    I'm really saddened at this unfortunate downfall of Chung. He showed so much promise in this 3-month stretch but continued to get injured before and afterward. Every year he promises to be healthy, as it's his goal, but at the same time, he'll just withdraw from a handful of tournaments for some new injury. It really sucks after seeing what he was capable of and the lack of match confidence he has at the moment too.

    Every opponent Chung faced in AO 2018 has had atleast one remarkable run at the tournament:
    M Zverev: Qf 2017
    Medvedev: finalist, 2021
    A Zverev: SF, 2020
    Djokovic: former champ, won next year, 2020, and 2021. Chung is the last guy to have defeated him here
    Sandgren: 2-time QF, 2018, 2020
    Federer: Former champ, the champion in 2018.
    Some draw.

Just cause Chung plays like Novak and beat Novak doesn't mean anything. He beat a weak version of Novak ONCE. Many players have done that but very few can beat Novak back to back. BTW Novak won two grand slams this year not in his prime. Wheres Chung?

    Chung play's like a prime Lleyton Hewitt but a better version.

    • @GIN.356.A
      @GIN.356.A Před 5 lety +1

      breakaway2x he has better ground strokes than Hewitt, but his defense and speed is no where near Hewitt. A prime Hewitt is a wall, faster than nadal, let's not lose perspective here.

    • @breakaway2x
      @breakaway2x Před 5 lety

      Yes, it's easy to forget how good Hewitt was as a youngster. He had those really good couple years when he was 1 seed in the world and had beaten Federer at US Open (who was a 4-time champion at the time). But after those couple years and some injuries mounted, he was just a solid/competitive player who would always be in or around the top 10 but never quite win anymore (at least the slams). When Chung out Djokovic'ed Djokovic in the Australian, people started to make the comparisons since Nole was also his favorite player growing up. I don't think it's losing perspective to compare him or even suggest he is better than Hewitt if he's already been compared to Nole who is miles ahead better than Hewitt. But I do think it's way too early to say he'll have a more successful career than Hewitt. It's different times today....no disrespect to the past, but if Chung played back then, he'd have as much as success as Hewitt did...but today's tennis, players are stronger, faster, hit harder, better cardio (technology, nutrition, science, equipment, etc), so that's why I was saying he looks like a better version of Hewitt...but not sure if he can translate Hewitt's type of success to today's times....he hasn't won a title yet.

    • @GIN.356.A
      @GIN.356.A Před 5 lety +2

      breakaway2x Chung is a more well rounded player than Hewitt. He didn't have that incredible speed that made Hewitt a GS champion, but he has actual solid ground strokes unlike Hewitt's loopy pusher shots. Hewitt relied too much on his speed , he single handedly ended serve and volley because of his retrieving, but his shot making is subpar, so when he lost his incredible speed , he is not even a top 10 player. But in his prime, he is the ultimate counterpuncher, that's all I'm saying.

    • @breakaway2x
      @breakaway2x Před 5 lety

      Agreed. Hewitt was really good in his early years...one of the best returners and as you mentioned his speed. I liked his game.
