Cho'Gath was my main from S1 to S8 (Master+), and I still play him. AS+AH, in concept, is Cho's best build. Full tank Cho doesn't have enough offense, and full AP Cho doesn't have enough durability. On-hit/tank hybrid Cho has always been the secret sauce build, but nobody really plays it. The main REASON that nobody plays it is kind of messed up - players prefer fantasy to function. Tank Cho will just never die, and AP Cho can one-shot squishies at range. But if you want hard-to-kill (but not impossible to kill), and also one-shot-power (but not at long range) in the same build? On-hit/tank Cho'Gath is where it's at.
The best items for this kind of build are Dead Man's Plate, Wit's End, and Ionian Boots. DDP lets you just run at enemies, saving your Q for after they kite/cc you instead of wasting it trying to engage. The tenacity on Wit's End helps you power through most enemy cc. I like Warmog's Armor to heal back to full, so that enemy cc to poke me down in a siege situation does nothing. I like Navori Quickblades to keep Cho's Q and E actively doing their thing at all times during a fight. I'd say these are Cho's best core items, as E means Cho'Gath will never be hurting for damage. Wit's End is really all the AS you need, now that Cho has access to the Hail of Blades rune. But once you have Navori Quickblades built, you want much more AS to power it. One of the surprisingly good items becomes Phantom Dancer - a lot of AS, but also a lot of move speed to help chase down targets.
Full build for me often looks like:
- Ionian Boots (sell for Warmog's Armor)
- Wit's End
- Dead Man's Plate
- Navori Quickblades
- Phantom Dancer
This build makes for a rather fast walking tank Cho'Gath that can 1v5 E to death anything that tries to fight back. It's rather terrifying to face and a lot of fun to play. You'll typically want to pick Cho'Gath into an enemy team that won't build much/any MR and lacks cc, but if you face a hefty amount of both then you'll be happy to know that Q-spam along with 40% crit and the AD from Quickblades + Phantom Dancer (along with R on pretty short cooldown) allow you to remain extremely relevant. Just being able to spam Q giga-often is usually enough to win team fights.
Nashor's Tooth, Titanic Hydra, and Rageblade are all bait items. They definitely put in work in terms of early/mid game damage, but what you are actually looking for is to scale Cho'Gath's R stacks, ramp his move speed, and build in a way that ramps Quickblades well. Nashor's Tooth does do most of that well if you don't need Wit's End's tenacity and MR, and often you won't so be ready to make that substitution. Rageblade is also an OK substitution.
The best runes for this build are (imo) Hail of Blades, Ultimate Hunter, Magical Footwear, and Approach Velocity.

Thank you for providing this. Cho'Gath is my fav char in the game, but i've never REALLY played him because whenever I do, I can never carry. I always rely on teammates to do stuff despite being 10/0 out of lane. IMO he needs to be buffed in nearly every way possible so that his classic builds become viable

That's what happens when you don't have an ADC against a tank team. You needed some Vayne, Varus or Kalista to have a chance on this game

Best build for cho would be a build that focused heavily on what cho wants to do.
Which is get 3 autos off and get tons of health.
Best bet would be.
Unending despair + sundered sky + titanic hydra + deadmans or %movement speed damage items like phantom dancer+ cosmic drive + attackspeed boots.
This makes cho fast, high impact, and no bs that other builds have.
He has good base ad, so bops hit hard.
His e only needs 3 hits 4 with titanic reset. And then the R.
As an AP Cho assasin main, I can confirm, he really does hurt a lot, and he is such a flexible champion, truly an underrated S tier champ

Instead of the titanic you should've tried riftmaker, you would have sustain and more dmg on (mainly) E and nashor's, but it wouldn't fit with the on-hit, but imo would be better

As Cho 'Gath you always upgrade Q first or second, WHY! Upgrading Q gives it nothing, upgrading E>W>Q or W>E>Q both are stronger builds.

well you actually have 0 game knowledge if you seriously wrote this sentence to this video.
1. cs is more important than kills, u can be 0/20 if you have 300 cs u are full build anyway
2. there was a senna in this team, one of the best scaling champs, but somehow she had 150 cs at 44 min and dont come with the bullshit that zwag took all the farm because in the enemy team everyone had 200 cs meanwhile smolder had 300
3. even if they would gave ALL the kills to senna, she would have benn the same. useless. with that build even with 30 kills she wouldnt have any dmg.
Lethality build vs tank udyr, heartsteel skarner and rod of ages ryze.... and u actually think with more kills she would dealt dmg?????? xD
