So sorry again for the strong overlay on this batch of videos. It WILL be fixed on the batches next week. Just a couple more uploads left with this strong overlay...unfortunately didn't notice at the time of recording that the opacity was this strong. Really enjoyed this one, would love to learn a little more about them :)

Harsh vocals dude (Shiren) is actually also a guitarist, but he has issues with his wrists so in concerts he takes breaks in some songs and only does vocals like in here, the violinist takes is guitar parts.
I'd recommend Black Pentagram live for the next video, or as you mentioned Dream Theater, their cover of The Dance of Eternity live (that video also has a cover of Eruption by Van Halen)

The male vocalist also plays guitar in the band and composes most of their songs, the dude is a genius. He has some sort of degenerative nerve condition which makes it difficult for him to play guitar for long periods of time, you may see in some music videos or live performances that he plays with a strandberg on a stand. IIRC he said in an interview that he mainly plays strandberg guitars because they are lightweight and allow him to play for longer because of that. If I were to recommend a quintessential Unlucky Morpheus song it would be Cadaver / Revadac. Its a genius song that I think you, being a musician, will really appreciate.
Search "[Official Video] Unlucky Morpheus - 「CADAVER」「REVADAC」+sheet music" for the best version which includes the sheet music which will help illustrate just how awesome of a track it is.

His condition is called tenosynovitis. It's not terribly serious, it can get better with rest, which is why Jill took over some of his guitar parts on violin as in this song. Originally it was the two guitarists. The guitar stand has made it much easier for him to play, and you'll see that in most of their newer videos he is playing again. The tenosynovitis is what caused him to quit Yousei Teikoku, he used to play for both them and Unlucky Morpheus at rhe same time.

@@robertlawrence2609 Thats good to hear, I hadn't looked into his condition in a while so I wasn't too sure how it was panning out for him. Him going all in on UM has probably helped him manage his condition and get ample rest.

    A few points.
Fuki (singer) is untrained, it's all natural. She said she just copied the way her mother sang at home when she was young, and has always sang like that. She is also the co-founder.
Normally it is 2 guitars and a violin, the growler, Shiren, is the lead guitarist and co-founder. But he suffers with tendonitis of the wrist, so take it a bit easier these days, he is getting better slowly. This song and another 1 he tends to take a break so Jill (violin) steps up. Mind you Jill does play a lot of the melodys in a lot of the songs.
Jill can play anything on the violin, that you could play on a guitar. So the do tend to use her as a 3rd guitarist, but with less strings :) 【Live Cover】Eruption(Van Halen) ~ The Dance of Eternity(Dream Theater) czcams.com/video/XC2A1hbuLmI/video.html
They call themselves a melodic technical speed metal band, and calling yourself technical in Japan is a big claim. The thing is they they just do not do metal, they have done something akin to 20's swing, jazz, acid jazz, J-rock (all with a metal edge) and melodic death metal. The thing is they do not have a style, they have a sound. All the official video's are more of the metal side, They don't put the others up, but they are on their DVD's or in the members section of youtube.
If you want a studio recording then it has to be [Official Video] Unlucky Morpheus - 「CADAVER」「REVADAC」+sheet music czcams.com/video/_yrNRhIreyE/video.html

Actually, you can't go wrong with Unlucky Morpheus. Phantom Blood is from their most recent Blu-Ray, so it's a good one to see their current state although they didn't have any member changes in recent years, so the line up will be the same for all live shows you can currently find on CZcams) czcams.com/video/YujGZll4Pu4/video.html still, this is their biggest stage yet and it's fun to seem them use the space.
Another recommendation would be Doll$boxx, a side project from Fuki (UM's singer) and Gacharic Spin (another amazing all female band from Japan) czcams.com/video/mu2z4Uf9Tgc/video.html

Nice reaction, despite the opacity screen. It's the music that counts! While at the end of the video Shiren, the guitarist/vocalist makes a good job rooting on the audience, the rest of the band prepares to perform an acoustic tune; so your observation was correct. As you already receiveved many suggestions, I'll only add some info-bits:
All the members of Unlucky Morpheus (or "Ankimo", as the band is called usually by the band members who insist that this is the original name) are top-notch musicians, who are highly respected for their work in various other projects: Shiren was a member of the legendary first line-up of Babymetal's "Kami Band" and long-time guitarist of Yosei Teikoku, as was mentioned in an earlier comment, the "Fairy Empire", which is another famous - and quite awesome - rock/metal band(it began in 1997 as Darkwave, neoclassic band; and changed the style when Sjiren joined about ten years later. Drummer Fumiya was playing drums for Galneryus, a highly appreciated power/symphonic/progressive metal band, for several years, in addition to his work with Unlucky Morpheus, Jill, the violinist, played the violin since the age of three years; she attended the prestgious Faculty of Music of Tokyo University where she received high accolades, and won several awards; she began with an international career in a small classical ensemble (a string quartet iirc) but finally switched to a new genre, metal! Last but not least Fuki, one of the hardest working musicians in the scene with numerous recordings, very popular and highly revered for her unique and wonderful voice, she also works as vocalist in "Doll$Box", a joint project with the band "Gacharic Spin" which I recommended some days ago in an earlier comment ...
And a few words on the cover of Dream Theater's "Dance of Eternity" - that song is played by "Quadratum from Unlucky Morpheus", a spin-off without vocals and doing all kinds of cover-songs while focussing on Jill, the violinist; there#s a live recording, beginning with EvHalens "Eruption" solo and then "Danceof eteernity" - don't miss it!
The same applies to the great band Dir en Grey, with the one and only Kyo, who is a really stunning vocal artist (with a great band .. ).

This Unlucky Morpheus drummer was also a drummer of a Japanese heavy metal band called "Galneryus".
Galneryus is also an amazing metal band.
    このアンラッキー・モルフェウスのドラマーは、「ガルネリウス」と言う日本のヘビーメタルバンドのドラマーでもありました。
    ガルネリウスも驚異的メタルバンドです。

Every song of theirs are worth checking out. I would like to the most artistic one yet that "Cadaver Revadac" where the latter as the spelling suggest is the former song played backwards. They even have the music video along with the sheet music on for that

Congrats on finding Unlucky Morpheus-one of the best, most creative bands in the world today. You just jumped in the deep end, with my favorite of their live clips. They remain independent by choice, in order to retain complete artistic freedom. They started off in 2008, focused on making soundtracks to video games and anime. They went through a lot of different stylistic phases, but the big transformation was when they brought Jill (violin) on board. Like many Japanese bands, they sound incredibly clean and tight live.
Meanwhile, amid the (justified) excitement over the Japanese all-female metal bands, we forget there are plenty of guys who throw down. Shiren, founder and one of the guitarists, also does the growls. Fumiya (Drums) is, as you saw, insane and inexhaustible-one of the best rock drummers in the world. Jinya (G) and Ogawa (B) are top-notch as well. Basically, this band is a technical monster. Fumiya and Ogawa also have interesting, “beast” personae which contrast with the “beauty” of Fuki and Jill. That contrast is a deliberate trope, similar to the “Beauty and the Beast” imagery of many European symphonic metal bands.
Fuki (lead singer) is a legend in Japan, and one of the busiest artists anywhere. She is also lead singer for UM, Doll$boxx, Lightbringer and her own ongoing project, Fuki Commune. Her style is very much out of the Japanese classical tradition, with the oversold vibrato and intense high notes. She collaborates with a lot of the top musical talents in Japan. Jill (violin) also has a busy dance card, including collaborations with Fuki and others outside of UM.
Jill is actually my favorite member of Unlucky Morpheus. I consider her the best rock/jazz/metal violinist in the world today, and probably the best since Jean-Luc Ponty. After Shiren (founder, original lead guitarist) started suffering from an injury that limits his playing, they rewrote a lot of his solos for Jill. Hard to come up with another violinist who could pull that off. Here are links to instrumentals featuring her in UM’s instrumental project Quadratum:

I can't believed its your first time to Unlucky Morpheus (Ankimo). Shiren the screamer is also a shredder, also one of the earliest Kami band member of Babymetal.. Oh Fuyuki on the other hand is my #1 favorite vibrato singer from Japan and drummer Fumiya san ex-Galneryus and Undead Corporation is a God tier 🥁

Thanks for reacting to UM dude, the band identifies as melodic speed metal, if you are interested in a song video of them I would recommend cadaver revadac, they play revadac note for note as opposed to cadaver minus the lyrics and drum line, I would like also that you react if possible to Dir En Grey [Karasu eng sub live hd] as well as the vocalist of UM the vocalist of this band is technically one of the best in metal history, his vocal range is insane if you want to hear something more neoclassical I would recommend the powermetal band Galneryus [the force of courage live] the guitarist called Syu is the best in Japan by far and I also hope that the best all-female powermetal band in the world enters Lovebites, I would recommend the song [when destinies align live tokyo 2021] this one has one of the best guitar solo duo ever, greetings
