The disrespect
I remember in middle school I slept on the bus and missed my drop off. The bus driver wasn't too happy with me.
Newbie driver here. Officially a year in this week. Retired big rig driver of 25 years and absolutely love how your spreading the word about us bus drivers. I have a greater appreciation for this job then I did driving long haul. Absolutely love the kids on my routes and they've changed my life for the better! Keep up the good work! (Texas Leadership Charter Academy school Abilene,Tx)
I am contemplating doing long haul or bus driving. I wouldnt say i have a fear of heights but driving my regular car near a sheer cliff does freak me out and i cant imagine doing it in a semi with winds. Not to mention driving back east or dealing with those road conditions. But the idea of long drives early mornings and sleeping in the truck sound so appealing! But i think i will start with a school buss to get the hang of driving a large vehicle then move from there.
I'm also an ex long haul driver. I started driving the bus in 2019. It's a good union job with good pay and benefits

Wow, i didnt realize how much time and effort goes into driving a school bus, this makes me appreciate my bus driver so much more.
8:48 That puts your bus in high idle cleaning out your Dissel Particulate Filter or DPF. Every 300 miles, depending on the vehicle you might want to do a park regen. However, if you ignore the DPF message overtime the performance of the bus will degrade to prevent damage to the engine.

Bus drivers are so under appreciated they literally keep the kids safe. Thank you for keeping kids safe and thank you for doing what you do
Fellow school bus driver!!! I'm glad to see another driver so enthusiastic about their job. I have been driving for over 5 years and have absolutely loved it! I'll probably retire a bus driver. I have driven for a special needs school with a wheelchair bus, a bilingual Ukranian school and a special needs route at a public school in a small bus and all of the kids have been amazing, even though there were hiccups every now and then. I also save money on daycare because my kid can come with me to work!
A lot of the time, your demeanor, your attitude and your interaction with the kids can influence how the kids treat you. There will always be misbehaving kids, but if you treat them with respect, most of them will treat you with respect back, at least in my experience.
You, sir, definitely seem like a guy the kids would enjoy interacting with but can be firm if rules are being broken. I'm glad you enjoy being a driver.
Omg you make me want to work as a bus driver!! I love to drive and I realize that I want to drive also a bus! From Canada.
I start training for my school bus driver career next week! You gave me a good clue on what I should expect when I start! Hopefully I get to drive a bus like yours it actually seems nice.
Wow if only kids knew/ could understand what a hero you and other school.bus drivers are! đ
There are many documentaries about how tough the school buses are, but we rarely see documentaries about how much effort the drivers put in just to drive the kids to and from school. Thank you for keeping the kids safe and on time, youâre literally doing godâs work.
Yes school bus driving is not as easy as it looks. We have to contend with some crazy drivers out there. And we have to be better than them. For our kids and ourselves.

I'm working now on getting my CDL to drive a Pinellas County, Fl school bus. I had NO IDEA how much is involved to be prepared and qualified to drive a school bus. The park regen button is used to clean the diesel engines DPF (diesel particulate filter) by heating up the exhaust and burning away the stuff that builds up on it over time

Iâm 1000% sure my old bus provider for my district didnât do this , because like 80% of the busses are broke down at one point at different degrees of badness
Bus drivers are totally unappreciated. When I was in school, I always appreciated my bus drivers. I would even give them a gift for Christmas and Valentineâs Day. Thank you to every bus driver out there! Without you we wouldnât be able to go to school, especially for those where parents canât take you
8:42 The parked regen switch is for if your DPF light is on, steady or flashing. If the DPF light is solid on, you can either drive the bus at normal speeds and it will do an automatic regen as you are driving (no driver intervention required) or you can initiate a parked regen. If the light is flashing, you must do a parked regen. Yes it does take a while to do, but it definitely saves drivers from having to pull over and shut the bus off because eventually, the red stop engine light will come on if the DPF is full and no regen is done. To do a parked regen, the DPF light must be on or flashing, you must have the parking brake set, and the transmission must be in either neutral or park. Hope this helps!
As far as the inhibit regen switch, that prevents the DPF from doing its job (stops all automatic regens) and should never be left on when driving. Only use this switch when parking in areas where there is a risk of fire.
Just stumbled on to this channel. Dude seems very chill and takes a lot of pride in his work. Good stuff.
This is like a Air Force pilot checking their plane before takeoff.
The Regen button is short for "regeneration". Modern school buses are equipped with a diesel particulate filter, or DPF. If you have ever seen a school bus driving down the road and it starts to smoke a lot from the exhaust, one likely culprit is a clogged DPF. Running the engine hot is a way of burning off the excess carbon in the filter. The bus will automatically try to complete the regen, but on some buses, there is a button (similar to the one you showed) that says "Regen Inhibit" or something like that. That button will stop the regen process to stop the smoke from coming out of the bus. Its best not to interupt the process, because it just causes more smoke in the long run.
You did a fantastic job of explaining the day in the life of a bus driver. You would make an awsome trainer. Been driving for 7 years and always look forward to your videos. Don't forget that you need to keep the bus clean inside too. Peace Bro.

parked regen is for the emissions system for your bus, if you click that button it will force the bus to clear the "diesel particulate filter" while parked, usually it happens while you are driving down the highway. probably a button for the mechanic to press but now you have a better idea of what it is

Trucker here. Parked regen is when the dpf filter gets clogged the bus will idle very high to burn the soot in the dpf filter. If you do lots of driving it should do itself but if not the bus will inform you that it needs a regen and youâll have to stop the bus for every bit of 45 min and let the truck regen if not itâll derate on you and youâll have to take it to a shop so someone can manually override the system and force it to regen.
In case anyone was wondering, to be a school bus driver, you have to have: A CDL, A Bus License, and a School Bus Endorsement
It varies state to state if i drive a short bus all i need is a regular driverâs license in vt
Is it the same in Pennsylvania. If so then my dad has all three
Missouri: Class B CDL, School Bus endorsement, and Passenger endorsement.
Please excuse my ignorance but what is a "bus license"? Here where i drive we need the Class B (Heavy, Straight Truck) C.D.L., the School Bus Endorsement and the Passenger Endorsement to drive school buses. But every state is different. My cousin in texas says you need what i mentioned plus C.P.R. training and classes every 6 weeks. Thanks in advance for any explanation.
My bad for the confusion, a class B with a passenger endorsement. I kept it vague since requirements vary state to state.
My dad is a bus driver and he works so hard and has some good stories from it he recently fought COVID and was in the hospital for 2 weeks and is working again
I'm truly happy that he is okay and back to work. I also had it but I didn't have to go to the hospital for it or anything other than the doctors office.
I love the Christmas stuff on the bus, and just in general I want to say, not only school bus drivers but all kind of public transport drivers (tram, train, bus, etc.) Have my full respect.
School bus driver for special needs kids and adults here. On my bus is a wheel chair lift. There is training for that. Both myself and my attendant/Matron are well versed in it's use.
There's also tie downs (ratcheting type) to hold the wheel chair (s) in place during the transport phase of the route. The Matron is an integral part of the team. That person is trained in CPR etc. In short the welfare of our passengers. This leaves me to focus on the operation of my bus.
We love our jobs!! And I have to say we do get a lot of respect for what we do on a daily basis.
Considering that transporting special needs individuals is a bit of a challenge. Our team is good with it.
Great video and keep up the good work!! Be well and stay safe.
By the way you mentioned New Jersey. I had a run for a few years going from Staten Island to Lakewood, NJ. We'd drop off our passengers, head back home and return in the afternoon to bring our people home safe and sound. I loved that run. Good people.

True story: in grade school I was riding the bus home when it accidentally ran over a kid with the back tire.
It didn't kill him either which was amazing. It broke his leg, but he eventually walked again.
Kid kind of deserved it. He only got hit because he was chasing after the bus to get to the next stop so he could bully another kid. He slipped on the curb and went under.
Bus driver was old but really nice. He looked horrified when we all shouted that he'd just hit a kid.
One time on my bus a kid almost fell under the tire because he wanted a stuffed animal

Amazing work Clawboss. I tried to explain your channel to someone and they looked at me like I was crazy (school buses?). Then they watched one video and are now hooked.
The "parked regen" switch is for regeneration of the Diesel Particulate Filter. Basically, it will high idle the engine and may inject extra shots of fuel on the exhaust stroke to get the catalyst up to a temperature that will clean out the soot in the DPF. Can take about 20-60 minutes, but is very important to do at certain intervals
Yea, was gonna explain this but figured SOMEBODY else would have. Suprised that it wasnt explained to drivers, you know, so its not on every time they are parked.
So itâs used to warm up the engine faster? Gotcha
This video is amazing not only for bus safety but shows us what bus drivers go through. The small windows popping out is something my school districts doesnât teach which should be taught as well as the front window. i dont normally ride the bus, but if this dude was supposed to be my bus driver, heâd see me every day.
The park regen is for emission purposes, usually this consists of a higher idle which creates higher exhaust gas temp, this helps prevent the DPF filters from being plugged up from the diesel particulate, usually if you drive long enough everytime you start up the bus it should burn off the particulate on its on
