- *I posted this film many years ago, but due to demand and a recent spike in views, I've been translating and subbing this film. It's partially done, but should be completely done in the next few days, please be patient, its very time consuming and tedious work
This film is based on a riot that occurred in a military prison in Israel in the 1990's. "Hayalim Boddedim" or "Lone Soldiers" is a term for immigrant soldiers who immigrated to Israel by themselves and don't have family or friends in the country and as a result, don't really have the support system that native born Israeli soldiers usually do. The film also explores topics such as the discrimination and prejudice that was directed at the large number of Post-Soviet Russian speaking immigrants that arrived in Israel in the 1990's.
Please note that a lot of the dialogue switches quickly between Hebrew and Russian, sometimes in the same sentence. Think of it as something close to "Spanglish" in the USA. And that some of the Hebrew spoken by the main characters is sometimes ungrammatical and "incorrect", since they are recent immigrants and still perfecting their Hebrew.
*I also chose to translate the Hebrew term "Kavkazi" as "Azerbaijani" rather than "Caucasian". In Hebrew, Kavkazi literally means "Caucasian" in the sense of referring to people and things from the wider Caucasus region, but usually refers to an ethnic group of Farsi/Judeo-Tat speaking Jews that mostly were centered in Azerbaijan. Since "Caucasian" generally has a certain racial connotation in English that it doesn't in Hebrew or Russian, and the character of Glory Campbell and the actor portraying him are of Azerbaijani Jewish origin, I thought just saying Azerbaijani would be clearer. It's also worth noting that there is some level of hostility and racism in the Russian speaking world directed at people from the Caucasus, due to generally having darker complexions, "speaking Russian badly", cultural differences, and the fact that many Caucasians are Muslim or Jewish. This is shown in the film where Gelperin shows open contempt at Glory and doesn't even attempt to hide his dislike of his Caucasian background.
What a lovely movie, I am in tears while watching this movie. Glory love his friend with his full heart, only few people knows this incomparable with civil life.

1. Outstanding film, just a pity about the subtitles coming to an end, particularly because the translation is excellent. 2. It beggars belief that soldiers stationed in the Golan could be accused of stealing arms for Hamas who are all the way down in Gaza. 3. Many of us are aware of ethnic, cultural and racial discrimination in Israel. It's admirable that individuals stand up for minorities and make their plight known. 4. By extension, we should never forget the suffering of the Palestinians. I'm sure the circumstances in which this story is rooted would never arise if Palestine were free.

1. I don't know why this film--gripping as it is--shows up under gay-themed movies, although Glory does love Sasha as a friend (or am I missing something in the last dialogue?)
2. I can't believe they got off with such light sentences.
Great movie.
I’m not sure why it does either. It started showing up under LGBT themed playlists randomly a few years after I posted it even though there’s nothing in the film related to LGBT issues/storylines.
