I'm reading these comments and I am super surprised that people are surprised that Amanda used notes and not a teleprompter & spoke with her hands. Maybe it's generational thingđŸ€·đŸżâ€â™€ïž. And the thing about looking at the camera is lame. Giving a speech is based on speaking to the audience in front of you. A person speaking straight to a camera should look at a camera. But she is speaking at an event. Similar to a speaking at a graduation...focus on the crowd not the camera. Even Trump knew that while speaking at his rally. And maybe it's a black thing. Black pastors, civil right leaders, poets, spoken word lovers, and R&B singers speak with their whole body. Geez, I work in tech in silicon valley and my team always give me kudos for my presentations. There is an old saying in the American Black community: Speak it into existence with your whole body & soul. Great job, Amanda!❀

I remember going into an interview and explaining something, and using my hands, to explain somethings, and found that the person sitting in front of me was stiff, and almost motionless. I was extremely qualified, and she explained that, but I found out from a friend that she did not like me using my hands in the interview. I was sadden, but the next increase made me 8k more in my current position, and I was going to take a paycut to get into this position which was a step down, and would have ended up costing me about 15k a year less. I told my friend to thank her for not choosing me.

She is perfect😍 when you are speaking poems you let the body language first, you can't stand firm to speak poems you must let the body to act.
We do everywhere in the world.
She is perfect and the whole world is congratulation her. She doesn't want to mad a mistake that why she wrote them on the note.

Good comments. She's 22 years old with a slight speech impediment and yet she killed it. Considering, I can't wait to continue to watch her grow intellectually. Emotionally, she's already there, fully evolved. She's Wonderful... So proud for her.

She is not just using hand jesters. She is using a ASL. Many spoken word artists/poets incorporate ASL into their performances.

I'm gonna jump right out with some blasphemy here....I remember Maya Angelou's speech and while her 'sound' was so commanding, I really didn't feel her words. This young woman was utterly mesmerizing, and every line spoke to my heart.
