The problem with such towns is that the very industries that created them in the first place have gone away many decades ago. And with little outside of general retail store jobs theirs not much around to revive such places. More over, it takes youth and grass roots upstart businesses , innovation and ambition to kickstart a town to life. Just across the river in the town of Beacon there's been a fairly recent revival of the town that was equally down and out just a decade ago. But Beacon had rail access to the city and other towns down the Hudson with marginal levels of work. making it just that bit much easier for its residents to finds and maintain jobs. Beacon itself found growth in ambitious startups, people who left the city looking to find cheaper refuge and possible take a new direction in the mid to later part of their lives. The Pandemic had changed the playing field for many states peoples and businesses. So in Beacon they found very cheap local housing and bought into the towns many vacant storefronts. And in no time the town all be it sleepy turned into a vibrant little art centric town. Fine arts Cafe's restaurants all the sorts of things catering to quality of life that people gravitate towards. The town began to snowball with growing residency and annual tourism. Newburgh needs the same sort of revival. BUT it does take money. investment money from banks, and thus those sorts of loans demands assets to borrow against. And that's exactly what folks in Newburgh do not have as whole, as its a town who's people lived off of past dried up industry. You see.. its never ever a good idea to build a town around one industry. No matter how thriving that industry may be at the moment. If Corning the worlds leading glass and materials related company decided to relocate its NY headquarters and founding location, the town of corning of its namesake would fall to ruin. Just as soon as the industry takes a nose dive so does the township. And if people cant relocate then they are stuck in a rut. A slow painfull sinking of a ship. Lastly such things are indeed affecting most towns in the US. many places look like third world countries. Its hard to believe that our government either does not care or its peoples of operation are completely clueless to whats befallen the nation. Catering to the rich and wealthy. side stepping domestic labor for cheap foreign labor. Putting the nations destiny on the gambling table of the stock market and its biggest betters the shareholders. Businessmen the foil of progress and growth. But make no mistake all that we see was like this before the wars. before the era of finacial and credit gain in the US. past methods of growth have also dried up. or in the least has been corrupted to the point the nations people are left like those leaving the casino without a penny in their pockets nor a pot to piss in.

It was a good drive thru, but some narration would have been helpful. Even if you only mentioned what roads you were on and the direction of travel. It's sad to see that so many buildings are now gone and so many in need of tender loving care. There is so much potential there !

As someone else has said, narration would be great. Shorten this vid and find out about certain buildings, kind of like how "Joe and Nic" does it. At 9:25 there was an old bank. Find out about it ans tell us in the vid. It would make it more interesting.

I used to run those streets in the 1990s. It was a hell hole of drugs back then. Is it still drug ridden? I lived in Middletown. Good times. Love Upstate NY. Good people up there.

To think this was a beautiful thriving city in the 1950’s. We can thank urban renewal in the 1960’s for the beginning of the downfall of this city. Serious corruption at city hall.

Urban renewal was the answer to the downfall not the cause, obviously urban renewal didn’t work as intended. The city of Newburgh is still a nice looking place in some areas 👍🏼

I believed in what was happening in 2001.
In 2008 lost my business but even if 2008 didn't happen, Newburgh has some very serious spiritual oppression. No other New York small city comes close to having the darkest cloud over them! Newburgh! Could be the most beautiful place in upstate New York. Anyone that has tried to believe in it like myself has failed because it just will never happen.... Something must have happened there that we don't know about...
