Raisin bread makes great bread pudding.
French toast for the cinnamon raisin bread
What would be really good also is to fry the tortillas and drop them in the soup.
Oh that would have been good!
I always add a can of refried beans to chili or even a pot of beans that I want thicker. Works great
Oh thats a great idea! I'll do that next time!
I ssssoooooo wish we lived closer!! We’d have so much fun canning and cooking and coffee-ing! Crumble some tortilla chips on top of the chili.
I bet we would have a blast! I can always use more friends! Especially coffee friends!
Ive been silent viewer for a while from Auckland NZ but had to comment to say, your videos are very hopeful for many Families who are struggling world wide to make ends meet. Thanks for sharing your love to provide the best for your Family by reaching out for help and letting everyone know its ok to seek help when you need as theres no shame utilising local foodbanks if in need. Todays dishes looked so hearty and will go down well here in New Zealand as we embrace Winter. Keep up the awesome content and kudos for keeping it real ❤
Thank you so much for all your support Ane!!
Carolina one of the many things I love about you is you don’t trash talk the food you get. You are always grateful and willing to try to use stuff. I have stopped watching some who do food bank haul because they sound ungrateful and entitled.
Oh man...I couldn't imagine being negative about free food! Especially most of the stuff I get is really good and stuff I could never afford! I am very fortunate and I'm glad I portray that!
Your a very fun cook. My daughter is learning from you and getting her girls to help . She was so surprised how much food gets given at food banks. She came and brought a sausage roll, rice, flour, onions, bread, I was dinner she learned to make country pepper gravy with sausage and onion and boil rice to mix inn with a light garlic onion bread and I haven't had that in a long time . Thanks for your help with all you do on teaching . We found our taxes pays the food bank so yes I don't feel bad as my property tax is $3,200.00 a year in a tiny town.
Wow that's expensive! I'm so happy to hear that I'm helping your daughter come up with some meals and not to feel bad at all for going to the food bank! Yay!!
I just finished one of those exact pork. I thawed it completely, then cut it all thin. I fried mini pork chops all week. mmm
Mmmm
I see cinnamon french toast in your future or perhaps bread pudding. When I was a kid my mom was of the low fat low calorie generation but when my dad would bring home cinnamon bread she'd make us toast with butter & cinnamon sugar blend sprinkled on top, so I do that for my son now but it's cinnamon, sugar & some pumpkin pie spice, I had abt a Tbs of the pie spice left & an unopened one so I just dumped the remainder of the open one in the cinnamon sugar shaker to get the container out of my cupboard.
That's a good idea! I love using pumpkin pie spice in replace of cinnamon in some recipes! It's got that extra punch!
I get so excited when I see a new video upload from you! Great job, I've been binge watching 😊
Oh yay! Thank you!
Oh my gosh, I am so touched that you gave me a shout-out for my recipe. I am beyond thrilled that you enjoyed it & I can't wait to post more recipes on your Facebook page, I've got one for Zuppa Toscana that has a couple different variations & you can even use cauliflower greens in it, I'll get that up today or tomorrow & my "broccoli" salad recipe
Sounds good! So glad you are posting so many wonderful recipes there!
Hi Carolina! 👋🏻 The opening shots of your homestead look so nice. What a view! Thanks for sharing your haul and chili with us. Take care. 👋🏻😀❤️
Thank you! It's so beautiful here!!
Ditto on the Montana view
Your videos don't disappoint. They are always good, the food looks delicious and the cherry on top is your beautiful, bright personality...you are a delight. Best wishes!!
Thank you so much 🤗
I’ve never used fennel cause it tastes like licorice (and I don’t like that flavor) but I’ve seen people make a vinaigrette salad with the white bulb part (and some other veggies) and the “fronds” cook well with fish or white meat chicken, from what I’ve seen people make. I think the stalks are hard to use because they are too tough, but maybe they go in soup stock or something and strain them out. Apparently fennel is very high in vitamins, especially C, so it’s good for you, if you like the flavor of anise/licorice. If you have an immersion blender, that can help thicken up the bean soup if you don’t want a bunch of cream (or only have milk). I’ve seen people use a potato masher in the soup, too, if they don’t have an immersion blender. It’s so beautiful where you live! Although, as it’s Montana…I’m curious about what the winter’s are like?
Thanks for the info on fennel! The winters so far aren't too bad. Lots of snow up on the mountains but doesn't get too deep down here in the valley. Sometimes it stays so cold for weeks and the snow never melts or becomes ice til it warms up. But we love it here!
You have a great food bank. Sheet pan faquitas would make use of those peppers. It is easy n good
I really do have a great food bank! Great idea!
Lentil soup with fennel is yummy.
Thanks Dolly!
I worked at a restaurant that would make club sandwiches on cinnamon raisin bread. They were flipping amazing! Huge seller 😊
Really?!?! Same ingredients as a normal club?
@@mamabairds yes, they’re amazing. I make them at home quite often.
@@mamabairds: I use Cinnamon Bread for French Toast. It tastes like it came off a restaurant's breakfast menu.
Also my mom would make something similar to this chili but she simply called it 3 Bean Soup since she used Black, Navy, & Kidney Beans in it. Then she used whatever meat we had on hand Chicken, Hamburger, Turkey (esp at Thanksgiving time), or Pork and that week's leftover veggies she had in the fridge. If none then a bag frozen mixed veggies were used. I make it now to this day, but call it Leftovers Soup. LOL
You have a gift for turning all of the food you get into fabulous meals!!
Thanks Jay!
I add fennel to Tortino's frozen pizza
Being fro. Minnesota, Totino's is in every store. There is the original restaurant in Minneapolis too. Also the school they started and still fund today, Torino Grace.
Your haul was amazing. Lots of good food for the family. Glad you can use the food that might have been discarded. You are talented and your food industry background is such a benefit to your family. Another great video.
Thank you!
Today was the first time I have watched you and I THANK YOU !!! You have already taught me new ways to use ingredients that I throw away.
Oh good! So happy I can help!
Always look forward to your videos. The food banks here are once a month, the other one is 2x a month. Times and money are so tight. Very thankful the food banks are available.
I am grateful as well! We would be in a completely different spot without them!
I received giant tortillas in the food distribution last week. I put them in the freezer and we’re making “thin-crust pizza quesadillas” tonight and have more left for another dinner.
You can also make the pin wheels, spread what you want, then roll slice into pinwheels. Warm the tortillas into microwave for about 30 seconds then flip 15 seconds. Or heat on a iron skillet. The stores usually have the pinwheels for sale with ham or turkey sandwich meat, cheese & vegs, in a party tray.
Thats a great idea!
I like making pizzas out of tortillas. Also a sweet option, i cut in triangles brush or spray with oil. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, then bake in oven until crispy. It's good with ice cream or apple pie filling 😋
@@PlayinMusic13 Thanks for the ideas!
I love those st taco kits from Costco. When you mentioned eating them as is or making something different, I was screaming white chicken chili. Looks great! I would have never thought of using potato flakes as a thickener when it came to this recipe. But will use next time. Thanks girl ❤
You bet!
Yum. I will need to make some of this. Thanks for the ideas. Never knew instant potatoes would thicken stews and soups. Yikes 74 yrs young and I learned something new. Cooked all my life. Lol. Thanks Carolina hugs Betty 🥰🥰🥰😘😘🙏🙏💕❤️♥️🌹🌹😘
Thank you Betty! Happy I could show you something new!!
I’m 65, and I keep learning new ways to thicken my soup’s and stew’s.. 💞😋
When using instant potatoes as a thicker, it is hard to gage the correct amount so mix it in a cup, with water or broth. I use it when making Taco meat so the spices stay with the meat not on the plate. At home I just microwave a potato to add as a thicker. If you don't have instant.
Make one street tacos and fry the tortillas on the other one and make it into nachos!
Nachos!! Great idea! Love me some nachos!
they have a weekly food bank here where I live that I go to. they box up the food for you and bring it to your car. last week we got lots of boneless chicken breast, the week before we got extra organic bananas (2- 40pound boxes). the week before that we got 10 - 50count bags of cheese pizza rolls. plus we get canned veggies and canned fruit. it such a big help I don't work outside the home. my hubby is retired and disabled.
That is so awesome! What did you do with all the bananas? I just got a case myself!
@@mamabairds we made alot of banana nut bread, banana pudding, peanut butter and banana sandwiches, also eaten by themselves. I also like slicing them up and put them in my corn flakes
Also if you have a food dehydrator you can soak them in lemon juice or fruit fresh to keep them from turning brown and put them in the food dehydrator and make banana chips
So beautiful where you live! Love your videos and your positivity Carolina! I hope you are stocking your pantry with extras! Uncertain times are here. Awesome videos and meal ideas! Stay well!
Thank you! Yes I am always stocking something or other! Scary times are coming indeed! Thanks for your comment!
Yummy!
I add tomatoes fresh or can. Also red chili powder to my chili. I make it with grd beef. Kidney beans, onions, peppers.
Oh tomatoes would have been good!
I love how you elevate all the food you received...very creative
Thank you!
Corn pancakes are amazing
Oh nice!
Chicken Corn Cowder with some of that yummy bacon.
I don't know how you get anything done. I'd be outside enjoying the view of the mountains sun up till sun down! Hahaha
It really is so beautiful! I'm a lucky lady
Cinnamon Raisin Bread oh French toast yum .
My gram use to take the raisin bread & make different stuffed french toast w/ all different things or shed just cut little shapes out & fry it in some butter you top it with syrup or whatever you want . 🖤💯 , Jalapeno poppers if u like those or I like jalapeno homemade hummus & I don't like fennel so I have no ideas on that one it taste like black licorice 🤮🤢
Oh that sounds good! I don't know what I'm going to do yet with the fennel
Wish my food bank offered this! We have to usually pick through moldy bread & rotten produce. Everything is usually expired or on the verge of molding/slimy. I’m thankful for the help it provides with oats & pasta but other than that isn’t much to create meals from at all. The milk I’ve seen is usually butter milk, not for for a toddler to drink :/ when they do have meat it’s a solid block of ice from being thawed & frozen over & over with ice crystals on it
Where are you? I'm In Chattanooga and get fresh produce, eggs, milk, canned goods, breads. Dessert and more. Good luck to you in this crazy time.
I would do a search in your area. Generally you can find more than one food bank in each area and it might be worth it to hit a second one and check out what they have. What I did in my area is took a list of them, went and visited each one, got what I wanted and decided on one final food bank to get the best food from.
Maybe you need to complain to the main food bank office in your area about the spoiled food and moldy bread. That doesn’t sound right. What if it made you sick?
oh that fennel!! A yummy cucumber, fennel yogurt dip is great in chicken wraps as a sauce or a dip for fresh veggies. mmmm 😋
Take the fennel and put it in your dehydrater and turn it into a powder. It has an onion flavor. It works great as a spice powder.
Oh thank you for that!
wow. wish we would get a deer. guess we have to go hunt first. lol. one year i helped someone can venison. it was so delicious once canned. so tender. so yum. great chili soup recipe. thank u Carolina.
I really like venison too!
I love the onions& peppers!
They were a great find!
The street taco kit is my favorite thing to pick up for dinner on Costco trip days! The crema is delicious!🤩
Love Chickens! We live in the city and have 7 but would love more.
I love them so much! We just found a lady giving away 5 hens. So we will be getting even more! Yay!
I love
instant or regular grits also are great thickeners if you come across that in your food hauls
Oh good to know! Thanks!
Love this channel ....keep em coming!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing ! It's been a minute since I watched you! Girl,.. ...7,000! You rock! 🙂
I know!!! That's so crazy! I'm just awed!
Cowboy candy for your jalapeños, yum! Put over cream cheese and serve with crackers
Yum!! I was thinking pepper jelly too!
@@mamabairds I was just getting ready to suggest that you make some jalapeno jelly, yummy. I just made some for myself and my adult son from jalapenos from the foodbanks. I have a friend that grows some of the really hot peppers, Ghost, Carolina Reaper's and a few others that I can't think of rn...lol, but anyway he always asks me to make him some jelly and hot sauce for him. The hot sauce I make I call it, "Light my fire" hot sauce, cause it's definitely 🔥🥵😆. As for the pork loins I have hubby cut the ends off for canning roasts and then cut the rest into boneless pork chops that I vacuum seal them for the freezer. I really do wish that our once a month food bank would allow us to go back to the shopping method, instead of them picking for you and putting into a cart for you.🙏❤️
Great food pantry Haul!!🌶🍞🌽 Have a Great Week!!👍🏻👍🏻
I'm going tomorrow morning to hit up the monthly food bank, haven't been this month, yet...lol and then on Tuesday going to the church pantry that I really like because they get more fresh local produce from our country farmers 👍🏻🙏❤️
Looked yummy for a gloomy day
Do you have access or a preference for clams? We use fennel and tomatoes sauce and cook clams in it and then serve with crusty bread. Sooooo good but clams are very reasonable here
Husband doesn't do seafood so I honestly don't cook it. But I like it and that does sound good!
Your chili looked delish! Thanks for sharing!
I just came across your channel, I am pretty positive we live in the same town, lol, thank you for sharing recipes, as I definitely need to learn how to cook more for my family
Missoula?! I'm glad I can be of help! Cooking can be a lot of fun once you get the basics down!
Yes, I just didn't want to put it out there on CZcams in case you had safety preferences, and yes, I ve always wanted to learn more, hoping to try my hand at banana bread soon, I am curious if I know your cousin.. lol
Fennel is wonderful in a pork roast with turnips or rite eggs. Yum!
cinnamon bread is awesome for bread pudding or French toast 😋
fennel is great in any dishes add to stuffing for pork, add to fish white sauce,it's also great in a white sauce with chicken ,you can add it to dessert as it has a liquorice taste,my gran used to add it to rice pudding x
Oh my goodness what a lovely haul !!!! Yummmmm on everything!!!♥️♥️♥️
Hi Carolina! I just started watching your channel I love it so much that I watched them all in one day for over twelve hours I couldn’t stop it was so fun I laughed so hard your personality is absolutely joyful. Keep producing more videos. I can’t wait to see what you have next much love from Salt Lake City Utah.
Fennel is amazing when it’s braised with peppers and celery
Oh thanks!
The view from your home is amazing!!!!
It really is!! I'm one lucky lady!
Great pantry haul I can't wait to see how many meals you get from that pork loin. That chili looked yummy I hope you have a wonderful week.
Thanks Angela!!
I've used that white chicken in the pouches before in a chicken salad with apples and raisins. I found that it needs a good rinse because the preservatives give it a weird taste. But the chicken is great quality.
Great
Dill is perfect for fish and I also make dill carrots 😁
thank you helping me with making new things out of food bank haul
So happy I can help!!
This soup looks so good! I’m going to try chicken chili, I make a mean regular chili but I’ve never tried chicken!
Regular chili is super good too!! Glad you are going to give chicken chili a try though!
I absolutely love watching you create dishes! Your soup looks amazing!
Aw thank you!
Yum 😋 how delicious ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely yummy looking
I recently made Colcannon soup which contained fennel. It was made with lots of potatoes, onions, carrots and celery.
I love to throw things together in soup and it’s always slightly difference. I use my home van verde the same way!!
I agree! Same with casseroles! You can pretty much add anything and it'll be tasty!
That looked so good! Love your ideas❤️
Thank you!
Looks yummy!
That looked good
It really was!! I was surprised it turned out so well!
@@mamabairds ❤
Thanks for inspiring me to try out a local food bank!!! I went today. It was such a thrill, honestly. I'll get to go twice a month, which is perfect for just my daughter and I. I still can't believe the abundance of great items I snagged; it's gonna be such a blessing. And honestly I've just been grinning ear to ear all day imagining ways to store or use, or otherwise be resourceful with it all. You're an inspiration!
Oh and guess what, one of my fresh items was a bag of 13 PLUMS! I just rewatched that video of yours; might attempt jam as my first water bath ever.
Thanks again. I love your channel.
Yay!! Thanks for telling me this! That makes me so happy to hear that I'm helping others check out their local food banks! Daw...with the plums, cook them longer than I did. Start with 30 mins once they get hot and simmering. Mine didn't quite set up...but it is so good! Are you on my facebook group? You can post anything you don't know what to do with and we will all try and give you some ideas!
That cinnamon bread would make awesome French toast.
Oh I bet you are right!
Great video. I made beer battered onion rings today and hot dogs. I still have the mess to clean up. My dad used to take me hunting when I was a kid.
Oh beer battered onion rings sounds sooooo good!
Great use of food. Thanks.
Fennel is great as a grated extra in your salad, roasted and grilled. I have just not seen them that small.
I'm still running through your old videos.
Great haul, and the chicken chili looks wonderful. I made some bean soup with a hambone this morning and will freeze most of that. How cool that your hubby took your daughter hunting with him. I love this time of year!
Oh bean soup just hits the soul the right way! I'm happy he took her too! It'll be a nice skill for her. She was crying the whole time though because she missed me. She's so sweet.
@@mamabairds Aww, that's sweet to know. I'd be a bit homesick for my mom also, must be kind of a frightening experience at first, especially if she was the only girl there.
Those beans are perfect. I do mine the same way
Keep the good job up love watching you
Really yummy!!
Yum! And so creative! I’m gonna try the salsa verde in my next pot of chicken chili! Thanks!!!
You're welcome! It made a huge difference!
looks yummy you know I canned a bunch of that salsa verde was wondering what to do with it well now I know lol
Great job as usual, love what you do.
It was really good in the soup!
I got bacon 🥓 last week from the pantry and cooked it up for bacon bits. I have it in the freezer already cooked thanks to you
Awesome!! So happy to hear that!
I have used the cinnamon bread to make French toast. It is delicious
Looks delicious
I never even thought about adding mashed potatoes just thicken up my soup but I'm going to try it the next time. Good idea.
It works great!
Looks delicious. Thanks for sharing
great haul! and the answer is ALWAYS TACOS!! hahahahaa
So true!! Nothing is better than tacos!!
Cinnamon bread makes great French toast and or bread pudding
Good ideas!
That looks delicious! I got a salad kit once in my food pickup that had the same cilantro lime crema-it was yum!
Oh nice! It was very yummy! Glad I added it to the soup!
Those Costco chicken kits are delicious!!
They are! I was so impressed! I think they are pretty good value after trying them and seeing how much comes with it!
I have stopped getting sour cream in the containers. We now get it in the squeeze bag by Daisy. Doesn't mold because there's no air that gets to it. Plus with me being gluten-free we can use that for everyone without it getting cross contaminated.
Good idea!
Yum the only difference I would have done was pepper in with the beef and a little in the mash.
French toast or grilled cheese with the cinnamon bread especially if you chop and add some jalapeños to the toasted cheese?
Oh that does sound good!! Good thinking!
You do an awesome job using all that free food and making great recipes, if I was in Montana I would stop by for dinner and seeing the kiddos lol 😊
That would be awesome!
❤yum! Love seeing your #s going up!! U go girl!!! 🎉
Thanks!! It's crazy to me how fast the channel is growing!
