I wonder how many people even thought at this moment in his career that this guy could end up being the greatest player to ever hold a tennis racquet.
In 2010 people didn't even think that Novak could win any more slam(s) after the 2008 Australian Open. And even if he did, they never thought he could win even 4-5 more slams.
Scary how he won 20+ majors from 2011 onward to 2022, more than Federer and Nadal's total win of grand slam titles combined in that span of time.
3:37:07 the best point of the match
In hindsight, 2010 Wimbledon was so strange. Prior to it, Federer was the man (even if he lost in 2008, it was still close). After 2010, Novak was the man (aside from losses in 2012 and 2013, but he was still in the SF and F). 2016 Fed and Novak were injured. This was the only Wimbledon where they were healthy and both went out early (for their standards). Rafa capitalized.
Yupp strange Wimbledon
Yup, and the reason why both Djokovic and Federer got eliminated was due to an inspired Berdych beating both of them back to back. Even more strange is that 2010 Wimbledon was the only time Berdych ever reached a Grand Slam final in his entire career, so he certainly peaked highest during this tournament
Djokovic won this one just a minute before the curfew. Went on to reach SFs before losing poorly to Berdych. Probably the most dramatic day one of Wimbledon ever on Centre Court with play starting at 1PM and finishing at 10:59pm. 2010 was also the year of Isner v Mahut, so little did they know what was to happen.
Also don’t forget that earlier that day before this match Federer almost lost to Falla. And later that week there were the back to back Nadal comebacks against Haase and Petzschner.
@@ErikCB912 @Guy Dixon this has to be the greatest Day 1 at Wimbledon of all time. Federer almost losing but finding a way through in 5, then Djokovic surviving from 2 sets to 1 down, clinching the win with 1 minute to spare before curfew would have forced them off. They would have stopped play at 5-3 no question. How crazy would that have been.
Centre Court ticket holders got their moneys worth that day zero question. Two GOATs playing 5 sets and seeing the maximum possible tennis. Started on time, ended 1 min before the curfew would have stopped play.
I always had a soft spot for Rochus. Was always amazed at what he could do at his height. I saw him play Isner live at the hall of fame and he held his own for 2 close sets.

Rochus is the best short player ever. Only 5'5" and was Top 25 at one point.
Diego Schwartzman is pretty good at 5'7" and is a regular in the world's top 20.
He's at least 5'6 probably 5'7 i saw him next to me
it in unbelievable that Schwartzman is a top 10 player at his height
It was a good thing that Nole changed his serve motion.
Still improving AO 2021
Djokovic was a great player already but people saying that his game did not change in and after 2011... he played with more variety in 2010 and that is not his strong suit, even if he is capable of doing that. Mechanically though, he is the strongest player ever to play the game.
Unbelievable Djokovic transformation from 2010 - serving most doubles inside top 10 - to literally becoming most clutch / airtight game / mentally strong the following year and winning the title against defending champion. GOAT no two ways about it
This was before djokovic became djokoroid and beating old out of prime federer injury prone nadal in 2011
Absolutely not. A close second to Nadal.
@@josephmanno4514in what aspect? There are nooo
@@josephmanno4514 nadal literally dont have any stats superior than djoko lmao, stop di*kriding, Rafa just dominated clay courts and thats it
Oliver Rochus is my favourite, the king.
Djokovic´s game and mentality has changed a lot after 2010
We see him tiring a lot. I think it was due to his gluten problem. The moment it was figured out, he became the best player in the world. There were never questions on his game, it was his fitness that changed remarkably. I hope I am not wrong. Regards
Rochus’ backhand is so elegant tbh
Full match replay requests we would love to see: On Day 7 Djokovic vs Anderson 2015, Day 9 Federer vs Anderson 2018, Day 11 Anderson vs Isner 2018 and Day 13 Djokovic vs Anderson 2018 (at least the third set because it had good quality and was enetertaining) or Djokovic vs Nadal 2011
That all happened like, yesterday! We need more old matches, it is not easy to get them in full
Too much Anderson, mix it up and go further into the past
South African for sure
@@kidpagronprimsank05 i am not South African, infact I am a Macedonian that supports Novak and I found Kevin's matches so epic in that 2018 Championships
Please show nadal vs muller 2017. It was one of the best matches in wimbledon history.
Ah. Finally someone who makes sense.
Yes a brilliant match .
Wimbledon actually liked Nole a lot back then
He was not a threat to Federer back then. All that changed in 2011.
@@alextabet9247 that’s what I mean
Yeah before he started demanding it & started his awful begging to each stand at the win end & Wimbledon fans won't be fooled with that. He still just doesn't get it.

LEGEND
Now just imagine Rochus with 20cm more. This guy would have been unbeatable.
Little did he know that he would become a Wimbledon machine right after this
With 7 wimbledon titles
This was before he became djokoroid
right, i had the feeling back then that grass was his worst surface, he proved wrong
@@MgoUmk clay are his worst surface
@@MgoUmk
This aint fast grass, so yea, it'll be Novak's worst surface had grass didn't slow down.
Please Nadal v Muller one of the most memorable matches of Wimbledon
Nadal vs kyrgios too
Who would have thought watching this match back then that Novak would go on to win 6 Wimbledon titles, if not more? By the time he retires in 3-4 years, Novak could well have tied Federer's record of 8.
Only one behind now 😃
@@branluck5856 indeed. I think it is very likely that he will tie Federer's record. He could even break it and win 9 Wimbledon titles.
Agassi v el aynaoui in 2003 was one of the best R3 matches I've seen as was Hewitt v El Aynaoui in 2002.
Hahah i'm moroccan and started tennis because if el aynaoui...he's amazing charisma
Wonder why the NextGen lose in the first rounds of slams so often? There's a confidence and clarity to real champions under pressure that they just don't have. This match is a perfect example. Look at the end of the fourth set. Djokovic has been losing forehand cross-court rallies. Djokovic pulls a short angle cross-court winner at 15-40. Rochus then misses his chance with a sitter backhand. And then Djokovic shuts the door with three aces in four points - despite his serve sputtering and misfiring all match long.
2-2, 15-40 In the fifth is another example. At the end of a grueling rally, Djokovic decides to come to the net. Why? Confidence. He then makes a technically poor but utterly brilliant drop volley to break Rochus. The match is over.
The NextGen just don't have this kind of strength under pressure. They don't have that lightning in a bottle that Djokovic and the Big Three have.
Djokovic lost to Melzer from 2 sets up the previous slam but ok lol

SuperIsaacVideos I think the 2010 USO win over Federer changed his career
Carlos alcaraz may be the real deal followed by FAA and sinner. Good prospects to watch for.. In the next couple of years.
Alcaraz definitely has It!!!
Round of 16 Sampras Vs Fed is a must
YES
Berdych Federer or Berdych Djokovic Wimbledon 2010 please?
Novak Djokovic, the greatest of all time.
2010 Novak had trouble his serve. Tod Martin nearly destroyed his serve form.
I'm very pleased Novak came back to his old serve motion.

Thiem Vs Verdasco 2015 a classic up and coming Thiem 5 setter.
This was almost a big upset, but on retrospect even moreso than we knew at the time. At the time of that match Djokovic had won one slam and played in just two slam finals.

ロクスのプレーは本当に参考になる。
Aaaah , Rochus. One of our Belgian greats. (Pun intended). If he'd just was 10 to 20cm taller he would've been a top10 player for sure. Being 5'6"(168cm) and still make it to the top30 of the world is not easy.
How difficult his breathing is in 2010. He could not breathe from the start. Lucky for him and us that he changed the diet, and what a change it has been since.
Well he was already at gluten- and dairy-free diet so...
@@JonathanSTW that is true, but barely. Novak started his gluten and dairy free diet in the Spring of 2010. It took several months for his body and his game to reach its full potential. That being said, Novak has always struggled with heat and humidity. His ideal conditions are cool and dry weather.
@@alextabet9247 Nadal doesn't like humidity either .
skips Miami often
@@guineapig55555 I think that applies to clay more than hard courts in the case of Rafa, because heavier clay neutralizes his incredible top spin forehand.
Nadal vs Kendick 2006, or Nadal Vs Haase 2010.

Shades of Novak post corrective serve action and diet change.
This isn’t a classic match. The points aren’t good. It’s Djokovic sucking for 4 hours and barely winning.
