This is the first composition video on YT I’ve seen that actually teaches composition and not perspective or colors 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 can you make a part 2 where you explain even deeper? I’d like to learn more about everything you mentioned!
can't agree more! loved this vid but i really need more coverage on some of the topics!!
yeah i'm really bad at all this macro stuff, and other artists my age just seem to grok it from intution
@@undeniablySomeGuy tru it may seems that way but I'm sure they just copy their favorite artist that's just the reality about how every artist learns
Watch Ian Roberts, he has a series called MASTERING COMPOSITION. It's really helpful even if you're not a landscape artist.
@@nixiedus him too, although I won't go to sinix just yet if you haven't mastered drawing forms coz ngl Sinix made me worse at constructive drawing lol.
Learned a lot from him in the painting aspect though
Thank you so much. Lately, I just felt so.. stuck. I didn't think of learning back from tutorials, but instead, I had just wallowed in my own misery because I wasn't 'Very talented for my age' anymore. Seeing artists who were younger than me draw so much better, it upsetted me deeply. With this video, I learned a lot more of what I felt was missing so much; my composition. I now understand that, as a self-taught artist, I was too naive when I was young to learn more about these things since I thought it was 'boring' and 'too complicated'. I feel like i can finally let go of my resentment of others, and to focus on improving my art. Again, thank you.
Thank you. And good luck on your art journey.
the most fun way to improve is trying to copy ur fav artists, even by tracing etc and learn to understand what they tried to do. Love doing it while an artblock or lack of ideas tho!
goodluck! ive felt like ive been stuck behind people who are younger but so much better, but i won't let that stop me from drawing nonetheless. i wish you a lot of luck in improving your art, and even when it gets rough, keep drawing!
I've been drawing semi-seriously since I was 17 (23 now) and, throughout the process, art has never felt very satisfying, for me, so I understand. However, I'd recommend looking at the art from around the time you started (if you didn't throw them away or delete them lel) and see how your art has changed since then. Small changes over time go unnoticed, but you'll likely see that you've definitely, definitely improved in tons of aspects! :3
I completely understand the desire to improve as quickly as possible. I'm an animation student, our school doesn't teach shxt, and I constantly feel like my career is at stake, so for the longest time I've had this anxiety forcing myself to improve, But, I'm alive and well and there are 3 things I want to tell you. 1. Everyone burns out at some point, there are just times a person can't do what they want to do, don't rush. 2. In my experience the best way to learn art is to learn a professional's drawing process. I'm an animation student, I love anime, I draw anime-styled characters, and I learnt that holy shxt, there are a crap ton of process when just drawing a single illustration and even some professionals take over 10 hrs to draw them, sketching, line art, color rough, re-drawing line art, different layer options and adjustment options, they use them all. 3. I know it seems a lot, but if you are dead set on your goal, you will achieve it one way or the other. You can do it. bless you

And all of this for free 😭 years ago it was such a pain as a self taught artist to find tutorials like these (at least for me, especially when I wasn't able to speak english), it's wonderful to see more tutorials, guides and videos pop out like these which are a better help than some art schools or classes could ever be.
What I love the most is that you show your own struggles as well along with your solutions, this helps a lot to understand and learn! Can't wait to try out this guide and pump up my own compositions! Thank you :)
Even then Im not learning anything for some reason with all this help
@@sael5084 I mean, it needs time and patience until it really sets in, sometimes it needs to rewatch the same vid and follow along the steps or what you see
Maybe you also learn better in different ways, i.e. following along a live lecture, having someone to correct your work and help you see where to improve and what's already a good fundamental.
Hope you find tutorials which help you achieve your goal :) it can be a lot trial and error with that
@@sleepingbathtub8477 thanks you're sweet :) the point about having experience artists correct my mistakes is a good one. Sadly none still did it despite uploading my flaws on CZcams. Been drawing for 4 years now and kind of embarrassed how I wasted my time not learning the right way. My brain can't keep information so I always rely on copying references which I hate . I want to create but can't
@@sael5084 I just found your comment and I want you to know that every art journey is different. That's what makes it so unique to everybody. There's no right or wrong -like a lot of people on the internet want you to think about-. Some learn faster, some slower. Some have a deeper understanding from the beginning, some need more practice. I know how painful it gets sometimes, especially when you're in a slump. Everyone's work seems so much better, which only brings you further down. It's really hard, but the next time something doesn't work out or you generally feel "bad" about it, try to analyze your feelings. Why didn't it end up how you imagined? Anatomy, colors, layout, vibe... etc. You can do this too with art you DO enjoy! Pick out the features you like and incorporate it into your own work :). Best of luck, your feelings are valid
@diediedice my goal is simply making comics, drawing is a second hobby after writing so the frustrating of sucking at art after 5 years of practice can't be undone. I can't draw what I want. All I can do is copy well but that's all. Without reference my drawings are beyond bad
usually whenever i watch an art tutorial on youtube, they just repeat information ive heard a thousand times. this video has genuinely taught me so much
this is so cool. i wonder if the original artists planned it so meticulously or did they follow their instinct and years of experience to achieve such beautiful compositions? you improved so much on the last example, it's truly amazing
Some artist do this on porpouse, but the more they use it, the more they do it Instinctively. Others, do the second one at first with observation
I think they followed their instinct and ended up analysing and planning it too. I unknowingly learned all the things the video talks about by seeing and analysing what looked wrong with my drawings and tried to keep that in mind the next time I drew. I didn't know composition was a thing but the process of learning was very similar and I ended up doing it just following my instincts. I did learn a bit about the why and stuff from the video though that I wouldn't have been able to describe why it looked better
a lot of them definitly did not just paint with their instinct. We know for sure that a lot of artists followed the guide lines on compositions. Those theories are really old and the further you go in art history the more you can see how many principles artists found over the years.
Most likely they sketched out many designs before putting all the work in to the final piece.
one of my favorite artists, chris hong, who has an youtube channel, talks about her process in some of her videos. It seems her decisions are very deliberate, based in years of studying. I do feel some do it naturally, though. I remember seeing interviews with Kim Jung Gi and I think he couldn't very well explain why he made his illustrations in the way he did. He just had a natural composition instict. may he rest in peace
Neat video, I feel like many artists (including myself) often prioritize making a pretty well drawn artwork which usually causes us to forget about composition and even storytelling. Would love to see you talking more in depth about such important aspects.
Getting a bit off topic here, but the lack of these two aspects (Composition and storytelling) are the reason why most if not all AI generations look so dull, sure the generation can be pretty but lifeless at the same time.
The AI looks good when paired with photography that utilizes good composition. There is a photographer who uses AI to add everything from characters to cloths and setting but he builds the images around a reference he has photographed and edits them to look more seamless. It's actually pretty beautiful.
Wow, that's a very informative video! I feel like youtube has been lacking some technical, in detail art tutorials that actually tell you how to tackle a particular subject. Thanks a lot and please keep creating more content! I will probably have to rewatch this to make sure I understand things fully
Thanks for supporting. Of course I will keep creating.
This is amazing! i can see the effort you've put into the video and the improvement between the two peices is actually insane, awesome work and thank you for posting!
Thank you for recommending, his videos are super helpful, I should subscribe earlier.
The AI voice gave me an uncanny feeling but this video was very helpful.
As a self taught artist who hasnt been able to practice due to school. It's nice to see this be in my recommendation, maybe once i finish this year, I'd be able to focus more and practice it again. This gave me enough motivation to remind myself why i study art even though i'm taking engineering. Thanks man, good luck on your journer in studying and to those who read this as well ❤.
You say you're self-taught, yet this is one of the best methods of teaching art I've seen on youtube; at least for me. There is a clear outline, it's no-nonsense, and you're giving so many fantastic examples while citing proof/more references for us to look into. It feels like I've found a gold mine, and a gr8 vid to turn back to when I'm feeling lost in my journey. I'm looking forward to learning more from you, fellow self-taught artist! Thank you for sharing your journey with us!!!
This is amazing! You really did your work, I was a self-taught artist for 8 years but have the luxury of majoring art in college now, and many of the things you mentioned have been taught to me. My professors always stress the importance of compositions and often make us work with the Gestalt Principles. This is really informative, I'm sure you've inspired many artists!!
Thank you so much!! I almost teared up because I finally found the reason why I felt lost when I draw and the reason why I hardy made any progress!
I love the way you explain, so simple yet so effective and straight to the point.
This is an amazing video!! Thank you so much!!
It's so so so refreshing to see a tutorial that gives really good advice and show improvement while not having the most perfect technique. It makes your point stand out even more
This is one of the best videos on composition I’ve ever seen. I’ve studied most of the individual techniques separately, but when I stare at my page I struggle to understand how they connect together. You created a blueprint on breaking down and combining the techniques. This is fantastic and I can finally see how the puzzle pieces fit together. Thank you.
OW MY GOD! I'm amazed!!!!! You basically took all the questions I was having and answered!
This is everything I've ever needed and more! This is exactly what I've been struggling with in my art for ages now, and you've explained it and taught it in such a digestible way! THANK YOU!! I'm so excited to watch your other videos !!
I had a similar problem where I learned perspective and value and then stagnated for years. I am now trying to catch up with composition and color, and your videos are very helpful. Thank you so much
ive been stuck for months with my artwork. Composition is also a skill, and it is to me the most confusing and difficult to grasp, because it's the most abstract of the other rules in art imo, everything else has sensible concrete patterns but composition is so broad. You literally simplified such a complicated topic that I've been trying to understand but never could. Thank you SO much. Ur actually a lifesaver
So glad this popped up on my feed! I also love Buchi Qoo's art. This is the first composition vid that hasn't just been rule of thirds and actually helped me understand shapes (Big Medium Small) a lot more!
Days, weeks, probably months, of your hard work condensed into one explanation of this video is so cool to me.
Keep up your work man, you did great!
Instant subscribe. THE most helpful composition video I've seen by far. Doesn't just talk about abstract topics like 'the rhythm' or 'the flow' that requires years of practice to grasp, but you break them down in ways that satisfy my need for rules and systems when drawing. explains 'flow' extremely well. thank you.
this video is wonderful and very insightful. one of my fave art videos so far.
thank you so much! i’ve always had trouble with composition but the tutorials on here haven’t been helpful to me because they’ll tell you how to see composition but not how to *use* it, but your video finally makes it make sense. i think i’m finally starting to understand it and actually feel excited about drawing again. thank you for showing us your process and wish you lots of joy in your journey!
omg this is so underrated, this video talk about so many useful topics
I think this video sparked an idea of what has been missing from my work lately. I've been feeling like what I've been doing is boring, not evolving, having no value, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Practical application will be a challenge, but I need to get away from just drawing banal characters in empty space and think hard about composition... glad I stumbled across this.
Thank you so much. This one is, hands down, my favorite video on the topic of composition. Not only was your explanation extremely informative and didactic, but your beautiful art helped greatly as examples.
Sorry for my bad English, and keep up the good work, you are really inspiring.
Dude this is brilliant! The amount of condensed information and introduction to concepts without it feeling saturated or overwhelming its just amazing for me. This could easily be the preview video for an in-depth course about illustration and composition and i would work my ass off to pay it no matter the price.
Keep up the good work my dude 🎉, I am a self-taught graphic artist and this video inspired me to trust my own learning path and desire to understand why some pieces work and function and not just believe in blind constant practice.
Thank you! This is unbelievably helpful. I am so grateful to hear of your struggles as you improve.
The way you offered many unique tips i've rarely heard of, it really interests me to the highest degree.
I had similar problems of having decent art, but it all ends up feeling boring or too stiff. It makes me excited to try out that main theme/sub theme exercise to see how fast i can improve my works!
Thank you so very much for sharing this to the world. It's awesome watching fellow artists improve themselves with so much passion!
DAMN the quality of this video is absolutely stunning. keep it up!
Wonderful!! I really needed something as synthetized and straightforward as this to get a grasp of how composition works, especially in Mucha's and some other art nouveau artists with a book reference.
You're doing pretty well in your own process! Thank you for sharing it, it's pretty encouraging :)
Your video is literally a pack of valuable information! Feels like I need to write down some of your keypoints and implement it right away.
What a great video. You have my subscribe
This is exactly what I'm facing rn. This video is phenomenon! I watched twice. First time it was mind blower, 2nd time seems understand better.I probably will come back and watch it 3rd , 4th etc. Sad there's no following videos on this topic. But I'm very grateful to having the chance to watch this video! 🤩
THIS IS MY EVERYTHING. SO SIMPLE EXPLAINING (AND SO WELL), ADORBLE TRYING AND ANALYZE, KEEP GOING ON AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!! ART SCHOOLS AND COURSES WOULD NEVER TEACH THIS MUCH SHORT AND LIKE THIS. THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN!!!!💙
Thank you for explaning all of these, these all make sense now, I had no idea there were so many things to learn from positions and stuff like that. Thank you so much
I think this is what has been lacking in my art that is making it so difficult for me to realize my ideas. I didn’t have words for it before but this basically covers that frustration I’ve been having. I know colors and how to draw something, but somehow my art always looks a bit messy even if I paint things how I want them to look and it’s because the composition didn’t feel cohesive to me.
THIS VIDEO IS SO ReAL AND I LOVEEE ITTT, ive just been watching art videos and this is the most informative so far oh my lord, thankyou you are amazing and you will be an amazing amazing artist
this is amazing!! i have to say that the introductory scenario with being unsure of what to do next and just copying pinterest photos genuinely hit close to home, its exactly what i am experiencing at the moment! i knew i should figure out how to arrange my work on the page someday, but I just don't know how to even get started on the theory about it, seeing your progress laid out here was really interesting! thank you, lets work hard together!
Finally, it’s been awhile since I feel like I learned something on CZcams that was super helpful. I might even pick up the book! Thank you!
This is great...Please make more! Your examples are better than in other composition videos.
I've never heard of any of these techniques. Thank you for showcasing, I'll be adding them to my work.
Absolute chad. Thank you so much for teaching us all this information for free. Much love and I wish you well on your art journey!
I’ve never felt more seen and understood thank you so much for this, I’m excited to create again
This is fantastic! Honestly this is a lot of work to explain in such a great way and paced so well to learn from. Please continue to make more even if some videos have overlap of topics - since each workpiece can have unique methods of approach, I would love to see more of your self critique, this video approaches self evaluation & analysis healthily. Thank you!
I think I've never watched such a dense, unique and straight to the point video about composition! This is AMAZING, thanks for sharing 💛
+1 sub
I got the best idea ever for a drawing with my original characters thanks to this. Appreciate you! Who would've guessed that putting your ideas into words would result in such an outburst of inspiration? I always understood composition, but your steps were super duper helpful! Wish you all the best in your art journey :)
Thank you for the video! It was very informative.
Fun fact: you explained what composition is in two seconds. When I was attending art school years ago no one could give me a clear answer to what composition is for 4 years...
I saw many art contents.. But very few teaches composition, one of the most important aspect of an illustration, storytelling and narrating through visual art. Such a masterpiece you have made! Thank you so much for this! 💙💙
thank you so much for this- really helped me get out of an art slump!! when u mentioned at the start “this is for those who r only able to copy what they see off pinterest and doesnt find art enjoyable” i KNEW this was the video for me. so thank you, it was really easy to follow along and now im inspired to art again ❤
this is so incredibly helpful i just wanted to say thank you! i also have been feeling some stagnation in my art but now i finally feel like i know where to go to improve!!
thank you for this! Genius! I still struggle with composition but can never pinpoint exactly where it went wrong... having to arrange simple shapes and lines and filling them out with your drawn elements was an excellent tip that I hope I can put into practice. thank you!
I've been feeling stuck with my art for a while, and thanks to your video now i know what i can work on! this is a great analysis of composition and i'll look more into it, thank you! c:
It is always such a joy finding amazing content like this that are truly helpful
Thank you so much for this really well made composition video and actually talking about composition! You breaded it down so easily even a toddler could understand it. I can’t thank you enough!!
new favorite art channel, thanks for the tips man
I have watched many videos on composition, I found yours awesome, its super helpful, practical and inspiring. Thanks a million, Foudo!
I really appreciate you making this video words literally cannot describe how thankful I am! Thank you so so so SO much 😊
You really nailed the analysis on how to break down complex compositions! This will be super helpful in building my portfolio. Thanks!
even as someone who's been drawing for six years, these kinds of videos are extremely helpful! your colors and understanding of shapes improved so much in just two drawings. keep going and never give up! it can get really frustrating, but take all the love you have for art and hold it close to your heart. thank you so much for such an informative video that made me want to draw! keep going!
Thank you for giving me a word to describe arranging things in a specific way. I realize this is why I arrange things the way I do. Simple example, but fixing a Google Side for class a certain way.
This is so helpful! Thank you! You've really done a great job simplify composition
Absolutely love this!!! It is relatable, easy to follow, and very informative. I have been in a funk. I always feel like I get stuck with composition, and I didn't know where to go next. I would give up. But this has given me to much inspiration! Thank you for posting this. You just gained a new sub! :)
Wow that's been weirdly accurate to the point, exactly what I learned in design school, music is soothing too, perfect video Foudo, love it.
What a good video: I like your straightforward, deadpan way of approaching subject matter. The intro, outlining your own struggles was a great entry point. The second half of the video, with your attempts at imitating your personal favourite paintings, was great. Please don't get the impression that we hate looking at crude drawings or doodles: this is the digital art community, so we're lenient on that kinda stuff.
its always so exciting to meet other artist on youtube. i loved the advice thanks
Tysm for this. Like you said I’ve also reached sort of a dead end in drawing, only drawing random photos off of Pinterest and kept struggling to learn these concepts as a somewhat academic person having it explained like this was just perfect ❤️
Honestly thank you so much! I did one illustration that I just can't seem to top for a while even though I am challenging myself and don't know what to work on anymore so this is a life saver! Thank you for putting this together for free on here, never saw anyone tackle composition like this!
Thank you for explaining logically about the artists' instincts and abstract concepts. You're such a great analyst and teacher!
This is a fantastic video on composition. I often can't get past the abstract understanding of composition and end up only using the basic rule of thirds. But with this, you've given us great explanations as well as visual examples of what you're teaching. The ideas generator is amazing too! I think this will help me break out of art block, thank you :)
Thank you for this video. It's straight to the point and lists what we need to learn so well.
A lot of valuable information in a short time!
And it's interesting to watch you attempting to apply those principles! Great video!
This is an amazing video! I'd really love to see more of these. You explain things really clearly and I didn't even know about this element of art? I can really see where my art has been lacking
oh my" these tips were super helpful!! thank you so so much for putting this together
This is so informative and well-thought of! I also love that you have included your learning journey on these art studies you made. So insightful! Thank you very much!💓
here in romanian art school we have a subject named: study of composition.
We learn something similar.
this is increadable! you brake down everything so well and its easy to comprehend!
This is the video I’ve been looking for!!! Thankyou so much 💗
I learned how important composition is when I took storyboarding class. Things like tangents and other various compositions errors never cross my mind before that. Now I always start my sketches with thumbnails and draw simple lines to find a good composition.
I still don't quite understand how to come up with a good composition but it's undeniable thats your drawing looks so pleasing to the eyes. Thx for making the vid ill be sure to watch it again
You are absolutely the best! I've learned exactly what I wanted THANK YOU SO MUCH ! PLEASE MAKE MORE OF THIS KIND OF VIDEO
Ughh I can’t thank you enough for making this video. I just didn’t know what step to take on getting better. I pretty much just screenshot Pinterest pictures and referenced it and lost my passion because of that. This has inspired me to get my sketchbook out again!
Woah, thank you for this video! It looks very insightful, and I'll definitely try to practice this.
I've been drawing for a very long time, and so I feel like I've learned a lot of things like perspective, color, lighting/shading, and composition simply because I drew so much I subconsciously learnt them.
But doing that can only get me so far. If I want to improve further, I should try breaking things down more like you showed in this video.
Thank you so much once again! I really look forward to practicing this when I get the time.
Your videos are awesome and your narration is as compelling and beautiful as your illustrations. Subbed and looking forward to whatever videos you make in the future! :)
best, most "to-the-point" art tutorial ive seen in a while. Thanks!
I agree with all the comments here. So informative, easy to understand, and oh, love the overall composition and presentation of ideas! (Not to mention your background music, it’s calming and pleasing on the ears). Thank you so much!
So much information in less than 10 minutes and so easy to understand! Thank you very much for this
Finally a video that is easy to understand and uses actual art from the artist to show how to apply the concept of composition. Instant subscribe!!😊😊❤❤❤❤
That's a pretty good vídeo, it summarizes well the topic and go straight to the point, now I know a little more and know what to searsh up to get better! Thank you :)
Thank you for this! I kept studying composition but I struggling with applying it to my works, and you explained everything super clearly too!
Glad to help you!
Check out the book “the painter’s secret geometry” it’s great to understand composition from old masters
Thank you so much for your amazing videos.
I learned so much and they are really entertaining to watch and listen to. Great work :D
Such a lovely and informative video, and the music in the background was such a nice touch
Thank you
We need more videos like this. CZcams is full of videos that explain the basics in every video. This vid goes straight to the point. I have learnt a lot.
I learned so much in just the first 3 minutes. hoping to incorporate these in the next drawings!! hats off bro 😱😱
thank you for this gem. hope to see more of your art !!
10 years into drawing, now that the flame is almost extinguished I suddenly felt like watching your video and learn. Couldn't understand half of it but my brain still tells me "yo that's the deal, that's the thing you should be practicing!!!"
youre a lifesaver genuinely thank you so much for this
Awesome fresh video!!! Thanks for getting into the theories! My character drawing is fine, but my composition is so underdeveloped. This is very helpful & concise, thanks!! ❤
