@ the excellent laborer I’m a glutton for punishment and currently doing 5/8” on everything in the house, it was a gut job, and I like the extra sound deadening features of the thicker drywall offers, as well as it is better at evening out some out of plumb 2x4 studs. I will say 1/2” is definitely lighter. Excellent video as always!

5/8” on everything is awesome! It definitely won’t hurt to do 5/8” everywhere. Just not standard. You definitely are going to need help on that job! Thanks a lot for watching Larry!

Fantastic to see this video especially after spending 30 years in drywall with my Dad's family business but started out doing plaster and ornamental cast work.
Thank you for explaining everything about the products and what is offered along with having all 12' sheets. We had access to 14' and 16' but could special order longer sheets. Only in specific areas for no butt joints. Thank you for all your videos and I enjoy all of them. 👍🏻
On the water test, we actually would take full sheets of drywall and lay them on plastic and then pour water on them and lay another sheet and so forth based on how many we would need for curved walls. It made for a nice way to fasten and when it dried out it was like it was brand new. The other way we used to do is using quarter inch drywall and laminating in certain areas as well. Loved your water test.

Sounds like you have some awesome experience David! I actually did not realize you could special order Drywall like that. Good to know! Sounds like your water test was extremely effective test. I appreciate you watching David!

@@TheExcellentLaborer I appreciate everything you do. You nailed it, no pun intended, much easier to let hangers hang and finishers finish. I have done a lot of work since in remodeling etc. Electric is also a passion and I loved the videos of all the full house wiring etc and most importantly how to check with codes etc. So many people don't understand the wire size, color which also helps inspectors. If it 20 amp, yellow and so on. Seeing so many jobs waiting for a fire because of wrong size wire, to big of breaker as well. I know people sometimes give inspectors a bad rap but they are there to keep you safe. Keep up the great job and have a great Merry Christmas and safe New Year.

    Dude you’re a BEAST!!!!!!!
I really appreciate all your technical and building tips. I thought I was the “REAL DEAL” here in South Fla. as a “Traveling Construction Superintendent” for a very large and lucrative GC corp.
I run jobs, and make things happen like you can’t imagine with the “sometimes “ inexperienced Subs I have to hire and high demands from our customer.
I’m an all around “hands-on” construction pro. Been in construction for over 45 plus years and have tackled just about all the jobs you can think of in this fast paced, never ending field.
However, an old dog still has room to learn new tricks regardless of what they say.
With this said, I am humble enough to admit that your videos and advice are on point 200% of the times. At your young age you seem to have centuries of experience under your belt my brother🤙🏼💪🏼
Keep up the amazing work you do and continue to help and guide us old dinasours at what we do best, “build and construct”.
God bless you and your family during these upcoming Holidays🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼.
All I ask of you, and I’m sure I’m not alone, is to “never stop” creating new videos for us (your fans!!!).
    Thanx again my brother🤜🏼🤛🏼

My Dad was a Master Finish Carpenter in the late 60's into the 1970's when the new housing market experienced one of its numerous crashes. Since both my parent worked, during the summer in the early to mid 70's, I went to work with my Dad. He worked for a gentleman that had been a realtor for years and also owned a construction company that built new homes and also did remodel jobs. My Dad was his site foreman. On occasion I'd see Dad get on a pair of those stilts to help the guy that did drywall out when his helper didn't show up for work. It was pretty cool to watch. He kept me busy picking up trash and sweeping for the first few summers I went with him to work. The third summer, he started teaching me how to stain baseboards and trim. That third summer I got into trouble at home with my Mom for being mouthy, so starting that next day on the house they were currently building, I got to spend a full month with the two stone masons he worked with. It was in a smaller town, so it was a smaller building company but the whole crew was always the same. The same stone masons, framers, sheetrockers, plumbers, electricians, painters, etc.
I feel bleessed that being able to go on his jobsites with my Dad was allowed back then.
It was when I was older Iearned how to hang and finish sheet rock, roof, side, frame, frame and pour concrete, etc. helping Dad remodel a house he and Mom had bought to move into 40 + years ago now. My Dad could float concrete with a 2x4 and make it look smooth as glass. I have yet to master that thought he taught me how. It requires a degree of patience I have never possessed. Though I think of him and my Mom every day, this video brought him to mind again today. I'm so proud to be the son my Dad raised even though I was his only daughter! 😉Thanks for breaking down and sharing where and why you use specific drywall when building homes!

I didn't know they even made 54" drywall. They don't deliver to my area so I have to get whatever will fit in the back of my truck (which is 8ft). Can the purple board be put on the ceiling above a shower and above direct-to-stud shower walls? I intend to seal edges, paint, and caulk. No tile.

Is it bad to use the purple board in bedrooms when living in the south? Like on an outside wall? Will it actually trap moisture? We have a 60 year old house and it seems like it wants to grow mold on anything at any chance so if I can help prevent mold it would be worth the extra money

I have about a 500 square foot walk out basement. No real water issues, but I’m thinking for the little price difference to use the purple board. I’m going to need about 30 sheets and so the cost difference is not too great. Any downsides using purple board everywhere?
