Oistrakh & Fournier with Philharmonia for my money. Mehta always too rushed like he couldn’t wait to get a cab to get home. It felt like there were no breaths, pauses; the music luxuriates but these technically polished excellent musicians gave this monumental masterpiece short shrift. Way too stingy. So 21st century!
Fair point, I would blame at least some of that on what seems to be lack of rehearsal time. The soloists played great but didn't seem comfortable with each other or the orchestra. I think in a dedicated recording project they would have much more room to really craft, instead of at a big old gala show!
Basically, PZ doesn't care so much about playing well in concerts anymore. There's very little inspiration left in him.

Kind o draggy first movement.
I play classical music but I have no respect for such a disgraceful musician. Zukerman must stop making culturally insensitive and ignorant remarks to young musicians who are Asian or Asian descendants.
I was not aware of this. Could you elaborate. If so, I am most saddened by this, too.
