Thanks to CompetitionPlus.com reader Monty Bogan, we are able to present what will be a multi-part series of home videos shot by him at IHRA events from 1993 until 1996, focusing on the old Modified Eliminator in an era when stick shift cars winded high and dumped the clutch.
You'll see a gaggle of high-winding Corvette Stingrays, Chevy II's and Camaro working the gearbox on both eighth and quarter mile runs.
You see facilities such as the old Shuffletown Dragway, Greer Dragway, Ohio Valley Raceway and legends Thunder Valley Dragway in Bristol, Tenn., and Darlington Dragway in Darlington, SC.
Who knows? You might catch some Quick Eight Pro Modified footage in there too.
Be sure to download the CompetitionPlus.com mobile app; its a free download at the Apple Store or Google Play.

Wow does this bring back memories... I especially love the guys who are running crashboxes as they power shift and never lift; bounce it up to 11,000 or so... And for those who complain about the video quality? 1. Just listen to it. Seriously; it's the best part. 2. You obviously never experienced it in person, but for those of us who did (which translates into: OLD), it brings a huge smile to our faces, so WE enjoy it and the memories it triggers.

As soon as I saw the title I knew it was Modified Eliminator! God bless you. Notice not all the cars were doing dry hops. It was dying out by then. When I bought my 440 Duster in 1989, the seller made me a sheet that said, "2nd gear burnout only with 1 to 2 dry hops." LOL I still haven't done one to this day.

right ...dry hops waste the hot sticky tire you just created with the burnout...same with doing the burnout past the water box. do the burnout get to the line and launch.

@@goldhunter9641 oh absolutely, not to say when you look inside an automatic Outlaw or NHRA Pro Mod, the technology isn't incredible, but when you have to drive it like an alcohol funny car.. Holding at the right revs, Feathering it into stage lights, dumping the clutch, have your hand on the break ready to pull on it in case you go into Shake all the while steering the car hitting your shift lights or shifting early if it's shaking and the brake didn't stop the shake - - and all that badass stuff :-). That is still right there when you can execute that consistently and keep your cool... And outrun automatic cars lol🤟🏻🙂
