  • We turned world's fastest press Smashinator 5 000 000 to soda bottle tossing catapult! We also launch mannequin with this world craziest teeter-totter. We also film the launch with Chronos 1.4 high speed camera so you can see how it works. Will the catapult be able to take full anger from Smashinator or will it break?

      It’s not that the grain was the wrong way, it’s as Badgermatt75 2016 said, it needs to be thinner on the sides (the width of the beam) and the height should remain the same. The same way an I beam would be installed.

    • @juststeve5542
      @juststeve5542 Před 4 lety +14

      and watch how the grain runs too, should have been rotated 90 degrees.
      A bit of steel bracing along the top edge should do it... Wood is better in compression than tension.
      Maybe even drill a hole through the whole length and then a plate and bolt on each end so the entire piece of log is under compression.

    Part of the problem on the second run is that the lever never got a chance to accelerate properly; it was hit by a piston that had already reached a high-energy state. Having the pivot and the Smashinator welded to the a large plate would fix it.

  • @eruiluvatar236
    @eruiluvatar236 Před 4 lety +14

    The spring steel one sounds like a great idea. If the ratio between the arms is big enough you might get things supersonic which would be incredible although I don't know what kind of setup would that take or if the crazy forces involved would be out of the possible even with steel. A movable pivot that is bolted to thick steel welded to the smashinator frame might be a good idea as you could play with that ratio instead of just with the pressure and it might be easier to hit higher speeds that way.

  • @Dr._Spamy
    @Dr._Spamy Před 4 lety +7

    Looks like the piston is traveling a long way until it hits the beam. Then the beam accelerates for some centimeters and that's it because the piston has lost most of its kinetic energy.
    I think it would be much better if the piston was in contact with the beam from the beginning somehow. Maybe with a smaller beam that stands on the larger one and protrudes into the cylinder.
    Of course it would add to the over all mass what would also be a downside...
    But the bottle would accelerate over a much longer way and the beam would not break as easy due to inertia because there wouldn't be as high energy peak. Would be worth a try I guess.
    Of course the whole smashinator should be fixed to the ground then too.
