    Great coverage Andrew, very informative for those of us that couldn't be there. Well done.

      Thanks Paul, apologies with the wind noise but in the middle of a 45 acre field and 30 mile an hour winds, it was always going to be an issue.

    Great video. I like the Claydon and the Weaving, nice simple low HP requirement too.

    Great content Andrew, really well organised day and some great machines by the looks of it. Should do a combine day one year.

    A person round here uses a weaving drill 4.8m and put a set of discs on the front of a JD around 180hp,goes direct into cover crops after being sprayed off ,Overbury by Tewksbury had a cross slot drill doing the same thing,although its quite up and down as regards the slope of the fields,use a 350hp JD ,thinks its around 3.5 metres ,an odd width,you have to cover the acres to dilute the cost of the equipment. another farmer's thoughts were direct drilling, the straw is chopped and a controlled traffic system to reduce the amount of compacted ground,Is it a Mr Reynolds around Stamford who uses a stripper header on the combine and then used a JD direct drill.Around here they have found a stripper header is good for harvesting grass seeds.

      Thanks Philip, putting something on the front of a tractor would be good on some soil types but the ground we had the demo on yesterday would come up too raw if the cover crop was chopped up immediately in front of the drill, it would need time to weather. I know Jake at Overbury well and he uses a cross slot but the soil type is totally different to ours. Tony Reynolds has been doing lots of regen stuff for years and I’m always keen to learn of people like him and Jake.

    Hello Andrew. Did Mr Dale mention the Simba free-flowing conversion to Dale tine kit. Used 3mtr Dale successfully on heavy land spring drilling for over 20 years, after having slot shrinkage and exposing seed with disc drill

    Nice demo, good to compare machines. There are no drills putting down nitrogen? ( i heard it s better to apply some in d.d.? ) i am from belgium, there is no DD over here, just lots of minimal drilling ( subsoiler+ powerharrow) but Farms are much smaller here

    Would the direct drills incorporate the sewage sludge you have?did you say you have 10000 t/annum spread at 7t/ac?

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  Před 2 lety

      I think the only drill that would incorporate Sludge successfully would be the Claydon. Otherwise you would need a drill that has small discs working at an angle in front of the seeding tines. You could then lift those out when you wanted to drill direct. Drills such as the Bednár omega and some Vadestad rapid’s.

  • @philipsankey988
    @philipsankey988 Před 2 lety

    The person who had the weaving drill,had a claydon before,did a grass ley, been down a while, after being sprayed off,its wasnt a pretty job by all accounts ,seed on the surface,I think Overbury are missing the benefits of the cattle ,had 2 dairy herds a generation ago,on the cotswold brash,they will feel things now on that type of ground ,with the way fertiliser prices have gone,Its not easy trying to replicate the benefits of livestock through a cover crop type scenario,Its always said in crop judging competitions in the summer ,they can tell the crops on a mixed farm.Im still trying to get my head around the difference between regen agriculture and a mixed farming system.

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  Před 2 lety

      The word regen ag could cover every system! It’s funny how a new phrase is used in so many contexts!
