Crossfader saving to get this baby
Crossfader can you use a laptop with a CDJ?
This video is helpful, because I’m planning to buy the DDJ 800
Since this video, I was able to take the DDJ 800 to 3 events in Canada. I hooked it up to a mixer as well as on an actual PA system. The sound quality was amazing! For its size, it did the job and those who see it was impressed by it. If you are a DJ who wants a powerful yet portable controller as backup or primary for your events, the DDJ 800 is the one you should get. Begining DJs should upgrade to the 800 instead of the FLX6 for mobile gigs. After 3 years, I still enjoy playing it.
is it a good option to be able to play on cdj's in clubs?
@@tim7828 This, 400 and the 1000 happen to be pretty close to CDJs in the clubs. So the transition wouldn't be that inconvenient
Im upgrading from the flx 6 to this 800 i didnt now like the flx six cheaply made i wore it out ina year now my faders and volumes dont work
I got it for the same reason. The sound quality is so good. And it has thump.
I'm a little late coming to this controller (and trying to decide if they will update it early next year). But I have to say that this is probably one of the best reviews on it I've seen yet. Thank you for being so comprehensive in this review!
Really helpful overview of all the features in the DDJ800. I just got mine today and this was a great guide to get me started. I love my DDJ 800! I think this is the most affordable way to have an almost identical layout to a standard club setup at home for practice and working in Rekordbox. I also have two turntables hooked up to it, and I love that the faders and EQs work for the line/phono inputs as a standalone unit. I often just want to listen to records and it's nice to not have to connect my laptop.
Wow this was SO helpful!! As an amateur DJ looking for my first controller, the video, explanations, full walk-through with examples for each was so so helpful. Thank you 🙏🏽
Did u get this one as your first? If so, how was it?
Since this video, I upgraded my DDJ 400 to the DDJ 800. I still enjoy playing this controller. Even though I have not taken it out in gigs (because of Covid), I have used it on my online shows and streaming events. I haven't received anything negative and my DJ partner loves playing on it. I am looking forward to tale it on the road when things open up. Even though I will play on Pioneer club-standard CDJs and mixer, I will take as a backup. I recommend this controller over the FLX6
Would you recommend this as an upgrade to the numark mixtrack platinum fx? I'm just starting out but feel like I'm going to out grow the numark quickly.
@@atypical_blk_guy anything going from Numark to pioneer is an upgrade . Curious to know what you ended up getting
@@mysterydpt4663 I ended up getting a Rane One a couple of weeks ago. Almost every controller I was interested in was on backorder. I'm loving the Rane One though.
just picked one up and this is the best video I've seen at explaining everything and using it practically! thank you so much! 💕
So thorough and organized. Big ups to you for all the work you put into these videos to help our dj game. I’m definitely gunna take your online classes!!
DDJ 800 vs DDJ 1000, which is better for mobile gigs?
Your review videos are always the most comprehensive ones!
This controller has been amazing, it fits very well in between two turntables, jog wheels feel great!
Thanks for this in depth review of the DDJ 800 because I am a bit new to these types of equipment and I haven't decided either to purchase DDJ 400 or 800.
Get the 800!! I just upgraded and I love it you will have the thing for years so its really a long term purchase
And to all the people saying it’s over priced.... I got this this threw a well know music company for $699 0% interest if you want to finance. For the same price as the SR2 which was what I was going to get, I got this for the same price and I love it. It has way more ability than people think. And the displays are so handy. I would definitely recommend this controller and and like I said. I got it for 200 dollars less easily
awesome demonstration of the controller and great introduction to Rekordbox! thanks man!
Great video!!! I was wondering ....when I open Sample mode (on either player) and add a sample, will i have access to use the platter to scratch that same sample when queued (or presses) ? Or is the sample only manipulated by turning the volume on it up and down?
I liked the way you explained all features 👏👏
I love my ddj 800 got it for under 700$ "used" was a return that was never used. Awesome bit of kit.
Does the tension adjust enhance scratching and make scratch releases tighter when set to or closer to heavy?
Amazing how this channel immediately throws out a review.
Thanks guys!
They are a shop, aren’t them ? ;-)
We’re not a shop, we’re an online DJ school but always try to get reviews out pronto.
Oups, sorry, my bad.
Nice video!
It's very much a software dependent controller with no hardware effects and all that. So whereas it'll probably never work with Serato, it almost looks designed with Virtual DJ in mind too (near perfect feature set match), so I'm sure it'll become natively supported with a few other software brands. In other words: You won't necessarily be stuck with Rekordbox if you buy this. You probably just won't be able to use Serato
But yes - it should have been $699 like the DDJ-RR, which was the previous semi-pro 2 channel Rekordbox controller
Can anyone help?
Recently purchased the 800, and feeling my way around, was playing around with cue points - how do I reset the analysed cue points back to default that rekordbox added when it analysed a song?
Cheers in advance
Hi. I have 1 question, I have ddj 400 right now. As I take it for gigs I have to attach a external mixer, as alone it dont give that good output.. So if I buy ddj 800 do I have to attach external mixer????
Hi there. I’ve not long started and have been using a WeGo4 to practise but wanted to upgrade to something with more features. I’ve been looking at the DDJ-800 and the DDJ-SR2. What you recommend? Bearing in mind I have not used serato or rekordbox yet.
Is it thrue that these sound-FX"s are better sounding than on the DDJ-RR?and are the performance-pads as fast...as reactive like on the RX2?or not..?thanx
You guys mentioned the fader isn't as good for scratching as the one on the DDJ-1000. But I've seen people scratch on it and it seems pretty damn good. Much better than the DDJ-SX I have... any additional thoughts for scratching? Thanks guys!
Thanks for the review, clear explanation
Can I plug in a cdj or a keyboard/ turntables, etc in channel 1 for example and then playing music on deck 1 and the music from the cdj is still coming thru?
Can you use the jog wheel to cue up your track as well? Or is that done only from the cue button?
crossfader provides the most thorough reviews on Dj equipment. salute!
on another note for Pioneer: Cmon.. still using laptops? DEnon prime 4 has now stand alones are we are still making laptop dependent mixers? lets step it up Pioneer. im sure you've got some answer to DEnon aside from the DDJ RX2
I don't mind that the mic features isn't what you might've expected, the reason is because if you are using this in a club there is a very high chance that there are a mic plugged in to a mixer and if you are using the ddj 800 at maybe a house party or gathering with friends it does its job well enough imo.
Jamie my new pioneer ddj 1000srt doesn't have the bpm in the jog wheel all it says is no audio driver, what do I need to do
This was a great demo thanks
Is there a way to set the slicer on Rekordbox to the pads on the controller?!?
Yeah, i just wait for your review, very nice review, thanks Crossfader
Did u ever get the ddj800 working properly with dvs as it should with all the functions?.
Didnt even know u could just hold the in loop button to auto create a 4 bar loop. Can that be done with quantise off or on?
when should i upgrade from ddj flx4 to ddj 800? i feel like ive learnt everything there is on the flx4 but i can defenetly still improve my dj mechanincs. but when should i upgrade to a ddj 800? is there a standard? like 1 or 2 or 3 years with flx4 before upgrading?
hi mate one question Im new in the DJ world im a beginner
i would like to buy one of these , what do you recommend for a beginner the DDJ 800 OR XDJ RR thank you
I know both equipments are different and what is the best for my experience
thank you .
and great video
Should I go for Roland Tr8s or Ddj 800
I already have 400 but it's outputs are not ok to work at bar sound systems.
Can anyone tell me if the DDJ 800 can play 3 decks at the same time? I'm confused by the deck 1-3 and 2-4 switches when there's only two channels.
what is your recomendation... thsi one DDj-800 or ddj-SX2 ? thanks! great video!
I tested both units. Must say i like jog Wheel style of this ddj 800. Wish it had a bigger jogwheel though.
With the mechanical jogs there are moving parts which will get loosy after a while. And is noisy while scratching.
Wish Pioneer whould get rid of those mechanical jogs
Great review, thanks! I am a beginner, so purchased the DDJ-400 and feel I've now outgrown it. I'd like to see a comparison between the 800 and the 1000. I don't see any reason to get the 800 when the 1000 is only a few hundred more, but that comparison would help me decide. Thanks again!
Hey. Are the phono preamps as bad as they are on the 1000?
Has anyone figured a way to fully get DVS working fully? This would make or break getting a DDJ800 for me as I already have turntables - be nice to incorporate them in a controller set up!
Thank you for your help and learning about the controller 👌👏
Does the dvs work normally ? And does the color effects and pads work?
so in all honesty, would you buy this or save more for the DDJ-1000?
Would you recommend the ddj 800 for a beginner or is it to much to handle for the first dj controller. Been looking at the ddj flx6GT for beginner but the dj800 is about $200 more... thanks
Hey man great video. I recently just got my ddj 800 but no animations appear on my jog wheel and i cant seem to see how to fix that in the settings. If anyone knows i would appreciate it
Great review! I was considering upgrading to this controller when I heard it was announced but then found out some of the limitations you mentioned with it and that would mean another upgrade down the road. So, I'm leaning more towards just going for the DDJ-1000 as it will have the 4-channels and won't have the limitations that are present in the DDJ-800
Kevin Waters yeah it really sucks that you can’t use the mixer effects in stand alone without s laptop
hello can the controller also be connected to an ipad or Android tablet ?!
I recently bought this controller and my channel faders aren’t working. I’m sure this is something I’m doing wrong, any ideas anyone? Thanks!
Hi guys, I want to upgrade from my Ddj 400, should i buy Ddj RR or Ddj 800? Help!
This is a really good review. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
What about using the slicer mode? How do you get that set up?
Really helpful. Thank you!
Hi Crossfader, how do I use beat slicer on this controller?
Best demo video ever. Thank you.
Thanks for making this!
Thanks, just got mine (£570 new) and your vid is really useful. Cheers.
Glad it helped!
I have a question. This video is now 4 years old. Can I now use Serato DJ software with the Pioneer DDJ 800 ??
Thanks for the review.. when this dropped I was hella curious.. now I'm stoked being a ddj-rb owner.. looks like a natural progression to the 800.. instead of going to the holy grail of the 1000
Dude de 800 is way too high price imo just save up a little more and get the 1000
Does anybody know if you can use an RMX 500-1000 with this controller?🤔
I want to upgrade my Ddj 400, should i buy Ddj RR or Ddj 800?
I just ordered this. I'm so excited!
How is it?
@@DJ-Dorian It's awesome. I upgraded from the hercules inpulse 300 after learning the basics of being a DJ. I just uploaded a mix to my channel with the DDJ-800, check it out!
@@blank-ages that what I’m doing upgrading from a Hercules 300. It’s arriving next week
Definitely a nice upgrade since I own a DDJ-SB2
DJ KYLOWW DDJSR2 is a decent upgrade but i agree this is more professional I’m just not a fan of Rekordbox so I’ll have to pass on this.
Can u plug a USB into the decks or does it have to be a computer
then which is your better s4 mk3 or this?
This or Denon mc 7000? Maybe some comparison in the future? :)
I keep coming back and looking at this. Current Traktor user… really tempted to move over to rekordbox BUT the loop controls and way you can move around the track in 4/8/16 etc beat ‘chunks’ is something Traktor still beats any pioneer controller at hands down.
Same here, I'm a serato user but want a portable controller to replace my numark platinum fx. I could get the sr2 but I really like the 800 more.
@@atypical_blk_guyDid you end up getting the SR2? I’m upgrading from my SB3&400(I have bought entry level controllers) So I am fine with using RB or Serato. I’m torn between the 800 or the SR2 🥲 Am leaning more towards the SR2 since the loop section is much more easier to work with but the 800 screams I look more modern 🤦♂️
USB playback on this or the DDJ 400 would be a winner for Pioneer!
They needed to make one for serato.. just like the 1000. Im actually back to using my vestax vci 400.
Super helpful video!
do condenser mic work for the ddj-800?
Love everything about this controller apart from the jog wheel digital display. Such a shame Pioneer haven't given you the option to turn the display off.
Amazing controller.
What is the aux connectivity input for?!
Thanks for the review !!!!!!!!!
I’m thinking about buying the DDJ 800
A good used DDJ RR for upto 500€ vs DDJ 800?
Pioneer DDJ 800 or Traktor Kontrol S4 mk3?
I’m deciding to get the DDJ 800
Is there a controller that has 2 cd decks incorporated?
30:50 wat? lucky me I didn't just buy it as my "DVS host". Any news on DVS with DDJ 800?
This looks almost awesome... All controls well placed, Headphone Mix/Level on face panel (hate when those are on the front "tucked" away. Long throw Pitch Faders, nice looking jog wheels (the brushed metal wheels look stupid like something out of Fast and Furious and should be wearing a tom hardy shirt or some shit. Could care less about the performance pads though, would much rather prefer needle search strips on the top. Wish they would stop using red for all the buttons though, shit is like a warning sign and they all take too much priority when quickly scanning the controller in dim lighting. Lighter blue, or grey would be nicer.
I'm on the 400. Am really used to the beat loop function on the 2nd pad. Easy access. Now its a shift-pad function? its the MAIN thing I use for club DJing. For looping the end of tracks to give me plenty of mixing time. 32 beat loops. If I use the loop on and off buttons up top they stop flashing after 1 bar. This is SHIT. Far out, I am upgrading but am now thinking of non-pioneer options.
The DVS issue has now been fixed in a firmware update: www.pioneerdj.com/en-gb/news/2019/ddj-800-firmware-update-ver101/
How about a Serato update?
@@djkellyflavour5481 dont think DDJ-800 is Serato designed / supported as standard...but I could be wrong
Can you showcase the connections?
Hey Crossfader, love the video bro!
Question: Is the USB port also an input or just to connect to the computer?
I want to setup an iRig. So, from what I understand if the question is a no, I assume the signal flow would be:
Computer to Focusrite, Focusrite outputs to DDJ 800, DDJ 800 outputs to iRig, iRig outputs to the amp, then amp to speakers.
Yes, no?
Appreciate the help 🤙
The USB is just a computer connection port and needs to be directly connected. You'd need your path to be Computer to 800, 800 to iRig, iRig to Amp/Speakers. Alternatively you could connect the iRig to the RCA outputs of the 800 and the Amp/Speakers to the XLR's! Hope this helps!
@crossfader...does this have capture like the DDJ RX...and do you need to subscribe to rekordbox for version 6...
No need to subscribe for RB6, it unlocks with the controller. You can record your mix inside Rekordbox
maybe the only differentiator maybe the audio interface. But using a notebook for music you gernerally are already equiped with an high level audio interface.
This or the Xdj rr (standalone)? Pros and cons?
I’ve been using a DDJ WeGO 4 as a beginner for quite a while now and I feel that I’m ready to make the next step up. Would you recommend the DDJ 400 first or jump straight on to the DDJ 800?
DDJ 800 definitely
Super review thank you
When a track is near ending, does the jog wheel indicate that by flashing like cdj?
It definitely does
They don't have ddj 800 for pioneer huh? I have serato and I'm thinking about upgrading to ddj800.
did you say the ddj doesn't work with serato??
So if I buy this controller second-handed, will i also unlock Recordbox or would I still have to buy that seperately (i don't own it yet)?
Nah you don’t have to buy it separately mate
What a great MIXER !!!
I love your laptop skin. How did you made ??
