Check to see if your experience was with the NEWEST version of Beyond. They just rolled out version 3, and biggest changes are they removed the funny smell and aftertaste. (Haven't tried it yet myself.) That being said, I was a Beyond person until about a year ago when Impossible finally came to supermarkets and Burger Kind. I was hooked on Impossible from my first Whopper and unless there was an Impossible shortage in my area, not sure that I would ever go back to Beyond! Here in Brazil we only have the Beyond Meat that a single big supermarket is importing, and it's crazy expansive: almost R$100 (Reais), that is USD18.
BUT if they are getting closer to the expiration date there's a really hidden small market that sells it for R$12,00 (USD 2,21), so that was always how much I paid for it ! LOL!

doesn't have the pre-season flavor that it can better absorb other seasonings and sub out better. Also our Whole Foods here about 2 months ago started carrying the

I made the mistake of not checking out the cost of the stuff before getting the idea to try making a meatloaf for my boyfriend and I, since neither of us have had any for decades (I have been a vegetarian for 30 years, and he just never bothered to order it or make one himself, so he hadn’t had it since his mom made them when he was a kid).
I went to three different stores to get everything I needed (I still don’t have a fully stocked kitchen when it comes to seasonings and spices, so I had to load up on that with buying some of it at a bulk food store to get it cheaper, get special parmesan cheese that doesn’t have animal rennet in it from a specialty store, get my fresh produce at one store that has the freshest in town, etc etc) with the last store being the one to get the actual Beyond Meat product at....
My jaw hit the floor when I saw that it was $10.00 per pound! And the recipe I was cooking called for TWO POUNDS! I was already in too deep at that point with all the other ingredients I had bought, so I had to buy it and hope to god he wouldn’t kill me when he saw the receipt because it was his treat to buy the goods while I was the slave to cook the meal. ;)
All together, to cook a vegetarian Beyond Meat large as fuck 2 lb pound meatloaf, along with roasted potatoes and carrots and green beans cost us fucking $70! And that was with my already using my own eggs, butter, and milk and bread that I had at home, so I didn’t have to buy that stuff and include it in the cost of the meal.
Yes, a good portion was in buying large containers of seasonings like granulated onion and garlic that I know I will use more of for other things because buying small amounts of it is super cost ineffective (idk get what that is about though - all the different forms that shit comes in is mindblowing - powder, flakes, granulated, with salt and parsely, etc.... I honestly still don’t understand the diff between powder and granulated tbh), but still, $20.00 JUST for the fake flesh alone is fucking nutso.
I understand meat is subsidized with our tax dollars, so that is why it isn’t at least that much money or more too, but I will stick to my cheaper Gardenburger patties and MorningStar Farm products and make other meals from now on. It looks like the Beyond Meat burgers and sausages are just as crazy expensive in the market as their straight packaged “ground beef.”
But yeah, that experience was a bloody joke! I’d never do it again (plus, I didn’t even like it at all - I had to douse it in A1 sauce to cover the taste!). When my boyfriend was warming up the meatloaf after I brought it over to his house, he said it smelled like cat food! That was the last thing I wanted to hear of course, after all that shopping and cooking time I had put into it LOL! He said it tasted just like meatloaf though when he ate it. I didn’t like the flavor or the consistency - you are right that it is almost rubbery… It was squishy, like our lungs are haha (I was in a class in high school where we dissected a human cadaver, and when you squish on the lungs, air bubbles come out).

The Beyond(before their recent reformulation) smelled like catfood raw and stunk up the place when cooked. The Impossible does not have that stinky aroma
and just tasted better to me (more like real beef). However, the Beyond has made great strides, not nearly as stinky raw now, same when cooking, and tasted much
more like beef now. Since the Beyond doesn't use soy, they now have the upper hand, but I still think the Impossible tastes a little better, but they are both very good.

Some people like myself are allergic to pea protein but not soy.

@@yosefdemby8792 I can relate to that as I am actually allergic to tree nuts but not peanuts. Usually, it's the other way around.

@@jaykay6387 I'm allergic to tree nuts, peanuts, peas and even dairy. Don't worry. I get by fine.

Impossible is 100x better! I season my burgers with soy sauce, a1 and mustard before I form it into a patty. Also I started cooking the pre made patties in a pan with butter, seasoning, mushrooms and onion and eat it as a steak with mashed potatoes and green beans 😋

Many of us are looking to put meat, fish & dairy in the rearview mirror. It’s hard to know what vegan products are best without some help. So, yes! Definitely keep going with this format. Thank you so much!

If you can ever get your hands on a Moving Mountains burger (from the UK but also available in other countries) it's so good! Like beyond, it's seasoned but I think it's smokier and the base is mushrooms as far as I know and so good. I haven't tried impossible because it's not available where I live but beyond is among the top for sure!
