  • The Derby Works Ep3 - The Rolls-Royce Phantom III followed the Phantom I & II in 1936 and was the final large pre-war Rolls-Royce. It was also the only V12 Rolls-Royce until the 1998 introduction of the Silver Seraph.
The Phantom III featured in this video was imported from Japan and has spent nearly six months being worked on, part-time, by Al until the day I visited when it performed its first start in years. "A 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III featured prominently in EON Productions' 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger. In the film, bullion dealer Auric Goldfinger uses the vehicle to smuggle gold out of Britain. Notably, in the 1959 novel on which the film is based, Goldfinger instead uses a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost for the task."
The Alvis Speed 20 SB model being worked on by Paul is from 1936. It came to The Derby Works as a box of bits from Holland according to my tour guide Greg. Restoration at the workshop can be counted in years but the end is in sight with the body soon to return from the body shop.
The Rolls-Royce Camargue is without doubt more popular now than it has ever been. Just 531 were produced over a near decade long production run. Being the most expensive car available on the planet probably didn't help but the Pininfarina styled body was for this youngster in the 1970s at least was an abomination.
The spectacularly original Silver Dawn awaiting its owner was a credit to the three previuous owners whom had only covered 50 odd thousand miles in the 75 years since it rolled off the production line at Crewe.
Next door is a treasure trove of vintage metal from the Silver Ghost ute to the 4.9 litre MGB and one you definitely don't want to miss in the next episode.
Twice weekly visits to classic auto workshops featuring cars from the veteran to RADwood eras & including car restoration, rebuilds, repairs and restomods to anything from Aussie V8s, American muscle cars, Euro exotics, JDM, your coveted everyday runabout and more. If it's built before 1999, there's every chance I'll film it.
My name is Dave and I simply l love old cars and visiting workshops to chat to the people working on them. Added to that, I devour car content on youtube so I thought I'd join in and make some myself.
Hopefully you might like to come along for the journey as well.

Cracking vids Dave. Great to see all these small bespoke workshops around. You should do a tour of the other states as well.
