrush I wanted to make sure this would be a good one to try. Thank you for all your excellent videos and your relaxed style of teaching.

    • @sophisticakesbymary
      @sophisticakesbymary  Před 2 lety +1

      They are the same thing but you will have to brush on the kind you got I beleive. It can be very messy and you will need to clean your brush immediately after you use it if you want to keep it;)

    Mary, can you put the isomalt pieces in the fridge. And how long before hand can you make the isomalt pieces?

    • @sophisticakesbymary
      @sophisticakesbymary  Před 2 lety

      I would keep them in a cool dry place, not the fridge. They don't like humidity unfortunately. I would make them no longer then the day before. They can still get cloudy, but a quick once over with a creme brulee would help with that. The confectioners glaze does help too.

    ¿How do you make the isomalt not become opaque and sticky? Thanks for your answer

    • @sophisticakesbymary
      @sophisticakesbymary  Před 2 lety +1

      The granulated isomalt is your best bet for it not becoming opaque. I think getting it to the correct temp may also help you. Go with the directions on the package;) also, use distilled water instead of tap. Tap water has additives that can effect your final product.

    • @lynngriffiths6954

      @sophisticakesbymary it was the fondant that I covered the cake with. When I covered the cake it slightly started to crack, I tried gently smoothing out.

    • @sophisticakesbymary
      @sophisticakesbymary  Před rokem

      Gotcha! You could kneed in about 1Tbs shortening to add some more elasticity. I personally prefer marshmallow fondant over store bought for this reason. Was it store bought? It can work, but you really have to move quick with it.
