    8:13 I love that BMW seatbelt hug. It's like your car saying "I got you buddy" when you take off. No other car gives you a hug quite like that. And I've never felt as confident on the road as I do in an X3.

    Excellent review, thanks! The is the first review that I have seen that comments about too many buttons..most reviewers complain about not enough. 😁 With regard to the row of presets, these can be radio stations but can also be set to shortcuts for commonly used and preferred functions. Once you are used to the buttons, and the iDrive controller, I can't think of what should be removed? Your review details drive, visibility and seating which is really thorough and welcome! Good job!

    This was a great review of the 2021 BMW X3. I'm about to pull the pin on my purchase but I'm going for the 2021 X3 30e hybrid. I agree with the assessment of Vernasca leather being an option at $1450.00 being pricey but the 30e has a little bit more umphh from the engine at 288hp and I like the 60mpg overall fuel efficiency. Thanks again!

      @robertlockett8680 Před 3 lety +2

      As a 2020 30e owner, I can tell you that you're going to love it. I've got a little over 2,000 miles on my car, and the overall fuel economy is more than 50 mpg. Yep, you only get 20-22 miles of all electric, but once that's gone, if you're in stop and go traffic and in Eco Pro mode, you'll be generating electric power every time you use the brakes. Plus the transition from electric to gas or gas to electric is super smooth.

    The Sports plus does shift quicker, but you do need to know how to step on the throttle. If you step on it all the way, it activates the throttle click (not sure about the name on bmw). thats more for accelerating from a stop. If you are trying to overtake a car, step on fully but not all the way and you get the acceleration difference. But I agree, it can get annoying when it keeps the gear lower, its just trying to access stronger gears quicker.

I was in the market for an X3 M4.0 but they didn't have the color I wanted. I'm glad I didn't get that gas guzzler now. It's my wife's daily driver and is fully optioned. Plus, we added a few aftermarket parts to make it more comfortable, mostly for me. We also removed those terrible run flats and purchased 19" wider aftermarket wheels and bigger performance summer tires. Nothing cheap about that. We kept the original wheels for our winter tires.

    Excellent review just having driven the same car Thursday night. My wife hit a deer and totaled her 17 Q5 so we thought we'd drive the BMW and Mercedes before we bought a new vehicle. Sticker on the BMW we drove was 49,165.00 with the real leather. Loved it and it was more of a drivers car. My review was similar to yours and enjoyed the car to our previous gen Audi...and so did she. Last night we then drove the 21 Audi q5....49,775.00 plus and minus across the board in comparison but felt the car was smoother, soaked up the bumps more and felt slightly more powerful....and we liked the fact that all wheel drive was standard. Today will be the Benz.... Of the 3 which do you feel is the over all better vehicle

  • @ronmccord5267
    @ronmccord5267 Před 3 lety +9

    Been doing lots of research. I am leaning X3 for following perhaps may be helpful. 1. The X3 in base form with standard 18 inch wheels looks sporty and conservative at same time, that appeals to me. 2. I do like the look of XC-60 but every version has a panoramic roof. Do not like this for Sun issues in S Florida and long term reliability as a purchase. Matter of fact I do not want a sunroof at all and I can get that on X3!. 3. You can still get the synthetic leather in base model again for durability and easy to clean long term ( just use water) 4. This is the only Lux Cuv that handles well, and engine and transmission sound well together with a nice ride on top. With the only option I want ( I wish I could get topview camera system as stand alone) I want the large nav screen package price around 47k. 2021 now has Android Auto as well! Will probably have to order one to get the stand alone tech package or skip it to get a better price on dealer standing inventory. Reliability is not terrible on the new X3 it has been around a while now, it is not a Range Rover. Should do as well as everything else short of a Lexus... Also it is made in America!

    • @toronado455
      @toronado455 Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah the base model X3 is pretty compelling. The quiet ride, big windows, non-perforated SensaTec (vinyl) upholstery is easy to clean, no sunroof, 18" rims, and not-terrible reliability are all compelling reasons to chose it. Also I don't like the Lexus steering wheels and upholstery. The Lexus steering wheels are either perforated leather or combo with wood, and seats are all perforated. Not easy to maintain.

    I currently own the 2021 X3 XDrive (this is my 12th BMW since 1970's) and find this report accurate except for a few points, The reviewer should have used in Sport mode the paddle shifters to achieve optimal power/acceleration or configured the Sport Individual mode. Quite a difference from using Comfort mode, actually quite fast and can configure the dash to display power/torque gauges. The BMW power, handling, acceleration feel is there, but a little investigation is necessary to customize and calibrate these options. In sport mode the engine is quiet and performs well. A difference I noted from earlier models is that optimal power is achieved at lower RPMs, keeping the engine quiet and powerful.

The MBUX infotainment system is much smoother, easier, and more advanced than even the latest idrive. And if you can find the autopilot/driver assistance package in your GLC, you get better autopilot w/ automatic lane change and auto resume from stop assuming it's been less than ~1 min. If you want something that is a little more sporty, you might like X3 more, but overall they're very close competitors.

    With all due respect, I disagree with the critic's view of "busy buttons." I love the interior design of the 2021 X3. Buttons may seem numerous at the beginning, but after a week of driving it, I appreciate the one-touch convenience these buttons offer. This is one of the reasons I chose X3 over Lexus 2021 ES 350, which has a minimalist interior. BTW I like the 2021 X3 interior design much more than the 2021 X5 (the next gen). The newer console (also found in 2021 330i) looks cheap and plain ugly to me

    • @Paxtiny
      @Paxtiny Před 2 lety

      Buttons any day over display icons. I get it, it looks spacy but it's very inconvenient and dangerous because you get distracted when trying to use them on displays. Plus the fingerprints which means you have to wipe them down often or the interior will look rancid in no time.
      Also wish the piano finish fad will die soon.

      The X3 is a better car than the RDX. You might be surprised to know that the Acura RDX has much worse reliability than the X3 according to Consumer Report's survey data. First year 2018 for the X3 was troublesome but they improved quality for 2019 and the X3 now has average reliability according to CR's survey which, along with very high marks on their road test, makes the X3 good enough to earn their recommendation. Honestly, the X3 is the only BMW SUV I'd even consider. The other ones are more problematic.
