    I got to meet Jess at Folly beach in SC Tuesday! I recognize her voice before I even looked up! She was so sweet! We talked for a bit while in line for the changing rooms haha! My kids were bored while mommy was being a fan girl! I’m sure I started speaking Spanglish at one point! I do when I get nervous.

    When I was growing up, anything we didn’t know what to do with - whether food ingredient, an item or an inanimate issue - the answer would always be “put it in the curry”. This would include leftovers, an argument or even an odd sock! 😂
    (Dad worked in India for a while. He saw what went into curries. Anything goes)

    I just told my husband today that I was deciding if I should keep my pepper plants in. I have harvested more than enough and they are on overdrive. I decided to let them stay and donate to my church or local food bank. It’s a great problem to have.

    I *just* picked my first two tomatoes TODAY! So you can imagine how shocked I was to hear that your tomato plants are done! That’s crazy! Zone 6a/b SW Pennsylvania, tomatoes are just starting to blush. Each of my tomatoes I picked today were 13.5 oz and I’m SO excited! My plants are 6ft tall and are at the end of my trellis 😅 never thought they would get that tall! I’ve never seen anyone around her with tomatoes that tall, it’s crazy! This is my first garden, I did grow up with my parent’s gardening, but it’s different having my own garden.

      Hey Jess, my little was hoping you would have some in youth sizes and she always quotes you with the store bought tomatoes are disappointed and was hoping those would have the large portion on the front Aswell :) any chance you guys are working on youth sizes?

    hi jess here in the philippines bitter gourd is called ampalaya and we often stir fry it with eggs. to reduce the bitterness what we do in the household is sprinkle salt on the sliced gourds let it set for a while then squeeze out the water. slicing it thin helps too. we also sometimes make it into like a quick pickle with vinegar and sugar. it's said to be good in lowering blood sugar. have fun! 👍😻

    Yes, PLEASE show us how you root your strawberry runners. It's seemed simple enough, but I've only had about a 30 per cent success rate. I'm obviously missing something. Thanks, Jess!

      I use a hardware staple to hold the runner against the soil and let baby plant set roots when it’s ready. I have around 30 plants now. I started with 6.

      ​@@amyfreedomluvr5277I've even used thin twigs that I bent/partly broke into a garden staple shape. Even a ^ shape will help hold them down to the soil. Some people use a small rock to do the job. I've done them all. As long as the baby crown can sit on the soil, they will root. They'll try to make roots even if they aren't on the soil; they just won't make it where they need to go. Leave them on the soil a good month to six weeks (and check that the roots resist it being pulled up) before cutting it loose to plant somewhere new.

    Garden is slow to develop this year in the Mid Atlantic! Probably due to the lack of sun from the Canadian wildfires. Tomatoes are just starting to blush, corn is just starting to tassel. Beans are coming on strong. Squash and cukes doing well. Just harvested onions yesterday and planted turnips in their place. Life is good, even in trying times!

    I’m in NW KS, zone 5b. My home is an apartment, so I have a container garden on my patio. I have 1 cherry and 3 Jet Star tomatoes that are finally ripening. Tips like hand pollination and regular fertilizer made a big difference this year! I was sick all spring, but warm weather came late this year anyway, so I bought some plants instead of starting them from seed. I have 2 bell, 1 jalapeño, and 1 shishito pepper( for fun!) along with a collection of herbs and flowers. I set out a water bowl and enjoy bird watching from my easy chair! Your channel and others’ have taught this old lady how to garden and actually reap a harvest. Keep educating us, we love learning from such an enthusiastic teacher ❤

      I’m in ne KS! I have lots of green tomatoes but none are blushing yet! The weather has been so weird here this year! The last two weeks were hot hot hot! Up to 113° F! Final,y cooling down but the humidity is still so thick!

    Every year I would run out of steam in July re: tending to the garden … until I found your videos.
    Watching you every morning would keep me “invested” and last year was the best garden I ever had and I had (at 64 years old) finally became a gardener.

    I live in the Pacific Northwest. My problem is most things look really good and are still producing, but I have to start planting fall crops before it is too late, and I need more room.

    I read someone else did this to prevent squash bugs, so I tried it this year with amazing success!
    1. Stake the plants
    2. Keep lower leaves trimmed off
    3. Cut up onions/green onions (I have prolific stands of bunching onions that just keep producing every year as I divide them, so I just pull out some big ones and cut from root to tip)
    4. Mulch with the cut onions around the base of each squash plant
    It's worked really well!

      I only got a few summer squash because of them, but I planted again for a fall harvest and I’ll try this.

      Thank you! I read in a Ruth Stout book to spread wood ash around the base of the plants. Others have said sprinkle cinnamon on and around the plant, seemed to work then I misplaced my cinnamon and they came back for a visit unfortunately ;) I will try the onion mulch!

    I'm in NW Arizona zone 8b and I grow my tomatoes in a high tunnel with 40% shade cloth and they still stopped producing because of the heat but monsoon season is here now and they are starting to grow again. Okra is new to me and doing great here in the full sun and I love the flowers! I tried cowpeas because of you! I just planted more for our fall garden. So many issues with the squash bugs so yes, I plant them every few weeks and it's working well. I'm looking forward to a fall and winter garden. So much easier with less pest pressure and cooler temps plus more rain. 👩‍🌾🥰🙏

    I love bitter melons! I usually cut them half and remove all the seeds. Then slice them thin and shape like a half circle. And then i saute them with garlic, onion tomato. Add some fried tofu or fried cubed pork belly pieces. Add a little oyster sauce and chilli garlic. Delicious!!
    Some people soak them with a little salt before cooking... to mellow down the bitterness.

      We cut bitter gourd and remove seeds and put cooked ground beef and chicken in it. I don't know the full recipe

    My tomatoes are finally starting to blush. If I see any big enough I pick them and let them finish changing in order to have any this year. The chickens keep eating them while they are green. Next year we will fence them in. Maybe every garden.
    I planted 14 cabbage transplants and my chickens ate all of them. I'm so upset
    My peppers (bell) never grew.
    I'm making Tabasco sauce for the first time this year. My poor husband was hiccuping and sniffling for at least an hour.
    I love baseball and softball. Volleyball I lettered in in highschool. My favorite is baseball

    The only time I shell dried peas is when one hides and gets dry. I always pick my blackeyed peas, purple hulls, cream peas etc when the pod is full but still green. If you let them die on the plant it signals the plant that it's done its job and it starts to die. If you pick them green, they taste so much better than dried peas. As well as they keep producing for harvest after harvest. Weeks and weeks.

      @BootsandBountyHomestead I grow for quantity too. But I just flat don't like dried peas to eat. They have no flavor. I think that's why alot of people don't like blackeyed peas. It's because they've never had them fresh and green.

      I grow mostly blackeyed peas, because, to me they are so much easier to shell than purple hulls and cream peas. But I like em all. I have some pink eyed purple hull seeds I saved from being gifted a sack of peas from my aunt's garden. I just saved the one's that were starting to be dried out, and shelled the rest to eat/can.
      Yeah even the canned peas they sell in the stores are dried peas cooked and canned. People that don't grow their own just don't know how good fresh ones are. lol

    I planted fall carrots and beans those are the veggies I love the most. My peppers are booming, I've only harvested a few tomatoes and they seem stunted this year. We got affected by the smoke from Canada and that has affected the garden. Still getting some things and I'm grateful for that.

    Cincinnati Reds fan over here. We are looking pretty good this year. I appreciate how you take us along to look at how your garden is doing.
    I have a lot of pest pressure, squirrels eating my green tomatos, rabbits eating my bean as soon as they sprout, deer eating the sweet potato vines. But if I get anything, I count it as a win, because a little is better than none.

    If you do a fall harvest tomato crop consider planting the pink berkeley tye dye from wild boar farms. They were bread to withstand the cool bay area fog that rolls into bay and berkeley area out here in California (I live about 2 hours north of there) and these are always my last tomatos in the garden. They literally last from march or April all the way til it freezes in the 1st or 2nd week of December!

    Jess, use the LEAVES of bitter melon as a last minute addition to soups. Delicious in lemon chicken or other light summer soups. And white bitter melon is a better fruit for cooking. But it's the leaves we use most.

    While it's been extremely dry here in mid Missouri we've finally started getting rain for which I'm so very thankful! My tomatoes and peppers are coming on, cantaloupe, blackberries, carrots, sweetcorn right now❤️

    Zone 5b - Our garden is just gearing up its production. Pulled all the garlic three weeks ago, a bunch of cucumbers today, along with a few tomatoes and shishitos. So much more to come!

    Here in Oklahoma my garden is slowing down but I am still getting tomatoes, peppers, squash, cantaloupe, cucumbers, okra, and green onions. I have corn, sweet potatoes and jelly melon that aren't ready yet but are going strong too. It is amazing that anything is still growing since it was 106° today in the shade.

    Here in Central NY state August is our 'high season' when we are harvesting everything! Sweet corn, summer squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. Basically every warm season plant you can think of- this is it's time! Pray for me and my fall gardening endeavors. Even if all I end up with is lettuce and winter squash I'll be happy

    Where I'm at in NC, I'm waiting for my tomatoes to blush. Had a late start but WOW! My eggplant , my beans , summer squash, cucumbers and peppers are thriving and this is the healthiest and most pest free my garden has been 💚💚💚

    I just harvested and processed 19 pounds of tomatoes today, I've got bushels of peppers, okra, cucumbers, amd a second round of cukes, maters, squash and peppers that I planted about a month ago. My tomatoes that are doing the best are near the house where they get more shade, so i bet if you can get that shadecloth up, yours will keep producing. Its always a joy to visit your garden!

    I started growing food in 2020 and I’ve been hooked ever since. My first baby was born in January of this year, so I knew that my garden would look a little different this season. It has been really challenging to juggle garden tasks on top of caring for a baby. There have been many days when I felt defeated and overwhelmed. But the thing is, my garden just keeps on giving back to me anyway. We’ve had an abundance of tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, and beans. My dahlias look so good that I’m thinking of entering them in a show. I am so glad that I decided to plant a garden this year, even though the cards were stacked against me. It really is amazing what God will provide for you if you just have a little faith. Thank you for you words of encouragement, Jess. This really is the good life.

    Bitter Melon..amazing for diabetes. Steam and serve cooled with fresh onion and tomatoes. It helps cut the bitterness. Freeze dry or dehydrate for tea blends. Powder and add to smoothies. Also was the number 1 recommendation to help with Alzheimers. My moms doctor (chinese medicine) told me to make sure she ate it daily or drank it in tea. I honestly believe it helped her last longer than she would've on conventional medicine which she also had a team of doctors up until her passing.

    I'm still waiting for my tomatoes to ripen... harvesting 6-7 squash everyother day (w/ just 8 plants)...now planting some fall vegetables (tomorrow). This will be my first attempt w/ a fall harvest. Curious and excited. :)

    You have plenty on your hands at the moment, but if you want something meditative like shelling peas in the "quiet" season, you can't beat spinning 🙂

    I have 8 raised beds and 3 greenstalks. It’s been so miserably hot here that all of the green beans, purple beans, kale sugar snap peas, and pretty much everything but tomatoes have dried up and died. I just got new seed to plant a fall “crop” hope it’s better. ❤ you are such an inspiration and amazing soul, Jess. I hope that when I grow up, I’m half as amazing as you. ❤❤

    47 days over 100 here inTucson! Garden looks crispy. 106 today and 110-111 this weekend! I’m planning a fall garden end of September. Hoping for better weather! I have ordered seeds. Love brassicas! You are so fortunate to still be harvesting!

    Best tomato & bell pepper plants I have grown, no big gardener ,I'm battling cancer,but growing just a few plants,is therapeutic ! Four plants at one time, just before they started turning, had well over a hundred tomatoes, seemed like every bloom set fruit!

    I'm not sure it's the same type of bittermelon, but we ate them young and tender. Deseed them, scoop out some of the inner flesh that is more bitter, and slice into large-ish pieces, soak it in ice water, and just eat it with peanut butter.

    Your so lucky to be in your second harvest. I’m still waiting for my first! I’m in Connecticut, and we are a month behind! I have tons of green tomatoes, lots of started cucumbers, ( I have picked 4 so far). still flowering beans, peppers, zucchini, honey nut squash and another squash. My basil is doing great!

    We haven’t barely even begun to harvest yet. We’re zone 4a here in SW Montana, and I have 1 spoon tomato and 1 habanero almost ready to pick. Zucchini are producing well. Beans never set blossoms, so I’m going to try replanting in the greenstalk. It’s been a weird growing season up here.

    It's beginning to look a lot like Spring here in the subtropics of Queensland, Australia.
    The snowpeas, beans, rocket, silverbeet, early tomatoes, kales are giving... lettuces are doubling in size overnight!
    The mulberries are leafing out and fruit forming, mangoes have flowered and are beginning to fruit out.... passionfruit is by the basket right now, citrus is all year round, but the sweetest fruits are the overnight chilled ones.
    The goose has started laying and all the chickens are busy giving more than the neighbours and i can manage 😂
    I'm patiently waiting on the tropical peach to bloom, and the banana bunches to ripen... couple of weeks and we'll be swimming in deliciousness ❤️

      Hey Jacq! I'm about 4 hours north of you, more Central Coast Qld, however yes, you can grow all year, especially close to the coast.
      Check out a few of the Community gardens in your area to get some local knowledge of what grows when, and what does well in what season. You have so many thriving growing communities nearby, you'll learn a heap!
      The only time i DON'T spend a lot of time intentional growing is Jan/Feb/March.... except in low tunnels under bug wxclusion net. I do start my autumn garden seedlings mid to late March for planting out in April, as well as garlic and onions for harvest late Spring. I plant fruiting trees all year bar probably Jan/Feb unless it's a cool wet summer.
      We live in perfect growing regions... happy connecting with other permies/community gardeners 🌻

    Same story here in Denver! Very cool and wet spring and much cooler summer so far. Everything is weeks behind, but otherwise seemingly healthy. Not sure we'll get anywhere near our usual harvest, but we'll certainly get some food. Word is we may have an early frost, so this could be one of the shortest seasons I've had in 12 years of gardening. It's been a very odd season, but as a gardener, we make do with what we get and always plan and look forward to the next season.

    I'm in the Kansas City MO area, and my garden is just now starting to produce tomatoes. I had surgery scheduled in late June, so I purposely planted tomatoes out in the garden just before my surgery date so I had plenty of time to recover before much pruning, trellising, and harvesting was needed. I just got my first ripe Sungold cherry tomato a couple days ago though, so we'll be rolling in tomatoes soon! I have been getting lots of green beans, zucchini, and cucumbers so far, and the watermelons and cantaloupes are just now ripening as well. The acorn squash will be ready to harvest in the next couple weeks, which is good because the squash bugs and powdery mildew is starting to knock those plants back a bit. It'll be time to sow the fall round of snow/sugar snap peas sometime this week!

      The over night temps have been to high for the tomatoes to turn….. as soon as they blush pick ‘em bring them in where it’s cooler they turn. Not to far down the road from you 😊

    I got a late start because I was building a garden space. I am just now starting to bring food in, even though it's rather small amounts. I am ok with that because I know the hardest part of the work is done for building and next year I can just grow.

    Bless you sweet Jess. I have a small raised bed and three 15 gallon pots with tomatoes. I was able to bring in three tomatoes that were already blushing, but it has been over 100-104 here, so I do have some shade cloth on them and it has really helped. I took cuttings and they have lots of roots, so I’m going to replant. I should have enough time being in Southeast Texas to possibly get a few more tomatoes. At least one could hope. Back in 2018 I believe, when I found your channel, I remember how watching your channel really encouraged me to at least try. You still do that Jess and I thank you for that.     Up here in Montana I’m about to start harvesting the first tomatoes! The zucchini is done, but I’m still getting cucumbers, purple beans, green beans, bell peppers, jalapeños, and I grew OKRA! the okra is only a foot tall. But it’s making pods! I just harvested a bunch of fennel.
    It’s my first vegetable garden and it’s going great! Probably because I watched a lot of R&R last winter 😊

    Tomorrow I will harvest my first Cherokee purple tomato. I started in the ground from seed in May and while everyone around me has tons of tomatoes finishing and rotting on the vine my season is just beginning. It’s about when they are planted as much as it is about the heat. Remember you had a slow start too with some of your tomatoes! Put up that shade cloth, give a top dressing of compost and you will have tomatoes until the frost like me!! (Had them come in till first week in November one year and all I needed was to water through the heat of summer)
    My thoughts are on slow and steady removing weeds for the seeds of fall and winter garden going in. I had broccoli January till April this year from starts planted in October. My favorites besides tomatoes is anything that loves the cold and takes the frost like a champ- I joke that I am a frost hearty heat tender plant!!

    I am in north central South Dakota and I am just getting crookneck squash and zucchini. I am harvesting cherry tomatoes, Aunt Molly's ground cherries and a variety of peppers. Just brought my first crookneck squash in on Sunday and today was my first zucchini. It's starting! I have had herbs for a while and beans. We had grasshoppers last year and now again this year. I have decided so far to just co-exist with them.

    It's finally our first whole week in the 70's. Still 50's at night. I have a tiny garden of 8 greenstalks, two small raised beds and ity bity wooded backyard. So far, I've harvested a little basil, tons of lemon balm mint, a few peas and a couple salads worth of greens. The slugs and rollie pollies are stuffed, feeding on my seedlings and sunflowers. I've found at least 3 types of caterpillars... crossing fingers and toes for some beans, taters and squash.

    For deterring squash bugs, plant nasturtium, catnip, garlic, onions, radishes, marigolds, calendula, or dill interplanted around them.

    I am still harvesting everything. Tomatoes, squash,peppers,beans and cucumbers. I have some egg plant coming on and started some corn 3 weeks ago. Okra is just getting going good. I am in Georgia so I still have at least 90 more days whete I am.

    Happy that the tomatoes are still producing.
    I saw a video where a lady wrapped toile around the base if the plant.
    We have a AAA ball club 30 minutes up the road. We have good time any time we get to go.
    My tomatoes all but 1 plant with 2 tomatoes are done. My one Black berry is done for the season. I got a Ton of fruit and got it frozen. going to make some jelly with it, and some Strawberry Jam.
    I'm going to amend my 2 above ground beds and my Green stalk for the fall.
    And a little later will trim the fruit trees and black berry bush.

    Here in Oklahoma, hubby and I are harvesting tons of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, okra, green beans, black-eyed peas, and red noodle beans. Our zucchini and yellow squash have slowed down, but we planted more, and they have tiny squash just coming on. Oh my word, I think we have had a HUNDRED pounds in Armenian cucumbers!! They are great, FAST growing, and very versatile! We have lots of herbs and zinnias, too. Our kale and collards have lasted all summer, which is unusual, especially since it was 106 degrees here today!! Looking forward to getting the fall crops going this week. Happy Gardening!! :)

    I’m from south Alabama. It’s over 90 here almost daily. Rain is sparse. My tomatoes are still producing somehow lol. I get a cucumber every few days but the plant is tired. My squash is slow but still giving me a little. Okra and peppers are extremely happy.

    I got all the harvest that I needed from my garden, so I’m in the works of cleaning out the garden beds. It hurts! Lol
    I’m not ready for the Summer garden to be over. This break will give me a little more time to plan the Fall garden.
    All I’m waiting on is cantaloupe.

    I strongly encourage Ben to become a St. Louis Cardinals fan! They’re second only to the Yankees in World Series wins and Missouri and Arkansas share a boarder, so it’s practically his home team already!! Finally, this year is likely to be the first year in a long time that we haven’t made the playoffs. We’re in a rebuilding phase, so it’s a super awesome time for a new fan to join the cards club!     I live in a small apartment and have a little balcony where I garden. I have a 3-tier GreenStalk that I got last Autumn and used for the first time this year. It has strawberries (Honeyoke or something like that, and another kind that I can't recall) but they seem to be done even though the other kind was everbearing. The GreenStalk also has several cherry tomato plants, most of which I grew from seed (honeycomb, I think they're called. I'm a big Winnie the Pooh fan and dream of someday having a themed WTPB garden but for now the closest I get is buying whatever has "honey" in the name :) ) as well as one Sweet 100 plant. The Honeycomb plants are producing more prolifically. I'm very pleased with that since the past two years I had two big tubs and several small pots all with various plants and while they grew into a jungle on my balcony they didn't bear any fruit. I had to remove the tubs to make room for the GreenStalk, but still have two medium pots and each has a slicer tomato in it. One is Cherokee Purple and the other is German Striped (or something like that), I picked them because of their looks and because my family has both German and Cherokee ancestry and I thought it'd be fun to buy plants with that in their names. The German Striped does have a cute little tomato on it right now. I was surprised to discover it the other day. It's hardly larger than a plum tomato right now and I'm not sure it'll get much bigger before ripening. But I'm looking forward to finally tasting that variety. I tried growing it last year and it didn't produce any fruit. I used different soil this year and have been much more consistent with watering, so I think that's helped. I'm on the fifth floor, though, and I do wonder if that makes it more difficult for the plants because it seems to be hotter up here than on ground level sometimes. Especially with the full sun in the mornings.

    I was in the garden when this video uploaded. I came in and said to my husband “I’m done, get the tractor out”. I’m SO ready for the fall garden! I love my summer veggies, but this summer season is my first juggling more (family things) than I’ve had to in the past. I’ve never been more ready for the fall garden!

      I love my spring/summer veggie garden too. But this year, it's been so blasted hot, 100 plus since the first of June, I am done with it. I'm ready to strike a match and watch it burn! Except we have a burn ban, so can't do that right now lol
      I'm ready for cabbage, collards, kale, lettuce, onions, carrots, all the cold weather crops.

    I'm still harvesting tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and some zucchini and yellow squash. I just succession planted some more zucchini and green bean seedlings. I also planted some Asian leafy greens. Those were direct sown seeds.

    those bittergourds are so yummy fermented with onions garlic and carrots in apple cider vinegar and sugar! just make sure you slice the bittergourds and wash and soak them in lots of salt before fermenting them

    PNW Willamette Valley here. We go from too cold to plant out tomatoes to too hot for fruit set pretty quickly. My tomatoes don't get going till later this month,and I often have them producing into October. I just baby them along and they eventually start producing. Considering shade cloth for next season.

    My garden is like yours (here in SC 8a) except I didn't let my basil flower so I'll have tons to make pesto with. I've got a steady production of tomatoes which have mostly been under shade cloth and Suyo Long cucumbers and a whole bunch of different kinds of peppers are going wild... and eggplants are slowly getting going. Last year, even though they had to contend with flea beetles in another spot, the eggplants did better. They were also a different variety. I think I've been providing too much shade for them in some cases. I left a lot of info on bitter melon in the video you did when you first brought it up.
    My squash plants were volunteers that came out of composted food wastes from squash I bought over the winter in the grocery store and then fermented using the Bokashi food composting method. Adding this compost to the garden resulted in hundreds of volunteer seedlings which I mostly pulled up but let a few grow and it turns out the zucchinis crossed with the butternut squash. They are the shape of a butternut squash but have the coloring and markings of zucchinis. The same thing happened with summer squash.

    My pinto beans are starting to come in, just not 100% sure if I should pick them now and let them dry. lol. Third year growing them, and I've NEVER gotten this many. So excited.

    Wow, that’s an abundance of bitter melon!
    Not many people can get past the bitterness but there are a couple of curry dishes I cook up to make it tasting great. You can add a little to smoothies since they are good for anyone with diabetes (in lowering blood sugar).
    One way of enjoying them is to let them ripen to yellow (go to seed). Once the skin splits and the red gel encasing the seeds is exposed, the red gel can be consumed. Spit out the seeds after and save them for planting/sharing.

    Love my early morning garden walks. Still have zucchini 3 of the 6 still producing. Staking and cutting off the bottom leaves has been a game changer. Tomatoes, okra, cucumbers, peppers, and brussel sprouts are still doing fairly well. About a week away from harvesting cantaloupe.

    I once asked my Vietnamese friend what his favorite vegetable was. He emphatically answered that it was bitter melon. I had to try it myself after that endorsement. If you like the taste of quinine, this will be right up your alley. I slice the young, tender fruit and blanch. Then I stir fry usually with chicken and vegetables. Bitter components in food stimulate secretions in the gastric system and aids digestion. It’s also a real change up pitch when you are stuck in a rut in your diet.

    Hey Jess. First time commenter, been watching for awhile. Ordered a shirt 🎉 (finally!). Thanks for all your content, I recommend you to all my friends who want to learn about gardening.
    I wanted to share that in my area (central TX zone 8b/9a) where it’s very hot and dry during our long summers, I am able to baby my indeterminate tomatoes through the summer and they take off again in the fall. They give me the most during the fall season so it’s worth it for me to keep them alive with extra water and shade cloth. Also with shade cloth, it’s not the prettiest but I zip tie shade cloth on my cattle panel trellises and it works great. Could be a short term solution 😊 just thought I would share.

    Here in Wisconsin, between the drought and smoke from Canada, my garden isn’t doing that great. I have picked 8 cucumbers and 1 gal bag of green beans and that’s it. No tomatoes, peppers or zucchini. It’s been a rough year. I’ll probably have to hit up the farmers market for most of the stuff I need to preserve for the winter.

    Here in western Washington I'm just starting to harvest the warm weather crops and will be in to September. We are a zone 8b, but it doesn't get as warm as other 8b locations. It takes quite awhile for it to warm up in the spring.

    We are having a coler August in norther California in the high Sierras at the 3600 feet level, feels like our summer in past years. Last year was horrible drought and heat, so grateful for all this.

    I've been growing bitter melon for about 5 years, I don't use them in the traditional recipes, I mostly throw them into soups and stews, but I also love them grilled with other veggies and lots of garlic. The way I eat them isn't for everyone, but I'm the rare person that likes bitter foods.

    I’ve seen people stir fry them in a wok and eat them that way, however, these are the same people that eat peaches while green and small.

    Texas gardens are fried to a crisp about now. I pulled everythng last weekend except some basil, the peppers, which are under shade cloth, and some red salvia that doesn't want to give up and the hummingbirds love it. That and my asparagus and my blackberry bushes are all that's left. And for the first time in years, I am done. I was going to start a fall garden by direct seeding this week and we are experiencing near record temps. I can't believe I am saying this for the first time in my life, my heart's just not in it right now. I'm probably going to kick myself come September when the temps get cooler, but I just can't, right now.

    In Oregon, my summer garden is just now harvesting. So far just zucchini, kale, and recently 3 small cucumbers. August is usually when things start kicking off and that lasts into September
