All songs in Mamma Mia 1 & 2 are ABBA songs. Scripts were written around the songs. The stage show had been a smash hit worldwide for ten years or so before it got filmed.

You're welcome! Part of the reccomendation was the comparison to the original. So that's coming up. :)

Lay all your love on me, react to the original, probably ABBAs best disco beat, the drum beat is slaying.

There's a timeline at work as far as how this movie happened. 1992, the ABBA Gold compilation album was released worldwide, and it became a surprise smash everywhere, spurring on a huge ABBA revival (and it could be said they became more popular in the U.S. than they ever were when they were active), which was also helped by ABBA music being featured in films such as the Australian film Muriel's Wedding. In any event, renewed interest/rediscovery of ABBA led some theater producers to create a stage musical that used 20+ hits of theirs, telling a completely new story. When the stage show became a smash hit in London, Broadway, and everywhere else, then the next step? Make a movie version of the musical, as had been done with Grease, Dreamgirls, et al. Anyway, then the *movie* became a smash hit worldwide, and so 10 years after that, they made a sequel, using more ABBA hits that weren't in the first (though a couple of songs are repeated), that was completely original to the screen; it was *not* based on a stage show like the first was. As with the show, both movies are frothy, light, no-brainer fun, and the cast mostly does the songs justice (the exception being Pierce Brosnan, who murders, in *not* a good way, "S.O.S" and "When All is Said and Done"). I do think you'll appreciate Meryl Streep's rawly emotional performance of "The Winner Takes It All" near the end of the first film. She's not vocally perfect, but it fits the scene since she's acting the hell out of the heartbreak, like Agnetha used to do with her sad songs.

So, I’m impressed with your choices when it comes to Your ABBA selections and it’s great you are not limiting yourself with what you open up to. I only wish you would have listened to the original studio version which was included on the Super Trouper album and there are also some excellent extended and remixes versions AND then listen and watch this so would appreciate how much more driving and intense beat and bass kick while also being propelled forward with an incredible backing track. You will notice a HUGE difference

This rendition of the original ABBA song is quite good, but I recommend you whole hardly react to the original ABBA song; it is more intense.
