    Indeed you are correct about baseline models. As an audio professional I have completed several projects using a base model 2013 MacBook Air with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD. Projects were stored on an external drive and the internal drive used exclusively for the OS and its applications. That laptop is still running flawlessly today. Fast forward to 2023 when I purchased my M1 MacBook Air with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. Performance is flawless and the value is unmatched. This laptop has been recommended by almost everyone in the tech industry over the M2 MacBook Air as the best laptop to buy in 2020-2024 until Apple removed it from their website. M2 runs hotter and is less efficient than M1 making its gains negligible in the chassis of a fan-less MacBook Air. With the M3 MacBook Air, Apple has improved upon the shortcomings of the M2 MacBook Air. They have brought back dual nand chips for SSD speeds compatible to the M1 MacBook Air and with the new 3 nanometer architecture of the M3, efficiency and thermal performance have improved. In my experience, the M2 MacBook Air is the one to skip. If you are looking for value and performance, get the M1 MacBook Air and if you are looking for the latest, get the M3 MacBook Air. Both machines in their base configuration are fully capable of professional audio, video and photo editing.

      I use a base M2 and it was never hot. It is more than capable and the fact the SSD is slower has no impact on my workflow. This machine is my main machine since almost 4 months. This is the best on the gon laptop. For heavy artiststic work I use My IMac for the rest this machine is more than capable. But yes the M1 was and still the best of the line-up same when it comes to the Pro line-up the M1 Pro is an amazing machine. I think Apple did the M1 chips line-up to good and the M2 was intentionally not as good as its predecessor. Same with the M3 the M4 is the next big thing. So I will wait until Spring 2025 to buy my new MBA but with 16-18gb Ram.

    The takes in this video are spot on. I’ve been using the base M2 Air since release day. My workload isn’t super heavy, but I do audio editing and Photoshop weekly, so I push the machine a little. It handles everything I throw at it no problem. I also have 10+ years of docs and Photoshop files from our church stored on the 256GB drive and it’s only about 2/3rds full. The base model really is plenty of machine for 90%+ of the users out there.
    And incredible editing on the video! So fun to watch!

    It’s more like a mental thing and the way it’s sound for most of us. 8 GB of RAM, 8 GB of RAM for something launched in 2024 and cost 1000£/€/$. My OnePlus 7 Pro got 12 GB of RAM and i bought that thing for 799£ 5 years ago or something like this. I don’t have a problem how Apple it’s doing RAM management, i have a problem how they manage my money because they are very greedy and you can see that even better when you start to increase the specs.

    I, personally, think that we should consider the 1300$ MacBook 13 M3 16GB 256GB as the base model. Please don't buy the 8GB version unless you do nothing on the laptop and are planning to keep it for a many years.
    For 1300$, I think it's a very good machine. It is unbelievably portable, not having to worry about carrying the charging cable at all. Just pick it up and put it in the bag. The battery life is ultimate. For me, it redefined the way I carry a laptop. I feel free. Lol!

    Thank you for this video. I am so confused. I have been using a 2014 macbook pro with 8GB/256 GB specs. It has served me for 10 years and it is still going alright. I want to upgrade and was considering the base model since here in Pakistan you only get the base model or if you wish to jump up then you will have to buy the 16GB/512GB variant which is very expensive for me. My usage is MS Office, web browsing mostly on Safari, Zoom calls, using Canva for my Instagram page and that is about it. I wish to buy a Mac that can easily serve me at least 5-6 years. I am not sure whether to gwt the base model since considering the evolution of apps and even future Mac OS upgrades, I am not sure if 8 GB would be sufficient even in the long run. Can anyone please guide me?

    I already have a 15-Inch m3 MacBook Air with 24GB of RAM. The reason why I chose the 24GB is because I plan on keeping it for about 2 or 3 years. Since I do a lot of coding, and some video/photo editing. A lot of bloat wear can be added to your storage without YOU the user realizing it. Just get 16GB of RAM if you do a lot of multitasking.

    • @j.guillen7135
      @j.guillen7135 Před měsícem

      @@TT-se1mdIt does heat up since it’s a fan less design, but it’s not that big of a deal if you have it levitated from your desk. Think of it like your gaming on your phone and it gets warm. That feeling. I would recommend 24GB with 1TB of storage for a good experience. 526GB of memory shouldn’t be an issue, but I don’t have a clue.

    Every single youtuber i've seen say the macbook air with 8gb is "Good enough" do NOT themselves use it and use the maxed out pro versions. Also it can do 80% of tasks?? if 100% of what you do is web browsing then yes, the air can do 80% of it. Everything else from compiling code, to even running apples own apps like final cut or xcode struggle to run on the base air models. Other than the looks the air is just a web browsing/note taking machine. But its excellent at that!

      @@ThisIsE Agree to disagree!😊 I was just speaking from experience. When I run Xcode iOS simulator for react native work or compile relatively large code on IntelliJ my m1 air base model heats up to over 100 Celsius and throttles like crazy. Not to mention it uses an insane amount of swap memory from the ssd. I think it’s time to upgrade lol.
      I’ll still keep using it for very basic tasks like spreadsheets of watching videos

    256/8gb is too little in 2024 for all but the most basic of users. I manage Mac’s for a living, and you can see the performance impact that 8gb devices have when compared to their 16gb counterparts when doing performance and stress testing.
    The most basic users can get away with 8gb fine. However they have no need for a $1100 device and can get away with a $300 iPad or Chromebook. At the price point of $1100, the MBA has no business having its anemic configuration.
    Macs are not cheaper to run for enterprise. PC, and Macs have about a 5 year life span in enterprise. Licensing is similar between both platforms also. People get their Office license through a E3 license, which all users will get regardless what device they have. You will still have Security clients that have licenses also. Unless your organization is fully Apple, and does not use MS/Google/etc for anything, licensing is very similar between Windows and macOS in terms of cost. You can argue resell value, but that was not mentioned so I wont go in to that topic.

    Thanks. Nice video. An M3 MBA with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD is deserving of a $1,099 price tag. My logic - the base model M1 MBA is selling for $699 at Walmart, add $200 for 16 GB and $200 for 512 GB SS and you're at $1,099.
