I bought the Elemnt Bolt purely and simply because of the USB-C. I'm not throwing good money after bad with Garmin while they persist with using micro USB. I've burned through two Garmin devices in past 4-5 years where the micro USB port died (out of warranty). So the other features take a back seat. Get with the program Garmin! Early days, but love the Bolt.

My Bolt arrives tomorrow. The deciding factors were field colors change to show your performance zone for power and heart rate, the ability to zoom to show fewer/bigger data fields or more/smaller fields, and the diagonal dimension is small enough that the 1/4 turn mount still works when mounted between my aero bars (the 530 was too big).

I still use my old Garmin Edge 130. Unless you regularly need on-screen mapped navigation (the 130 uses a "bread-crumb trail'") the small size & low cost of this unit is a winner. I also like the fact that Garmin allows outside developers to make apps: I use one that gives windspeed & direction which is really useful. Sometimes tempted to "upgrade", but then I think : do I really need all this info on a screen in front of me all through a ride? If I get lost, I can pull out my phone & check Google maps. There's a danger that you can end up paying more attention to your cycling computer than to the landscape you are cycling through. Raise your eyes, children, raise your eyes to the glories of the world around you :)

Some issues I've had with the 530: it's a bit hard to press the lap and stop buttons due to their awkward position at the bottom of the unit. If you want to edit a ride in Strava that's already been transferred to the unit, the process for updating the route in the unit is a bit of a pain. Finally, when it gives directions or sharp bend warnings it always gives them at the same distance from the turn no matter how fast you're going, so it could either give you the warning way before you need to turn on a climb, hiding the screen that you were using, or it will give it a couple seconds before you have to turn on a descent, making it hard to react to the information. Other than that I like the unit and looking at this review I think I made the right choice. I love climb pro and Wahoo has nothing like that so that's pretty much a deal-breaker for me.

I've used the 530 and Elemnt Bolt2 for months.
No-one mentions it but I find the Bolt2's auto-pause, of late stopping and touchy restarts, gives a lower ave speed than my true ave moving speed. Strava always corrects this on load-up, but it would be an easy fix to allow users to set a minimum speed eg 8 kph.
The 530 is great but putting the 'enter' button on the top right hand side instead of bottom right, confuses many users.
Overall- I prefer the 530 because ave speed on screen is important to me.
I've told Wahoo about my auto-pause problem and all they said was "It's a GPS variation" This is not correct, the distance ridden on with the Garmin 530, Garmin 130 and Strava were the same as my Bolt2's. The moving time on the Bolt, is several minutes longer.
Leaving out auto-pause and moving time on the Bolt2, the Garmin 530 and Bolt2 are great units.

Bolt has done me proud. Battery is easily has stated at 15 hours in my experience. I don't use the app that often, nor some of the features, it does everything I need it too; I also received £50 off, so that was probably what swung it in the end for the original purchase.

I bought the Edge 530 and its been brilliant. Easily 15 hours battery, the hill pro is probably my favourite feature, the navigation both on and off road has been virtually faultless. I don't understand people's hate towards it. Yeah the app isn't great but that's about the only downside.

“If you are buying for navigation…” you will NOT be happy with the 530. I owned one for a 18 months and, leaving aside all the bugs in the firmware during that period, the re-routing on the 530 is worse than useless. It consists almost entirely of ‘Do a u-turn’. Garmin promised a firmware update to bring re-routing to the same level as the 1030 Plus but that never happened before I got rid of mine. If I was spending this amount on a bike computer it would be the Wahoo every time.

I use a wahoo Bolt V1, but I wouldn't dream of using it for general navigation. It can manage displaying a pre-planned route, since this is really what it was built for, training or racing and following a planned activity. It does have pretty good map data though. I bought the wahoo because it was a good price and my head knows I don't really use most of the features offered by premium GPS units.

@@quarkonium3795 trying to use a mobile phone as a cycle computer brings its own set of fresh problems. The limiting factor here was not the screen or the buttons, it was Garmin’s refusal to update the firmware with similar navigation to the 1080Plus, which has worked perfectly for me since I offloaded the 530.

What most people could really use is ‘Bike Play’ - a CarPlay / Android Bike for cycling.
Just need a head unit that uses the phone that you already bring in your pocket .
Google maps Navigation would crush both the others.

I agree with you. Would love to have that instead of another device to charge. Data usage might be an issue. My carrier seems to think unlimited data is 30GB a month, which is plenty but if I start using my phone as a live cycling computer it could be an issue.

I have a Bryton 750 and I'm returning it. Main reason is that its very difficult to download routes onto the Ryder. I've tried from RWGPS, Strava, and even a route I rode with the 750. No routes downloaded so I havent been able to evaluate nav. Also havent been able to configure D-Fly to work with my Di2 extra hood buttons.

IPX7 my arse. 530 leaks in the altimeter hole and the altimeter will never properly work again and Garmin is very shoddy and slow at getting a return resolved. All these bike computers should have radar built in like VARI. They should all have better screens with millions of colour options and customisation as in computer software packages. There should also be 3rd party software plugin apps for information mapping etc. Gee you'd think we're back in the 1990's not 2021.
