Garrus and Tali easily tie for No. 1. They are the only two squadmates that stay truely loyal to Shepard until the end. Plus Garrus is a fucking legend and Tali is adorable.
You forgot about Liara didn't you. She saves Shepard and pretty much the galaxy by recovering Shepard's body and giving it to Cerberus , not only that but she does everything in her power to help Shepard while they're relieved from duty on Earth by researching the archives and finding the weapon that would save the galaxy. Maybe she didn't come along in mass effect 2 but it's fair as she's in the position of (spoiler) looking for the shadow broker as main priority , or being the shadow broker herself , the only reason she could come in mass effect 3 was because of the loss of most of her resources , or she would've kept helping Shepard from her base. So after all , I'm pretty sure Liara is the most loyal. Nice to see that she did 2 major actions to save the galaxy that if not done would've left the galaxy to be harvested

Didn't wanna look under the Mask, that would have probably ruined my picture of her. 4. Grunt - Hell, it's Grunt 5. Mordin - I cried for the first time in two years when I had to see him dying! 6. Thane - The Assassin with a heart... hardly an Assassin actually 7. Wrex - Jumping on top of a Kodiak to save Shepard? Well I think he deserves it! 8. Javik - One of my main Squadmates in 3. Always wanted to see what he had to say about the situation. (Also that Blasto movie scene was hilarious) 9. Legion - Had me close to tears in 3 10. Samara - Got me through the Swarms in ME2.... she deserves a spot here! MY list, arguing is kinda pointless.

Peter Parker Javik Gives you a fully fleshed out crew-member who will aid you during missions. Leviathan: Gives you a small set of 5 (i think) missions and a war asset.

RandamPanch I actually did like Jack. She and Miranda are almost the same person, though lol. They were both mistreated and experimented on as children to increase their biotic potential, both managed to get themselves out of that situation only to be used and abused by their "rescuer", both hold people at a distance, both believe that friendship and love are basically a myth created by people who want to use you, both use their looks and the suggestion of sex to get what they want, both are abrasive to others, and both of them had Shepard as the first person they could trust and rely on to be a real friend that wouldn't use them. The main difference is that Miranda didn't realize the manipulation of her "rescuer" and acts cold and frigid to keep people at a distance while Jack knows she was screwed over by her "rescuers" and goes with anger and hyper sexuality to do the same thing. Both of them really grow and soften and I really like the people they become.
i always romanced Liara in all 3 (you can in me2 in the dlc) with jack as the one for me2 mainly for some reason you can romance 2 if Liara was the romance in the first one you will still have sex with jack even if you rekindle you relationship with Liara soo yeah :) and Garrus as my brother i always had him in my party Garrus Liara and jack are my fav party members joker is funny as hell so he is up there but you cant have him in your party
Maia- San Vanilla means the base game - no mods or DLC. As it comes (it's a general term, not just for Mass Effect). Citadel is DLC for Mass Effect 3. I've heard it's good, but I'm not much of a fan of dlc in general (or of EA for that matter).
Garrus is my choice as well. - he is a badass - he looks and sounds awesome - he has great dialogue/moments - he is the perfect partner to Shepard (friend or romance) - when you were saying your goodbyes to everyone at the end of ME3 his was the most heart wrenching.

This dude is glorious.) 7. Mordin Solus (I'll miss this crazy bastard and his funny song. Went out like a bloody hero, saving a whole race.) 8. Legion (That sacrifice scene killed me, I'll never forget you, and yes, you do have a soul.) 9. His character is too complex to just turn bisexual in ME3. They could do that with Kaidan cause he's boring as shit, but Garrus is already awkward while romancing a female human. Now imagine how he would react if his human male commander hit on him.

If you get to know her in the first game she is a racist, she has super conservative values. While trying to redeem her families name. She is okay, but Kaiden is just better also more valuable of a person. He is higher ranking and is a functioning L2 biotic. He is like shepards bro. While Ash... can just be like ahhh my life sucks....

Joshua Rogers Zaed's blind revenge was too costly, but if you get enough paragon/renegade points you can talk some since into him, but that after the fact he just blow up a bunch of miners, think it was Bio-ware's tongue in cheek attempt to make him a little more likable.
Mass Effect is really a special game, in every way. Characters themselves are great, but when they interact with each other - their dialogs are priceless !

Even before clicking on the video, I knew Garrus would be #1. Watching my husband play Mass Effect, Garrus quickly became my favorite character in the game. Tali and Jack a close 2nd and 3rd.

Newell Joseph Yeah. You aren't lying. I always played as an Infiltrator in all my Mass Effect playthroughs. So I would usually have Sniper, Sniper, Tank Or Biotic but usually Tank after I got the Bonus power. In 3 I didn't even like the bonus power and I hated James(didn't like the character and I grew up in the 90's with an older sister who loved the AWFUL ACTOR Freddie Prince Jr. which is the voice for James Vega that added to my already considerable hate. Plus, again no Krogan). Not saying ME3 was a bad game. It wasn't. It was a great game up until the ending just for the most part hated the companions other then Garrus and Liara. That also limited my replay ability. I use to switch up in Mass Effect to keep it interesting but that wasn't an option in 3.
NinjaLo, I know how you feel. I LOVED ME3. Played it multiple times. But I loved the squad in ME2. It was a badass squad. So I was disappointed that (with the exception of Garrus & Tali) none returned to the Normandy in ME3. I didn't hate James Vega, but he's a lame replacement for a tank in the team. Also, I romanced Jack from ME2 and still carried it thru ME3, but I hated the fact that the romance scenes were few and far between and she wasn't part of my team. *sigh* Oh well.
Robby Bobby Yeah, you're right about the squad in ME2. Really badass!! Vega isn't that bad. I like him a lot better than Kaiden. I have romanced Jack and Miranda and it is unfulfilling in ME3 when trying to continue those relationships because they can't join you. You can see Miranda and interact with her a little more than Jack, but it still sucks they can't be with you.

Kaidan not even an honourable mention? OK humans are not going to be the most popular obviously but I honestly don't get why people take such a disliking to him- hes very genuine, nice and has an interesting backstory, although his character progression isn't the best (alot of the characters on this list are the same) he's one of the best teammates to have around and is highly overlooked or disliked because of that scene in ME2 where he doesn't trust Cerberus (seriously, its not like he doesn't have reason to be suspicious- he IS right and he doesn't "leave you to die" like alot of people claim, hes very grateful and wants to be with you but knows you aren't doing the right thing so he sticks with his moral compass) In ME3 hes one of the best romances for male or female shep and even if you don't hes still a good friend to Shepard who has been with them since even before ME1. Fair enough hes a little bland in ME1 if you don't romance him, so are almost all the teammates in ME1 because its their introduction and obviously hes going to be overlooked in ME2 because of the short time hes actually in it but in ME3 its a reunion which develops into a strong bromance/friendship or an even stronger romance. They butchered his character making it possible for it to end in ME1 :/ I would say the same for stubborn alien racist Ashley but her character was alot worse and the excuse for her narrow-minded ideals were laughable, at least Kaidan is equal.

Its his JOB in that part of ME3 to protect the councilors, Shepard AND Cerberus invasion at the same time AND an unknown assasain (who they thought was Shepard) doesn't look good- he doesn't distrust shepard he's faced with a dilemma and says "give me a minute" because of the drastic situation, why would he have any reason to believe Udina was working against them? In the end he never shoots Shepard and either he dies saluting you or believes you and helps you stop Udina- much better than Ashley who tells you A) You're a traitor B) Stand down C) *If you or someone else shoots her- "I hope the reapers send you to hell". As for the ME2 incident he's loyal to the alliance, cerberus had an evil reputation later proved to be accurate and as far as he knew he SAW the shepard die 2 years ago and doesn't know if this is a cerberus reincarnation or AI equivalent. The ALLIANCE didn't believe the reaper threat but Kaidan and Anderson were trying to convince them it was real, Kaidan always believed Shepard about the reaper threat. Alot of your judgement is towards the alliance which Kaidan had nothing to do with their beliefs. The only thing is the ME2 incident where hes sceptical- he doesn't judge shepard he's confused why he would be working with them given their evil reputation which also makes him sceptical of the Shepard who he saw dying 2 years previous and so is one of the few teammates who doesn't blindly follow a claimed to be Shepard- its actually admirable how he doesn't just blindly follow you.

+DashingDorian He's got those tortuous headaches from his L2 implant, so when it came time to let either he or Ashley die, most gamers chose him because they could at least ration that it was an end to his pain. As such, a lot of gamers don't even know what he's like in the 2nd and 3rd games.

YakAttack Ashley's a good romance option, and as a soldier she's really useful as a squadmate, especially if you're like an adept or Sentinel or something. I've not yet saved Kaiden ever. One day I'll do that and not feel awful. Taking Miranda and Zaeed at the same time is great for all the accents (and Miranda having both Overload AND Warp makes her super versatile). And why all the hate for James? He has some funny lines if you spend enough time with him. I read somewhere that he was supposed to represent someone brand new to the Mass Effect series. Maybe the 'go gett'em' attitude that grows more serious as the game goes on.

He is generic insert male human soldier here character and just a general waste of space. Would have much preferred another squaddie to take his place. Maybe another new one, like a hanar. He would just have a shit ton of abilities and no guns. His 'firing' would just be little orbs of bioticness
I was late to the Mass Effect party as I played the series this year, and I have to say that I absolutely LOVED it. I cannot wait for Andromeda although I am sad that I will not spend more time with the awesome characters that I met in ME 1-3.
I thought he had the best backstory especially between 1 and 2 when he ran a squad of hitmen on Omega that is a story Bioware should consider for a future instalment or DLC at the very least.
If by backstory you mean his career in the military/C-Sec, then yes it's pretty bland... but then, that's one of the reasons I love Garrus so much. He starts off as nothing special--basically a low ranking policeman. By the end of the series, he's the coolest dude in the room at all times.

Shepard is alive, if you get perfect red ending, you can see him breathe in the end. So, I think he finally got back to Tali and built her that home on Rannoch, and they lived happily together till the end of days.

Mordin (I'm a sucker for sacrifice. And singing. Plus the "I made a mistake" bit was epic) 6. Liara (I know she gets a lot of stick for being shoved in your face but there are some beautiful moments in the series with her. Points off for being shoved in my face) 7. Samara (She gets knocked for seeming a bit boring, but Samara ended up being a favourite of mine. Her backstory and motivation was probably amongst the most compelling of all the squadmates) 8. Aria T'Loak (It's sort of cheating, but I liked the moral ambiguity of her character) 9. Thane (Wasn't a massive fan of his, but his death was a nice moment. Everyone speaking at his funeral was better) 10. Grunt (His antics in Citadel cracked me up to no end)
I would put Garrus, Wrex, Grunt, Legion, Liara and Kasumi on the first place. The rest on the second. Every squadmate deserves to be in the Top 10... except for Jacob, he was just... BAD.
Jacob was really good in missions where you fought against armored enemies. his pull and incendiary ammo habilities are pretty useful. Also he is the only Cerberus teammate who is completely honest and friendly with Shepard since the beginning (Miranda starts off as a complete asshole.)
***** It's called character development. Miranda was cold to Shepard at the beginning but her attitude improved as the game progressed. And if you took her for the battle with the human Reaper and chose to destroy the base, she, one of the most loyal Cerberus agents, disobeyed TIM's order and quit. She quit Cerberus and cut the transmission once TIM tried to convince Shepard one last time. Jacob just disconnected him like any other companion. As for taking Jacob for missions, I played as a Vanguard, so he was useless to me. I usually took Miranda(Warp and Overload) and Garrus(Overload, Concussive Shot and Armor-Piercing Ammo after loyalty) or Grunt(Concussive Shot and Incendiary Ammo). If I so desperately wanted another Pull, I could just take Jack who also had Warp Ammo after her loyalty. I got Zaeed early in the game for Garrus' recruitment, so the only mission I took Jacob for was his loyalty.
I played as infiltrator, so his incendiary ammo was extremely useful against armor when paired with my incinerate and disruptor ammo to take out the shields. For most missions I took him and Garrus with me, at least until I got Tali.
i played infiltrator also and unless i was playing insanity difficulty i took whoever i felt like i wanted to hear banter. on insanity it was pretty much wrex/grunt and tali, anyone else died every 2 seconds and accomplished nothing.
in ME2 you can pick each squad mate members, because of their abilities,I play infiltrator,so I pick each squad mates members,miranda (warp destroyed armor and damage health and overload disable shield,damage synthetics and overheat the weapons),garrus(conclusion shot,overload and my favorite armor Pierce ammo with the help of squadmates ammo,It those come handing),grunt(incendiary ammo with squadmates ammo and conclusion shot),tali(combat drone and energy drain damage synthetics and disable shield but absorb them and restore shield,If you succeed tali loyalty mission,but it come handing),but Jacob those come handy as well with incendiary ammo and pull to work if you play as vanguard,sentinel or adept because the biotics abilities warp,throw,Shockwave,incendirated blast,Reave

My top 10 would be 1.Mordin-Best. Singer. Ever. He was THE Scientist Salarian ;_; 2.Garrus- Best bro for male shepard ,and the no.1 best romance for femshep and the best sniper in combat. Always maintains his cool. 3.Wrex- The one who always protects Shepard's ass in combat. Great buddy to hangout with. No.1 badass of the series. 4.Thane- No.2 best romance for femshep. Great backstory. Easily had my soft spot when he mentions about his disease. Really sad that he dies. 5.Tali- cute voice. Hips game was strong. Romance was great but not as rewarding as you'd hoped for. "Shuuuuuum" game was strong. 6.Grunt- Cool krogan. No.2 badass in the game. The scene where he single handedly fights the rachni was badass and also various funny scenes in citadel dlc. 7.Legion- Was a good geth, Wish he had more screen-time though. Cool robo dance. Sad to see him die. Was great use in combat. 8.Liara- Amazing in combat. Great romance for male/fem shepard. Even if you don't romance her she still remains a great friend. 9.Kasumi- Awesome in combat. Great storyline. Interesting character to hang out with. 10.Miranda- Dat Ass. As Garrus says ''I had reach, she had flexibility''. Has really great war assets you require. Cool backstory.

Liara I wish I could Javik in this this, but I had to reinstall ME3 for technical reasons and when I reinstalled it, it took away the dlc that would let me have him -- stupid EA.
First of all; Thane never felt any guilt for the people he killed. He felt guilt for the disappointment his future wife had in him. Second; you should have mentioned the romance with Tali to be the most romantic and unique of them all. And last; Liara shouldn't be this high. She was boring. And despite how many responsibilities she's given, it doesn't change the fact that her conversations aren't really that interesting - regardless of how sexy her voice is.
I always thought of Thane like an Antivan Crow (from Dragon Age) but from the future. Same stupid belief that he is the tool that does the killing and not a person thus somehow not responsible. That always annoyed me. So I hated who he was and usually killed him by the end of ME2 (That way I avoid his stupid fight scene in ME3 where he runs into a guy's sword) I agree with Liara being a dull bore. In ME1 I only used her because of how OP biotics were. Then when ME3 came around, she was still good combat-wise, but came off as annoying and kind of whiny in certain parts. One part in particular, going to Liara's home world while under attack; She says something along the lines of "Maybe next time the alliance can lend a hand" but with a certain tone of voice that made it out like the Alliance wasnt already busy with reapers somewhere else. It just seemed like she made her world out to be more important than anything else when the whole galaxy was already at war. Sure there are ways to do it, with having the character show distress at their home being destroyed, but It just didn't seem right how they did it with her. I'd say the same about Anders and Fenris in Dragon Age 2. Other than basically being the same character but oppose opposite sides (Templar/Mage conflict), they just come off whiny and annoying to me.

I haven't played ME3 singeplayer in a while, but I don't recall Shepard being a selfish piece of crap unless you chose to play that kind of character.

I mean with the way the human race was treated during the 1st game, it was somewhat surprising that there wasn't a lot more characters that straight up hated the other alien races. Sure it's not pretty, but it did enhance the world (galaxy).
Yup...it also allowed for some pretty character development. Not to mention Ash's romance is one of my favorites in the game. Tali's is the only I like better.

She saves Shepard and pretty much the galaxy by recovering Shepard's body and giving it to Cerberus , not only that but she does everything in her power to help Shepard while they're relieved from duty on Earth by researching the archives and finding the weapon that would save the galaxy. Maybe she didn't come along in mass effect 2 but it's fair as she's in the position of (spoiler) looking for the shadow broker as main priority , or being the shadow broker herself , the only reason she could come in mass effect 3 was because of the loss of most of her resources , or she would've kept helping Shepard from her base. So after all , I'm pretty sure Liara is the most loyal. Nice to see that she did 2 major actions to save the galaxy that if not done would've left the galaxy to be harvested

I actually did like Jack. She and Miranda are almost the same person, though lol. They were both mistreated and experimented on as children to increase their biotic potential, both managed to get themselves out of that situation only to be used and abused by their "rescuer", both hold people at a distance, both believe that friendship and love are basically a myth created by people who want to use you, both use their looks and the suggestion of sex to get what they want, both are abrasive to others, and both of them had Shepard as the first person they could trust and rely on to be a real friend that wouldn't use them.
The main difference is that Miranda didn't realize the manipulation of her "rescuer" and acts cold and frigid to keep people at a distance while Jack knows she was screwed over by her "rescuers" and goes with anger and hyper sexuality to do the same thing. Both of them really grow and soften and I really like the people they become.
i always romanced Liara in all 3 (you can in me2 in the dlc) with jack as the one for me2 mainly for some reason you can romance 2 if Liara was the romance in the first one you will still have sex with jack even if you rekindle you relationship with Liara soo yeah :) and Garrus as my brother i always had him in my party Garrus Liara and jack are my fav party members joker is funny as hell so he is up there but you cant have him in your party

Vanilla means the base game - no mods or DLC. As it comes (it's a general term, not just for Mass Effect). Citadel is DLC for Mass Effect 3. I've heard it's good, but I'm not much of a fan of dlc in general (or of EA for that matter).

They really screwed the pooch with the squad mates in 3. Garrus and Liara are only good ones, EDI, useless, James, a joke, Ashley/Kaiden, annoying, Tali, weak, but Javik was a good third wheel between Garrus and Liara
Newell Joseph Yeah. You aren't lying. I always played as an Infiltrator in all my Mass Effect playthroughs. So I would usually have Sniper, Sniper, Tank Or Biotic but usually Tank after I got the Bonus power. In 3 I didn't even like the bonus power and I hated James(didn't like the character and I grew up in the 90's with an older sister who loved the
AWFUL ACTOR Freddie Prince Jr. which is the voice for James Vega that added to my already considerable hate. Plus, again no Krogan). Not saying ME3 was a bad game. It wasn't. It was a great game up until the ending just for the most part hated the companions other then Garrus and Liara. That also limited my replay ability. I use to switch up in Mass Effect to keep it interesting but that wasn't an option in 3.
NinjaLo, I know how you feel. I LOVED ME3. Played it multiple times. But I loved the squad in ME2. It was a badass squad. So I was disappointed that (with the exception of Garrus & Tali) none returned to the Normandy in ME3. I didn't hate James Vega, but he's a lame replacement for a tank in the team. Also, I romanced Jack from ME2 and still carried it thru ME3, but I hated the fact that the romance scenes were few and far between and she wasn't part of my team. *sigh* Oh well.
Robby Bobby Yeah, you're right about the squad in ME2. Really badass!! Vega isn't that bad. I like him a lot better than Kaiden. I have romanced Jack and Miranda and it is unfulfilling in ME3 when trying to continue those relationships because they can't join you. You can see Miranda and interact with her a little more than Jack, but it still sucks they can't be with you.

What is the problem with Kaiden? He's a nice guy in ME and he rocks in ME3. Ashley, though. She's a bitch, a religious and racist one, at that.
Kaidan not even an honourable mention? OK humans are not going to be the most popular obviously but I honestly don't get why people take such a disliking to him- hes very genuine, nice and has an interesting backstory, although his character progression isn't the best (alot of the characters on this list are the same) he's one of the best teammates to have around and is highly overlooked or disliked because of that scene in ME2 where he doesn't trust Cerberus (seriously, its not like he doesn't have reason to be suspicious- he IS right and he doesn't "leave you to die" like alot of people claim, hes very grateful and wants to be with you but knows you aren't doing the right thing so he sticks with his moral compass) In ME3 hes one of the best romances for male or female shep and even if you don't hes still a good friend to Shepard who has been with them since even before ME1. Fair enough hes a little bland in ME1 if you don't romance him, so are almost all the teammates in ME1 because its their introduction and obviously hes going to be overlooked in ME2 because of the short time hes actually in it but in ME3 its a reunion which develops into a strong bromance/friendship or an even stronger romance. They butchered his character making it possible for it to end in ME1 :/ I would say the same for stubborn alien racist Ashley but her character was alot worse and the excuse for her narrow-minded ideals were laughable, at least Kaidan is equal.

P.S I get not wanting to join Cerberus himself, but then he judges Shepard for "joining them". Seriously? Cerberus gave a fortune rebuilding Shepard, they give him/her a crew, a ship and they give him/her resources to fight the Collector threat while the alliance declared him/her dead, called him/her a liar more than once and did absolutely nothing to stop the Collectors or prepare for the Reaper invasion when they knew they're real. Kaidan should've been better than that!

Its his JOB in that part of ME3 to protect the councilors, Shepard AND Cerberus invasion at the same time AND an unknown assasain (who they thought was Shepard) doesn't look good- he doesn't distrust shepard he's faced with a dilemma and says "give me a minute" because of the drastic situation, why would he have any reason to believe Udina was working against them? In the end he never shoots Shepard and either he dies saluting you or believes you and helps you stop Udina- much better than Ashley who tells you A) You're a traitor B) Stand down C) *If you or someone else shoots her- "I hope the reapers send you to hell". As for the ME2 incident he's loyal to the alliance, cerberus had an evil reputation later proved to be accurate and as far as he knew he SAW the shepard die 2 years ago and doesn't know if this is a cerberus reincarnation or AI equivalent. The ALLIANCE didn't believe the reaper threat but Kaidan and Anderson were trying to convince them it was real, Kaidan always believed Shepard about the reaper threat. Alot of your judgement is towards the alliance which Kaidan had nothing to do with their beliefs. The only thing is the ME2 incident where hes sceptical- he doesn't judge shepard he's confused why he would be working with them given their evil reputation which also makes him sceptical of the Shepard who he saw dying 2 years previous and so is one of the few teammates who doesn't blindly follow a claimed to be Shepard- its actually admirable how he doesn't just blindly follow you.
+DashingDorian Eh, to me both him and Ash always came off as...well dicks to be honest...Sure they're good to look at, and competent in battle but as far as their personalities and back stories go they are either bland or like I said, could be seen as rude, arrogant, and sometimes even dickish is the best word to describe.
+DashingDorian You're not alone. Kaidan is one of my favorite characters and he has been since ME1. I can't really say much about Ash since she's never made it past Virmire. Sad that he wasn't even mentioned in this video.
+DashingDorian He's got those tortuous headaches from his L2 implant, so when it came time to let either he or Ashley die, most gamers chose him because they could at least ration that it was an end to his pain.
As such, a lot of gamers don't even know what he's like in the 2nd and 3rd games.

YakAttack Ashley's a good romance option, and as a soldier she's really useful as a squadmate, especially if you're like an adept or Sentinel or something. I've not yet saved Kaiden ever. One day I'll do that and not feel awful.
Taking Miranda and Zaeed at the same time is great for all the accents (and Miranda having both Overload AND Warp makes her super versatile).
And why all the hate for James? He has some funny lines if you spend enough time with him. I read somewhere that he was supposed to represent someone brand new to the Mass Effect series. Maybe the 'go gett'em' attitude that grows more serious as the game goes on.

I was late to the Mass Effect party as I played the series this year, and I have to say that I absolutely LOVED it. I cannot wait for Andromeda although I am sad that I will not spend more time with the awesome characters that I met in ME 1-3.

Agree completely with #1, Garrus was a brilliant character, back story was a bit meh, but his personality and usefulness in combat makes him great.
I thought he had the best backstory especially between 1 and 2 when he ran a squad of hitmen on Omega that is a story Bioware should consider for a future instalment or DLC at the very least.
If by backstory you mean his career in the military/C-Sec, then yes it's pretty bland... but then, that's one of the reasons I love Garrus so much. He starts off as nothing special--basically a low ranking policeman. By the end of the series, he's the coolest dude in the room at all times.

Shepard is alive, if you get perfect red ending, you can see him breathe in the end. So, I think he finally got back to Tali and built her that home on Rannoch, and they lived happily together till the end of days.

4. Legion ("Does this unit have a soul?" Tears were flowing)
5. Mordin (I'm a sucker for sacrifice. And singing. Plus the "I made a mistake" bit was epic)
6. Liara (I know she gets a lot of stick for being shoved in your face but there are some beautiful moments in the series with her. Points off for being shoved in my face)
7. Samara (She gets knocked for seeming a bit boring, but Samara ended up being a favourite of mine. Her backstory and motivation was probably amongst the most compelling of all the squadmates)
8. Aria T'Loak (It's sort of cheating, but I liked the moral ambiguity of her character)
9. Thane (Wasn't a massive fan of his, but his death was a nice moment. Everyone speaking at his funeral was better)
10. Grunt (His antics in Citadel cracked me up to no end)
I would put Garrus, Wrex, Grunt, Legion, Liara and Kasumi on the first place. The rest on the second. Every squadmate deserves to be in the Top 10... except for Jacob, he was just... BAD.
Jacob was really good in missions where you fought against armored enemies. his pull and incendiary ammo habilities are pretty useful. Also he is the only Cerberus teammate who is completely honest and friendly with Shepard since the beginning (Miranda starts off as a complete asshole.)
***** It's called character development. Miranda was cold to Shepard at the beginning but her attitude improved as the game progressed. And if you took her for the battle with the human Reaper and chose to destroy the base, she, one of the most loyal Cerberus agents, disobeyed TIM's order and quit. She quit Cerberus and cut the transmission once TIM tried to convince Shepard one last time. Jacob just disconnected him like any other companion.
As for taking Jacob for missions, I played as a Vanguard, so he was useless to me. I usually took Miranda(Warp and Overload) and Garrus(Overload, Concussive Shot and Armor-Piercing Ammo after loyalty) or Grunt(Concussive Shot and Incendiary Ammo). If I so desperately wanted another Pull, I could just take Jack who also had Warp Ammo after her loyalty. I got Zaeed early in the game for Garrus' recruitment, so the only mission I took Jacob for was his loyalty.
I played as infiltrator, so his incendiary ammo was extremely useful against armor when paired with my incinerate and disruptor ammo to take out the shields. For most missions I took him and Garrus with me, at least until I got Tali.
i played infiltrator also and unless i was playing insanity difficulty i took whoever i felt like i wanted to hear banter. on insanity it was pretty much wrex/grunt and tali, anyone else died every 2 seconds and accomplished nothing.
in ME2 you can pick each squad mate members, because of their abilities,I play infiltrator,so I pick each squad mates members,miranda (warp destroyed armor and damage health and overload disable shield,damage synthetics and overheat the weapons),garrus(conclusion shot,overload and my favorite armor Pierce ammo with the help of squadmates ammo,It those come handing),grunt(incendiary ammo with squadmates ammo and conclusion shot),tali(combat drone and energy drain damage synthetics and disable shield but absorb them and restore shield,If you succeed tali loyalty mission,but it come handing),but Jacob those come handy as well with incendiary ammo and pull to work if you play as vanguard,sentinel or adept because the biotics abilities warp,throw,Shockwave,incendirated blast,Reave

1.Mordin-Best. Singer. Ever. He was THE Scientist Salarian ;_;
2.Garrus- Best bro for male shepard ,and the no.1 best romance for femshep and the best sniper in combat. Always maintains his cool.
3.Wrex- The one who always protects Shepard's ass in combat. Great buddy to hangout with. No.1 badass of the series.
4.Thane- No.2 best romance for femshep. Great backstory. Easily had my soft spot when he mentions about his disease. Really sad that he dies.
5.Tali- cute voice. Hips game was strong. Romance was great but not as rewarding as you'd hoped for. "Shuuuuuum" game was strong.
6.Grunt- Cool krogan. No.2 badass in the game. The scene where he single handedly fights the rachni was badass and also various funny scenes in citadel dlc.
7.Legion- Was a good geth, Wish he had more screen-time though. Cool robo dance. Sad to see him die. Was great use in combat.
8.Liara- Amazing in combat. Great romance for male/fem shepard. Even if you don't romance her she still remains a great friend.
9.Kasumi- Awesome in combat. Great storyline. Interesting character to hang out with.
10.Miranda- Dat Ass. As Garrus says ''I had reach, she had flexibility''. Has really great war assets you require. Cool backstory.

What a great Wrex quote to end the video. When I played through The Citadel it gave me a good laugh.
First of all; Thane never felt any guilt for the people he killed. He felt guilt for the disappointment his future wife had in him.
Second; you should have mentioned the romance with Tali to be the most romantic and unique of them all.
And last; Liara shouldn't be this high. She was boring. And despite how many responsibilities she's given, it doesn't change the fact that her conversations aren't really that interesting - regardless of how sexy her voice is.
I always thought of Thane like an Antivan Crow (from Dragon Age) but from the future. Same stupid belief that he is the tool that does the killing and not a person thus somehow not responsible. That always annoyed me. So I hated who he was and usually killed him by the end of ME2 (That way I avoid his stupid fight scene in ME3 where he runs into a guy's sword)
I agree with Liara being a dull bore. In ME1 I only used her because of how OP biotics were. Then when ME3 came around, she was still good combat-wise, but came off as annoying and kind of whiny in certain parts. One part in particular, going to Liara's home world while under attack; She says something along the lines of "Maybe next time the alliance can lend a hand" but with a certain tone of voice that made it out like the Alliance wasnt already busy with reapers somewhere else. It just seemed like she made her world out to be more important than anything else when the whole galaxy was already at war. Sure there are ways to do it, with having the character show distress at their home being destroyed, but It just didn't seem right how they did it with her. I'd say the same about Anders and Fenris in Dragon Age 2. Other than basically being the same character but oppose opposite sides (Templar/Mage conflict), they just come off whiny and annoying to me.

AlbonitumG I did hate that Bioware made ME3 more about Earth, but Shepard isn't your teammate, Shepard is your character thus irrelevant to the current topic of discussion. I haven't played ME3 singeplayer in a while, but I don't recall Shepard being a selfish piece of crap unless you chose to play that kind of character.

James was like a poor man's Grunt....nothing wrong with IMO especially since the real deal wasn;t available. Zaeed was one of my primary go to guys in 2. Mordin had more personality, but I didn't use him very much as a squadmate. I found a him a little squishy.
***** I liked that she was a racist, it made for a more compelling and believable character. I mean with the way the human race was treated during the 1st game, it was somewhat surprising that there wasn't a lot more characters that straight up hated the other alien races. Sure it's not pretty, but it did enhance the world (galaxy).
Yup...it also allowed for some pretty character development. Not to mention Ash's romance is one of my favorites in the game. Tali's is the only I like better.
