    The scream in ptolemaea is the most gut wrenching feeling, of overwhelming pain and suffering. I broke down in tears the first time I heard it.

      I was terrified when I first heard it, because I’ve never heard anything like Ptolemaea before and her making those faces in the visualizer didn’t help either lol. But even after I told myself that I wouldn’t listen to it anymore, I still kept doing and it got stuck in my head. That feeling of ‘fear’ from the song since long faded away. And now it’s my second favorite on the album

    • @VincentAFH
      @VincentAFH Před rokem +6

      Strangers gave me a mix of emotions but “I tried to be good, am I no good?” Made me emotional due to the fact it reminded me of all of my past/failed relationships especially the one which was almost a year ago now since it’s ended, he betrayed me.(I’m gay btw) and “With my memory restricted to a polaroid in evidence” got to me as well

    I was a victim of childhood s/a and I have some religious trauma I’m also trans masc non-binary and the character in this and the creator are trans too so I relate to this album so much and it absolutely breaks me especially my first time listening, the line “god loves you but not enough to save you” made me sob because that’s how I felt when I was little. Yup. Pretty much my reaction on first listen. Hayden/Ethel is such a master storyteller and has said that Preacher's Daughter explored all the dark ways she felt her life could have gone had she not been careful. Get ready for more of her because she's got the Willoughby EP coming out later this year (which has some lovely demos floating around) and then the next two albums dive further into Ethel's lineage and generational trauma

    Omg I have listened to Ptolemaea for the first time today. I cant even remember how it came up in my suggested watch list but it got me curious. Then I went down the rabbit hole reading comments and looking it up then watching reaction videos. Yours by far has been my fave. I literally cried with you. Your cat, is beautiful. I love how you got the songs pretty quickly and how you felt them deeply, as did I. I grew up being shamed and controlled by the church and my hypocritical mother. That and so many other things caused trauma and I believe music like this, although it is downright scary at times, it's healing too. Hayden/Ethel has such a unique hypnotic ethereal voice that just captures you and whisks you away on a haunting roller-coaster ride. I hope you cover more of these types of albums. Hayden has said that Ethel is an “unreliable narrator” of her own story. They put a lot of work into building a universe for Preacher’s Daughter, and one element was a missing poster for Ethel. She spent her life just wanting to be loved by a man, so she recollects the Thoroughfare encounter as a great romance…but the truth is darker. She was actually kidnapped by Isaiah, and whether it be drugs or Stockholm Syndrome, how she recalls the story isn’t reality. As you said this sounds like a happy song… which makes it heartbreaking when you know the truth.

    Ohhh American teenager is certainly not radio-friendly. I mean it could be, but it is deceptively so. The music feels peppy and upbeat. The lyrics, the lyrics are another story.

      I didn’t skip anything, I just edited parts of the video out due to me taking out my septum due to irritation. Or me adjusting in my seat and hitting the microphone. Sorry I edited you favorite parts out of the video. 💔

    You reeeeeally have to adjust the noise reduction levels of your mic and/or audio. You never ever want to have your noise reduction so high that the moment you stop speaking, the sound completely drops. It clips you off, and it’s the worst for audio to make it so that the level is 0db once that super high setting for noise ends. It’s the WORST to have audio totally drop out completely when not speaking. For headphones users especially, it gives the feeling of your ears continuously being plugged and unplugged as you speak. It is maddening. There should ALWAYS be a level of white noise underneath. Never set the level to 0.

      I’ve had my new dynamic mic for like 3 weeks.
      I’m still learning how to get the best sound from this mic. It’s very sensitive. It picks up the wind from my ceiling fan.
      I’ll keep that in mind. I have a lot of software I’m working with and it takes a lot of patience to learn it all. Thanks for your feedback.
