This is my first year collecting! It's hard to pick a favorite. I cleaned a Gallienus with near perfect silvering despite the debasement, a beautiful as of Hadrian, and a common Antoninionus of Probus but with a stunning ox blood patina.

My favorite (and most costly..) acquistions this year are:
    1) Solidus of Basiliscus (scare emperor) from the Mare Nostrum Hoard, meaning it has been on the bottom of Mediterranean sea for around 1450 years!
    2) tremissis of Zeno, struck under Odoacer in Italy after the fall of the Western empire.
    3) a semi-decent denarius of Didius Julianus, who ruled only 66 days
Happy new year, and may Fortuna shine on us all :-) But most of all, let Pax bring us peace!

My favourite coin of this year was actually one I just acquired a few days ago, an Owl tet from Roma, with a close second being my Corinthian type stater. This year my aim was to get some nice iconic Greek silver pieces, so I'm very happy with them :)

Some amazing coins! Have to admit the Greek Silver is my personal favorite, but these are all amazing coins!
But as for my top 10, in no particular order:
Tunisian 100 Francs, graded AU 50.
French 50 Nouveau Francs on 5,000 Francs, graded VF 30.
1893 O Morgan Silver Dollar, graded VF 25.
A Didrachn of Rhodes, minted from 305-275 BC, weighing 6.5 grams.
A Tetradrachm of Ptolemy XII, minted from 64-63 BC, weighing 13.9 grams.
1928 $20 National Currency note from Athena, Oregon; there are only four known.
A Denarius of Vitellius, my first ancient coin.
As of today, a Denarius of Domitian as Caesar.
    1811 French 5 Francs.
And finally, a 1934 Chinese Junk Dollar, graded AU58.
I plan to add more ancients to my collection this year, as I’m still relatively new to it, only have four ancient coins.

My best coin this year was nothing visually special but was very special to me, I had bought a lot of some old coins for cheap and just needed some cleaning, just bronze and copper. By best friend from college i haven;t seen in 6 years is Greek and her family comes straight from Greece, back story done; I was cleaning them and chatting with my greek friend as she is going through her PhD up in Philly and was having surgery, i said once I get a good one I would clean it for her and mail it because she loves history and science just as much as I do. I ended up taking two months to clean this coin for her as a gift, I had said it was Roman era and she was still stoked, come to find out the coin was made about 40-60AD and was minted in Phillipi, turns out her family can trace back to biblical times living and originating right oustide Phillippi and her dad was born right outside, very serendipidous and meant to be. Kind of cool holding a coin in your hand that mightve been a few miles away from St Paul or even handle by an apostle

I didn't buy a lot of coins in 2022, but I did manage to get my first orichalcum sestertius and it happens to be of one of my favorite emperors, Marcus Aurelius, so that was a nice way to kill two birds with one stone! It's a nice thick coin that weighs about 26 grams and even though it's weathered and has a gF grade (which helped make this denomination more affordable for me) it still has this lovely portrait of Marcus which caught my eye and am happy to have in my collection.

I began collecting coins (Greek and Roman) in 2022 thanks to videos such as yours. My favorite purchases are:
    1) My very first coin purchase -- a bronze Marcus Aurelius sestertius which on the reverse shows the emperor lifting Italia to her feet. I bought it for my daughter's birthday since she is very proud of her Italian heritage.
    2) The second coin I purchased (also for my daughter's birthday to celebrate her namesake) was minted in Thyatira during St. Paul's second missionary journey. Since he traveled through this area during his journey he could have carried it in his pocket!
    3) A serrated bronze Seleukid Kingdom coin during the reign of Antiochus VI. The obverse shows an example of damnatio memoriae where the portrait of Dionysus is cut through with an X. The reverse shows a war elephant. War elephants were used by Antiochus to hold the Romans at bay from conquering the last bastion of the Greek Kingdom. It worked until the Romans figured out how to defeat the war elephants -- frighten them. The coin also has traces of beautiful yellow-orange dirt in the recesses that really brings out the figures on the coin.
    4) A pre-Alexander The Great bronze hemistater using pellets (dots) on the obverse and reverse to denote value. The coloring of the patina is beautiful, with oranges, reds, and browns.
    5) And last but not least, my very first silver coin purchase. I tiny little thing at only 6mm and 0.27 grams. It was minted in the Kingdom of Lydia (the seat of the earliest coin production) when under Medo-Persian rule during the reign of King Darius I (Darius the Great) who is mentioned in Isaiah, Daniel, and Ezra.
I think this is what I like most about coin collecting, the interesting stories that go with the coins. Every coin I own has a story that speaks to me.

If someone has time, I have a couple of questions about my only Roman coin that I got some years ago. It is a coin of Diocletian, apparently an antoninianus, so not very valuable, but it is in a pretty nice shape, with some silvering still visible. The obverse features a well preserved bust of Diocletian facing right and wearing a radiate crown. The text reads IMP CC VAL DIOCLETIANVS PF AUG. I know the meaning of most of that, and pretty sure that VAL means Valerius, but the double C I'm not sure about at all. I figured that one C must mean CAESAR, but what about the other one?
The reverse features Diocletian receiving Victoria from Jupiter and reads CONCORDIA MILITVM. It also has the usual XXI and also the letter H. I tried to see what this H means, and according to some website it might mean that it was minted in Heraclea. Is this correct? The info I got when receiving it read "Antioch mint, RIC V 322".
