  • Mark Noble has gone from sneaking into West Ham games as a kid to playing over 400 Premier League games for the club. He tells Peter Crouch, Tom Fordyce and Chris Stark what that journey has meant to him, why he's happy being a one-club player, how David Moyes gets the best out of him and who is Moyes' favourite player.

His testimonial, in the last season at Upton Park, Easter Monday, no underground trains running, loads of other transport limitations, the ground was jam packed, not an empty seat, everyone was on time.
That is a small measure of the respect we Hammers have for this man.
Our skipper. Nolan, a great captain, taught him well, and Nobes has taught Declan Rice well. I would love Deccers to stay for his whole playing career too.

40 years from now, Noble's name will still be the stuff of legend around West Ham. 40 years ago Spurs won the FA Cup. Graham Roberts was their midfielder during that game. He hopped around from club to club. I could be wrong. But i don't imagine Graham Roberts in a name on every Spurs fan's lips, 40 years on

I'm just old enough to have seen the end of Trevor Brooking's playing career and the first TV game I clearly remember is the 1980 FA Cup final. Mark Noble to me though is West Ham. Think back to the protests at the Burnley match, Noble tackled and was then clearly a split second away from lamping one of the protesters; any other player could not have survived that from the fans. With Noble however, well he is allowed to do that, his opinion and actions are just as valid as those of the protesters, because he is one of us.

Noble didn't get capped for England because at the time he was at his best, he was the England under 21 captain that lost 4-0 in the final of the 2009 u21 Euros. He always seemed to be tainted by association by Capello, who publicly said that the players in that squad weren't good enough for the seniors.

"I bet he is" - about Lingard being Moyes' favourite player - obviously a comment from an idiot who knows nothing about what West Ham are about. We love Lingard but we were fourth when he arrived and finished sixth. He is not the reason we were a good team this season and we didn't rely on him. He actually tailed off at the end of the season but was still an integral part of the team, so we still would like him to stay. Some people are just a bit thick and know nothing about football or what makes a team tick, but think they think they can tar West Ham with needing this and that to do anything. Weird though how every top team wants our players - Ince, Ferdinand, Tevez, Lampard, Carrick, Joe Cole etc, etc. Geezer is an idiot trying to make out we needed Lingard. He gave us a bit extra for a while but since then and before we have had so many heroes this season, including Fornals, Dawson, Ogbonna and many more. We are not a one man team and if anything, Lingard is the one not performing at the moment on the level of others like Coufal etc, etc. Do your research and know you facts before stating absolute rubbish.

Great player but, with respect, he was never a player with enough talent to be poached by a club that was big enough for him to leave his boyhood club. He maybe could have gone to a club like Everton but it's not worth it. If Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea had come in for him over the years, his loyalty to West Ham would really have been tested. It's easy to be loyal when you're not being tempted by an offer that's hard to refuse
