    Welcome to Peterson Family Farm. On this CZcams channel, we plan to show viewers what happens on a real life family farm in Kansas. From working with animals, to planting seeds, to harvesting grain, to putting up hay, to fixing equipment, you'll get to see what farming is like! Our farm is a 5th generation farm started in 1882 by our great great grandparents. We grow wheat, corn, soybeans, milo, sunflowers, and forages and we feed about 1,000 head of cattle. To learn more about it, watch our channel intro video here: • Welcome to Our New You...

    When changing plates for pumpkin planting, we have found an old pillowcase works great to collect the remaining seed. The fabric is flexible to slip under the unit, and you do not lose very many seeds. Thanks for sharing your farming ventures.

    We as a family live by White City and just wanted to say we love your videos!! Quality is outstanding. You must spend hours editing and just making your videos so great. Thanks for all you do for representing agriculture so well. Our family is just starting to put out some videos. We enjoy being together and are trying to put ranching, farming, and life lessons in a positive light. If you want a laugh or two check out one of videos of County line cowpokes and if you have any suggestions for us please tell us. Thanks for all you do and keep the music and videos coming.

    Just an "bar stool/ute uube" farm voyeur here....and have actually once ridden through middle KS by auto and have seen sunflowers in bloom...will never forget that...good on ya for doin' that for ag pr...we need more people to realize that their food they ingest begins it's journey in the corn/wheat/soybean/sunflower fields of flyover country...and are the end result of a river of (hope fully not too much blood) , sweat and tears (and stresses) and only by good blessed bounty of a high power above do we ultimately eat...grow...and prosper as a free and well fed nation. Thank you and your brothers and sister for what you do...as I like to eat!

    Happy birthday, Kendall and Laura! I hope and pray you've had a bit of rain in the last 2 weeks since you made your video here as it's now July 24th. But we haven't had any here in North Central Oregon for maybe a couple months here either, regrettably, and it's been very unseasonably and dangerously hot with 118, 115, 111, and 107 temps that have even killed some perennial bushes. I'll have to have them removed. All of your videos are extremely interesting and informational so don't change anything, love your format so ignore the naysayers. They are the ones who need to learn about central Kansas farming!💝😃

    Mr. Peterson, thanks for this video. Your explanation about farming at your farm is always clarifying to me. The american way of farming is much different than the Dutch way of farming so i realize now. I think it has to do with the size of the farms. Greetings to you from a Dutch carpenter.

Farmers are always busy but I think y’all are probably one of the busiest out there between planting, harvesting, live stock and all the other things that y’all do on the farm. You have my deepest respect and just keep doing what y’all do. If I am ever in your area if y’all wouldn’t mind I would love to see your farm and my sons to see it.

    It's the internet, so no matter what you do, someone always will tell you that you're doing it wrong. It's hard, but don't let them get you down. Even neighboring fields on your own farms can have drastically different requirements for what you plant when, and how much additives you put down with the plants and when, etc... Just keeping all that straight would be a full time job all by itself.

    Have you considered drainage tile on the wet area. I know you irrigate but tile would help the wet field even when it drys out by giving you better soil structure for the plants to grow We have been dry here in Ontario and the crops look better over the tile even when dry

    Thanks for another great video that was most interesting as usual. I find it interesting as you talk about the sunflowers. Never been around sunflowers except to look at them. So as you educate us on the behind the scenes operation on sunflowers I find it most interesting. Appreciate your time in taking us along. You shared the changing of the plates and how for each crop you change over the plates. Are the plates reasonable in price or very expensive??? I find it extremely interesting how you in Kansas double crop your farm. I am a central Iowa old farmer and we did corn and soybeans with Mabey some hay or oats. But never double cropping. So find it interesting how you did multiple different crops throughout your farm year. Really keeps using the soil to produce for you and in different ways and keeps production going throughout the farm year. Great!!!! Send a big Happy Birthday to Kendall and your sister. Enjoy your birthdays!!!!!! I am sorry that you get comments that are on the mean side of issues. I feel we can share information and both have different opinions and still learn from each other. Sorry you get comments that are not so nice. Appreciate your time in doing the videos so we can follow along. You all take care and be safe. May god watch over all of you!!!! Thanks again. The Iowa farm boy from years ago.

    • @brentkreinop489
      @brentkreinop489 Před 3 lety +2

      The seeds of various crops are different sizes, so a plate that is designed to place seeds one at a time for corn will drop multiple beans and may not pick up sunflower seeds at all. I'm not sure their planter does it this way but other planters also control the spacing between plants in the same row via similar plates as well, and that spacing also is different for each crop type, or at least can be different.
