  • In this video I show you how to make a wooden model of a fishing weight on the lathe. Then you can use it to make a sand mold. Finally you can cast lead into the mold to get a metal duplicate of your design.
    Tools and materials I propose:
    Fire brick: amzn.to/2ZMgZLb
    Propane torch: amzn.to/2NGa3XP
    Casting sand: amzn.to/31TMZzx
    Table saw: amzn.to/2RBf0nT
    Lathe: amzn.to/2yq4bMI
    Wood turning tools set: amzn.to/2pH5K59
    Drill chuck: amzn.to/2XBVWb6
    Chuck kit: amzn.to/2NLQG55
    Drill press: amzn.to/2pJaAPo
    Lead shot balls: amzn.to/3j6IaZS
    Jeweller's saw: amzn.to/3j53MG9

This work is extraordinary in the sense that it shows in a single video the technique of manufacturing wooden models, sand molding processes, casting, and pouring, which are widely employed in metal foundries for parts of various types and sizes. However, for the artisanal production of fishing sinkers, there are other much simpler and more practical methods. I use a permanent mold (made of aluminum), which is much more practical and allows for a much higher production speed. Additionally, the finished piece is of better quality. However, its construction was done through professional machining processes.

I used these with the Team Catfish weight slides to make a czcams.com/users/postUgkxdmsDj7fQXe77DC0l7P7ua8B3PiESUubM Carolina rig and they were perfect for the ponds I fish. I have also used them to make 3 way rigs and these work perfectly. Haven't had any issues with them snagging in rocks or in weeds yet.

@Unco Bazz And that is where your perspective becomes the problem.
It's not about the individual. Or even the "us" group of humans.
It was very clear that large amounts of lead fishing weights were ending up in places where we don't want lead (read...pretty much anywhere).
These rules are good for everything and everyone, at the cost of a minor inconvenience to a tiny TINY percentage of people. That's a win.

@@Prophes0r Parts of what you say I agree with regarding all parties affected by human pollutants but please remember this, lead occurs naturally on seafloors in massive sulfides (SMS), which are associated with both active and inactive hydrothermal vents along oceanic ridges
Elevated Lead exposure in animals occurs mainly from ingestion e.g waterfowl eating lead-shot
Lead sinkers in a marine environment react readily with chlorine to form an innocuous compound PbCl2 an inert non soluble salt which is white in colour
Obviously there are issues with the accumulation of heavy metals like mercury in the food chain via filter feeding molluscs affecting humans like Minamata disease but I’m not sure how inert lead salts enter the food chain?

    • @Prophes0r
      @Prophes0r Před 2 lety

@@uncobazz3848 A significant increase was found in freshwater and associated wetlands.
If you allow it in one but not the other the problem becomes enforcement. Which is nearly impossible.
Eliminating the source is MUCH easier, and the hardships are nearly zero since other (cheap) sinkers are available. In my area, you can get cast-iron sinkers for less than the lead ones used to cost. They may rust, but considering how many sinkers get lost anyway, longevity isn't really that big an issue.
