  • january 1st, 2020 edit: this video got a lot more attention than I though it would !! here are some things regarding the comments I've been getting:
    1) I made this video with the intention to make a part 2, so I didn't put all of her best/ most complicated riffs in it, ex surgeon/marrow/ whatever
    2) SOME OF THESE RIFFS ARE IMPROV!! i've leave timestamps of the improvised riffs if I can remember later, but.. I was taking that into consideration making this video, like 'this isn't the greatest thing ever, but it's incredibly good for improv" y'know??
    3) damn ma is it that serious
a compilation of st vincent/annie clark being a badass on guitar.

His technical ability is fairly unimpressive. But his use of pedals, tones and effects are super unorthodox. The way he fills space. Another example of this would be Adam Jones from TOOL. Very inventive and unique player, but his technicality isn't up to par with what would be considered virtuosity. His playing is somewhat repetitive. But very aggressive and emotive.

None of that is to say she’s bad or anything obviously and she’s again great on record but they’re probably filtering the best of her experimentation on record and when she improvises live it just sounds a bit rubbish to me and even on a technical level she’s not doing much impressive in any of these clips

Jackson Catlett yes EXACTLY she has her own way of playing and that’s good because she’s not just another formula but compared to guitar gods her method is unorthodox and I’m going to be honest I think she really does need to practice more she isn’t the best.

sam apple but like... nobody asked. Why can nobody compliment someone without someone having to storm in and invalidate their skills. She’s also not a show off. She makes music she likes, not music to show off to crowds about how talented she is.

sam apple i can guarantee she does not care about a CZcams commenters constructive criticism nor did she ask for it. I give constructive criticism to people that want constructive criticism and will actually care what I have to say. I don’t feel the need to voice my opinions when they’re useless.

Play for around 6 months and youll surpass her skill, but if its female guitarists you want as inspiration you should look into Nita Strauss, she is one of the best guitarists in the past decade and shes the guitarist for Alice cooper

The greatest emperor of Byzantium, Justinian, took for his wife the brilliant woman performer Theodora. It was scandalous at the time, the emperor marrying a commoner, and a dancer/performer, at that. She ruled alongside him as co-regent and shared as herald and bringer of the golden age of the empire. I guess what I’m saying is that someone should make St Vincent empress of the world

Well after reading the comments I'm afraid of saying anything and being a guy... But, I digress... I dig her guitar playing, it's unconventional, catchy and it's her own thing. It sometimes reminds me of Muse in the tone and overdrive sound (which I love). Two big thumbs up from me 👍👍
