- Talking about my experiences with Archaelund, a throwback to some classic rpgs, in it's early access release where we'll explore the titular island once home to an ancient empire.

Might And Magic 6 - 7 - 8 / Wizardry 8 meets Solasta... seems like a very good idea that should work quite well.
It looks interesting, I'm glad the combat switches to turn based like that. I will have to look at it.
So happy you made a video about this. The dev also made Exiled Kingdoms, which is an old school RPG worth checking out if you ever have time this year.
Oh yeah this one is a treat led by mostly a 1 man developer thats really passionate about his games!
Btw his previous game is called Exiled Kingdoms. Pretty good RPG.
I just checked you haven't reviewed The Bard's Tale 4? This game should be right up your alley
Wow, the world exploration reminds me of might and magic series.
Shame it's a dead genre now. Devs either go too deep and use turn-based and tile-based movement and combat or do top-down CRPGs. The real-time RPG with possible turn-based combat of MM6-MM9 is now just dead for some reason, despite the fact that it would be more approachable to masses than a run-of-the-mill dungeon crawler.
Looks very interesting and promising. I’ll check it out
it seems very interesting, thanks .. I'll put it in my wishlist and wait for a more advanced version 👍
Good game, just started letsplaying it - the best part so far is that it really has Might & Magic vibes. Also combination of first person exploration and turn-based combat may work good. And the main part for me - there are secrets and skill to find something awesome in dungeons - I love that stuff. Let's hope for fruitful development progress on this one, rare genre and really promising game!
Might and Magic vibes is what I was hoping for! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it.
I dont do early access anymore, but this is definitely going in the wishlist for when it goes 1.0.
What a mix of old and new... Fascinating
Ooooh, gives me strong Might and Magic vibes, and the split between first person exploration and TRPG combat is a cool way to do things. Definitely going to keep my eye on this.
I'm really loving the comeback of retro style games.
Thanks for informing me about this game. I am enjoying what I see so far, and added it my wishlist.
Thanks for the video. We'll see where it goes. It looks like it could be an inviting world to explore. Onward to 300k. All glory to the algorithm.
This is basically the old empire from exiled kingdoms lol
This looks very good. I can’t wait to see the finished product.
This looks so up my alley! Basically the same way the last Kings Bounty game did it with the first person exploration and the switch to turn-based battles, I LOVE that concept! Had a lot of fun with Kings Bounty despite its flaws, imo the reviews are way too harsh on that one.
Great timing. I just saw this game, thought about buying it, googled the name and you have a freshly uploaded a video on it
I thought I was just going to be subscribed for as long as you covered BG3, but apparently you are a phenomenal resource for games I would have never found otherwise. Good choices, good coverage, good scripts.
I dont write scripts just make some bulletpoints, but thanks!
Brings up nice memories of the quite good Might & Magic X: Legacy, the brilliant Wizardy 8 and the spot-on Legend Of Grimrock 2.
Looks like an old gem (recently reworked) Realms of Arkania. First person exploration and isometric turn based combat.
Thank you for the information man. This does look interesting.
Mortis, how about a turn-based RPG list for 2024?
As someone who's got the motor coordination of someone seemingly permanently drunk, I always hope for more good turn based rpgs.
You could just say, 'all of them'.. Since all the damn RPGs, are now turn-based..
@@jmmywyf4lyf Last year was full of non turn based RPG releases.
@@tmzFRM any good crpgs that weren't turn based? What would you recommend?
Or, do you mean the crap that is slappe dwith an "rpg" label, simply for having a skill tree, or character creation?
What are your criteria for calling a game a CRPG? Because some of the biggest releases of the last years were classified as CRPGS and weren't turn based - in fact, BG3 being turn based was considered a huge risk.
Also: if your just saying last year non turn based RPGs weren't good, that's another question.
I'm really interested in this one. Seems like it combines a lot of the stuff I'd want to see in a game like this from first person exploration, to turn based grid style combat, and the biggest thing is letting me build an entire party from the get go. The art also looks great though the character models still need a little work. Or a lot of work. Listen the mechanic have me hype so I can look past the jank. I'm looking forward to seeing where this game goes and thanks for the video!
I love tactical rpg’s but I have too many to play I’m
Still in the middle of baldurs gate 3, triangle strategy and fire emblem. I love the first person perspective on this one though
Good morning. Been looking forward to a look on this game.
can play as a minotaur SOLD
At first glance this reminds me a lot of The Bard's Tale 4, looks cool
I'm intrigued by the idea of FP exploration and top-down turn based combat.
I've often thought that the FP perspective is used best in "walking sims" and other investigative (non-combat) games...And would love to see that in a RPG.
This kind of makes me think of Warriors of the Eternal Sun from back in the Mega Drive/Genesis day.
ohhhhhh the combat system seems neat!
Much potential.
It's more than just "interesting" - as he says here. The game absolutely oozes atmosphere and it's clear that, with it's depthful lore base and really well-written dialogue, this could become a truly brilliant game. The developer is super friendly and is making almost daily patches to the game at the moment.
I don't know if it is late for me to ask this but can you check out Back to the Dawn. It is in early access as well but is really flushed out as a prison survival RPG and I spent hours on it being both mad at myself for my idiocy and also impressed. There is only one finished story while the other is currently still developed until full release.
big legend of grimrock vibes. i'm interested
Could this be a proper successor to Wizardry 8? I hope so…. I’m watching this closely though the EA period does seem to take about 2 years before we can even aim for release according to the roadmap.
I'm so over early access games... even though I am playing one now lol
There is also a remake of the first Wizardry game in EA right now.
games seem to really love the your on a ship that crashes on a beach to start games. POE, Baldurs gate, DOS. etc.....
Reminds me a lot of Legend of Grimrock, but with Turn Based and with some assets flip.
Ive actually really wanted an old school exploration type ge recently. K ow of any other ones a bit more polished to check out?
Reworked Realms of Arkania
This looks like smth I was looking for, but sadly I don't have access to my gaming PC the next 2 months, and even though this is an indie it requires a 1060 so my integrated GPU laptop will not be able to run it. I was so sad I couldn't run Pathologic 2 on it either.
Reminds me of betrayal at krondor
reminds me of a new gen version of eyes of the beholder
Looks pretty neat, but like you said wishlisted but I'll wait for more dev time.
Looks nice
Interesting and intriguing game - cooperative play?
1st person exploration + isometric tactical combat is nice to see, but why is there no game with 3rd person-to-isometric seemless transition like DA origins or Spellforce anymore ?
Even BG3 doesn't do it for some reason, having the view depend on your hardware instead, a baffling decision
yeah, splattercat had a vid on this yesterday, and it looked really impressive. super dated graphics, sure. but otherwise. that seemless first person, to tactical rpg reminds me soo much of Wizardry 8.
Good morning Mortym
Happy wednesday!
For the algorithm!
Gronk!
oh looks like Might and Magic 1 - VI
Looks promising, but it's one of those games I would rather wait for full release. It feels like it may be a repeat of Stoneshard, teasing players and then make them wait for years for final version.
At first look this reminds me of Sonic 2.
First person RPG... but not Legend of Grimrock clone movement?
Switch in perspective reminds me of Realms of Arkania which got 2 nice remakes/remasters (recent release on GOG reminded me about them) but sadly studio closed before they made 3rd game in the trilogy
Hi, could you please check out like a dragon? It is coming out later this month. Thanks.
Made by David at 4D_Games
Nothing beats Might & Magic 6, 7 and 9 combat and exploration.
You can do a review or look back on old rpg / crpg / etc us old gamers will walk the nostalgia lane
I got excited up until the grid based combat. Seriously, BG3 and Rogue Trader are an absolute slogs, and they attracted me DESPITE the TBC. I almost feel that oldschool style first person combat would save the dev alot of development time and give more resources to feed into the campaign development.
Oh joy... ANOTHER turn based rpg... 🙄
