I think that's the most creative way I've seen of doing the filter spring. Easy and no mess of extra grease to hold it in place. Nice one!

      Thank you, I appreciate it

K&N filters for dirt bikes and motorcycles are usually made by Hiflo if you want to save some money. They’re 1/3 the price and the exact same.

I like the zip tie method. Very creative.

    Very clever zip tie trick.
    I have a 22 klx300sm 12k miles.
I took a pair of pylers.
And slightly expanded one end of that spring for a friction fit.
Works great so I thought I'd share.
    Be blessed

How's yours holding up after 12k miles?

Have had no problems at all.
Just now putting my third rear tire on it.
      Love the bike.
Very fun on back country roads.

I opened up the diameter of the oil filter spring with needle nose pliers on the end that goes in the engine til it stays in the notches. And by the way I have lived in Arizona for years and was thinking that I kind of miss the sounds of the insects from when I lived in the midwest. Weird, I know.

1.2 quarts when you remove the oil filter per the manual. 1.1 quarts if you don't change the filter.

Dab a little bit of Vaseline and the spring will hold sideways but you gotta be quick with it. Once you get it you can bounce the filter with your finger to make sure it’s got tension on it in the middle there. That’s what works for me.

  • @goaheadmakeourdayscooterpe9644

If you use a rag with brake cleaner to clean off where the spring rest inside just the smallest dab of grease will hold it in place easier to have the filter on the cover and just push it straight in. Why they never placed a mark on cover I'll never know because I'm sure if it's placed 180 degrees off it would be catastrophic.

I laid the bike on its side to hold the spring in place.

I own a 23 klx 300 and I lay the bike over completely on the left side to install the spring from oil filter.

Aye mate, dab the spring in grease or vaseline

  • @allans7281
    @allans7281 Před 2 měsíci +1

Just put a dab of grease on the bottom of the spring and you’ll be fine
What’s wrong with me I just love watching oil changes it’s like having a brand new bike
    Nothing like fresh fluids

This is what I do too. Tiny bit of grease to stick the spring to the filter.

  • @summitrmk

I just lay the bike on its side and Place the spring in there.

    • @MCPHILL

Oil should be changed when moto is in level not on kick stand. It was not drained all oil and if oil on kick stand is more than bottom of glass it is too much and it can make unwanted pressure in engine.

  • @GarotMichaelConklin

This is great, but I mean... just lay it over on its side for 30 seconds, and you are all set...

Any reason you used that particular oil? Semi synthetic?
