For some reason Evie and Walter is making me think of lines from the movie version of 'Jamaica Inn' (the Alfred Hitchcock movie from the 30s) even though it has nothing in common with this movie:
"Drowned a hundred sailors to do it, but living like a prince. And I'll make a princess out of you."
    and
"I believe you're sorry you're not marrying some oaf, who'd father on you a dozen snivelling, dirty-nosed brats. Any man of sensibility would rather see you dead first."
Slight spoiler summary, the man saying that is always gong on the fact that he's a gentleman in a big house and the woman he's saying these things to is very beautiful which is why apparently it'd be better that she be dead then living the life of a regular woman. Somehow I can see Walter saying those things. The woman in the movie's in no better position then Evie is here.
