10 Tips for NEW Guild Wars 2 Players! I’ve recently given Guild Wars 2 another chance, and I have been having an absolute BLAST in Tyria. Today, I’m going over 10 tips for new or returning players to Guild Wars 2 that I wish I knew about when I first started! #11 - get the hero points on the map, all of them, this is the way you unlock your character skills and "talents" you won't actually need all of them, but the quicker you get them the better so there is no reason to skip them
#12 - buy salvaging kits from NPC's, these are used to dismantle stuff in your inventory and turn them into crafting materials, so you can send them to your materials colecction, This is the main tool to clear your inventory. always have salvaging kits in your inventory, ALWAYS.
#13 - as you level up, at some point you will unlock dungeons, these contain important pieces for the main story, as soon as you unlock a dungeon, that's the point where you should do it, IN STORY MODE, ...if you care about having context for the main story
#14 - If you see a dead player, res them, it's proper etiquette and free exp for you
hands down #13 is a must!
#12 rather buy the correct salvage kit for the color gear (and always if it before salvaging)
#13 aka dungeons are pointless except for story or.collections/achievements and thus y I never did them
#14 it's prob an afk farmer and u can ignore them
tip 11 just do WvW and buy all your Hero Points that way... you'll also get tomes and will have enough to level all your alts.

The only the tip I could give is... don't play GW2 as you would WoW, SWTOR, ESO, or FFXIV for that matter, or you will feel miserable.
Play it like Skyrim or an ubisoft's openworld

I initially approached GW2 like I did FFXIV and I didn't have a good time. It wasn't until early last year that the game finally clicked with me because I approached it on its own merits; as well as spending more time trying to understand its systems and mechanics.

@@slytouge764 GW2's combat is more action oriented (including a dodge button). FFXIV's combat is more static and predictable.
GW2 doesn't have a traditional questing system outside the main story. There aren't really side quests, but there's a more emphasis on dynamic events and map exploration.
FFXIV's questing is more traditional of travel to point A to B. Deliver this to X. Go kill X and bring me back Y. These quests usually aren't tedious as the "kill X" and "collect x" quests don't have you grind the mobs such as having to find and kill 10 of them or have to collect 10 items that drop from enemies, but said items have a low drop rate. I remember annoying those kinds of quests were in TERA and glad am FFXIV's questing isn't really designed to waste my time.
GW2 has buildcraft in which every combat profession has access to multiple play styles within their core and elite specializations (no respec cost either. Ex: my main is a support condition damage Herald, but anytime outside of combat I can switch some traits and stances to suit different situations like if I think I'll need more healing or movement speed). Unfortunately each character is locked into your chosen profession upon character creation.
In FFXIV every combat job has the same play style. One character can play every single combat job, but has to level everything they want to play.
GW2 has account wide systems that allow players to not have to regrind masteries (such as mount access or abilities) achievements. Most currencies are also account wide through a shared wallet.
In FFXIV progression is all tied to characters; however since one character can do and play everything, most players (like me) only have a single character on their account.
I'd also add on to your note about the "Deposit all materials button" -- make sure you actually spend time going to your bank at some point and selling those materials. So many people struggle with making gold in the game, not realizing they have been accumulating a pretty decent amount because of depositing materials and then just leaving them there. When someone pointed this out to me after a few years of playing, I ended up realizing I had thousands of gold worth of materials just sitting there haha
It's also often worth it to NOT insta-sell your items on the auction house. People who place orders for items usually are offering substantially lower than what people who are selling are asking for, so if you list your item for a liiiittle less than what others are selling for vs insta-selling you can be making a lot more gold in the long run (and it often sells fast too, depending on the item).
Also re: trying different weapons -- you said there are no restrictions, but just to clarify for anyone who hasn't played the game, there are SOME restrictions. Certain classes/specs can't use certain weapons, Nixx just happens to be playing a warrior which has the most useable weapons and the most potential weapon combinations of any class in the game.
Great video , this one can go in 10) when finishing hearts sometimes you will collect trophy items , you can turn them to heart npc to speed up heart progress or you can just delete them to free some bag space , those items are usually of basic or junk rarity.
Immediately remove the double tap to dodge, jumping puzzles will be a nightmare with it on.

Good video, concise and gives actually useful tips, especially /wiki which people usually sleep. The wiki is extremely good.
If I were to add a tip, I'd say engage with the mentor/commander system as much as you can. Whenever you see that red apple mentor icon or the commander tag on the map, joining their shenanigans is usually a good idea.
Another tip. Log in everyday to collect your daily reward! Even if you don't feel like playing every day, logging in to collect your daily reward will benefit you in the long run. You can get a lot of mats, mog tokens, and leveling tomes that you can save up to boost an alt of yours in the future quickly. Also, on your 28th daily log in reward you get a special chest that can give you high quality mats or legendaries or Accended items. It's worth doing.

Less we forget, the first two expansions go on sale all the time for 15 bucks for both! If you like the game I HIGHLY recommend picking up the expansions, especially when on sale, because of all the benefits you get, like a glider and mount and of course all of the new content.

I am currently downloading GW2 again, the first time I tried today the game just wouldn't launch and crashed right when I hit play. But you've convinced me to try again lol went to the official site to download it this time instead of steam, hopefully that makes a difference.

Fractals - build one character with agony resistance. Then try raids, the WvW then just roam and do events. Work on legendarys
When it comes to exploration, i was so surprised when i went into a random cave in the Asura starting zone and it turned out to be a giant jumping puzzle. Loving this game.
Learning to dodge is indeed important I can also affect your character depending on your talent or spec like the mirage where the dodge is replaced by a whole new class mechanic
For anyone who wants super fast gameplay go daredevil. Its a thief elite spec where you'll be dodging just as much as you attack...also you get 3 dodge bars
And it's unavailable for LVL 1 characters.
I played the game since launch but haven’t been back in years.. no gaming pc :( but it was my first love when it came to mmorpgs. I love the leveling up and actually working for cool features that only you can unlocked if you work hard enough to complete what’s needed.
Same predicament as me, I've been using geforce now and it's viable for now!

Small thing about weapons: though you have many choices, not every profession can use every weapon. There are limits, some professions have more options than others.

My most important tip would be do the achievements.
The achevement system in gw2 is a legitimate form of progression that after completing some sets of achievements, a total number of them, or specific achievements - will reward you often with unique stuff.
Great video and good tips. Got tired of ESO (monetization, too easy basegame, lots of bugs, poor pvp, etc) and started looking for next mmo to play. After watching your video decided to give Guild Wars 2 a go.
Just joined GW2 and this was so helpful, the game needs to point out that "deposit button" because I had no idea at first.
Veteran of both Gw2 and ESO from launch, currently maining Guild wars. Lean back and chill, my mateys. Enjoy exploration and wiki digging for some obscure stuff you might want to unlock and find. This game is rewarding across the board, no matter what you do. Just get curious and explore!

Been playing for 2 weeks and its great, the combat is so good. I enjoy both pvp and pve, most of the content is quite rewarding and there's a lot of variety with fractals, strikes, raids, wvw, spvp, metas and world bosses + puzzles and other stuff.

Why do I DC when Im doing a story mission or move stuff in my inventory or teleport?

Glad you finally made it to the right game. =p Ex WoW player and now happy old GW 2 player.
So, you do not need a guild in order to get help. Just ask in the map chat (type /m your question) and you will be surprised about how awesome our community is. From answering questions, giving advice up to helping with killing stuff, they do everything for you, even when you are not in their guild.
Type /wiki et and the event timer will open (totally handy for world boss farm).
You didn't mention our gearing system. It's totally different from WoW's. There is no gear grind in GW 2 and even if you take a break for a year, you are still good to go.
Well, to put it in a nut shell, GW2 does everything right, WoW does wrong. =)

How social and guild/party/multiplayer dependent is end game content in gw2? How geared toward and actual guild and friend group is the game vs "looking for group" and matchmaking mechanics where you are paired with strangers likely never to see them again?
I miss playing an MMO with a truly organic cooperative challening multiplayer experience. WoW, for example, has largely become a singe player multiplayer game. Yeah I play with other players but mostly strangers. Very brieflt. I haven't been forced to depend on a guild to process content with a core group of friends in years. Thats the experience i want.

I actually played this game in beta, got the special pre-order, then my life went to crap and I've only played it very sporadically ever since.
The best part about this is, new kids, once you buy it, it's yours FOREVER. I got it 11 years ago, moved multiple states and 3000 miles and when I realized I could play it (mmo brain) I just literally signed in in 2 seconds on a new computer. Just keep all your relevant info handy (keep that serial number as if it's part of your soul) and you'll be good.
I love MMOs and I wish I had friends to play it with. It's surprisingly gorgeous even as it's aged, the combat system's fun as heck and the characters are all mommies and daddies and I still remember a lot of the quests even with my goldfish brain to this day. Best part is, even though I don't play a whole bunch, after this is done downloading, I'm about to sign in to like 6 characters' worth of 10th anniversary presents and whatever else I've missed.
Dude, I bought the deluxe edition on release day and didn't play more than 10 hours.
I logged recently and sure as hell, everything is there, but what you and I paid 80 bucks for is now free. So it's not groundbreaking to get your account back. You could get pretty much the same from Steam.
Of course, I am glad I got about fourty birthday gifts and my pantheon legacy.

If WoW had an account-wide shared Reagent bank with dedicated slots like GW2 has... Its crafting might not suck. Frickin' hate having to shuffle Rousing/Awakened elements from toon to toon in WoW.
I think it should also be noted that bags in this game are pretty cheap, just don't try going for the biggest ones right off the bat.
do some fractals and the 20 slot bag is only 15 - 20s instead of 18slot 2 gold bag
And another thing: Boons. Boons/buffs and conditions/debuffs is kinda OP in GW2. A party with full boons would do 2-3 times more dps than normal
And that's a serious issue.
well the personal story is lvl capped so when your between lvls you have to explore to get that extra exp
GW2 has one of the best leveling experiences of any MMO. Such a great time!
If you decide to lvl from 1 to 80 you should always focus your build around Power dps! You will kill enemies faster making the game more fun 😂 Power/Precision/Ferocity are power dps stats.
Time to Kill difference can be 10s to 60s depending how good build you have 😂

Tip #11 Mounts, there is no mmo today with a better living and breathing mount system! Each serves a different purpose and it is such an important feature that mounts are as much of your character as your weapon choices are.
ehh most mounts are locked until the last expansions, so you will only have a raptor. the mount system is cool, but when you have to change through 4 mounts to get to a certain point, is annoying af. Oh and 90% of the time when you dismount you'll be attacked, mounting into the other mount gets even more annoying...yall swear the mount system is amazing. and at the end, once you get the skyscale it makes the other mounts useless. same mounts, store skins.

@@Nglofcget the mount radial wheel addon. Also true about the sky scale, except the roller Beatle is still the quickest way to travel land. Skimmer/skiff travels water. Jackel can take sand portals. And the warclaw is strictly for wvw. So you’re kind of right, I think you meant to say you will mostly use the sky scale once you get it. Which is true. But you use warclaw/skimmer/beatle a lot too.

GW2 is not as good as the prime WoW but it hell is way better than the things Blizzard releases today. Also a tip: Kill yellow mobs randomly, there's a hidden mechanic where you get bonus exp for mobs that haven't been killed for a long time and people don't kill yellow mobs too often because they're not bothering them.

i got into it for a while, but the rotations for the classes just felt extreme complicated
huh? there is 2-3 button rotations
@@davincis1 the combos are extremely long and require really good memorization skills. not being able to see all my skills at the same time doesn't help either
@@_Malvar you need to look at fight not at skills and there isn't that many buttons unless you want to play piano with ele
@@davincis1 I raid for the first time a few days ago and can 100% say that you have to memorize animation timers because you can't see shit otherwise. The always stacked meta sucks if you want to actually look at what your character is doing. Hope some of the clutter goes away when the visual fx filters come.

Then I realize the horrid truth. I forgot everything lol. Character builds. How to properly play them. Where I was. What I was doing. Ah fun times
I’m not a particularly social person
I tend to prefer to be off doing my own thing, and when I’m in a group, I feel pressured to be with them because if we’re off adventuring on opposite sides of the world, why are we in a group?
But I don’t always want to do what the other person is doing
And sometimes, I’m just done playing a game for the day, but feel like I need to push because I’m playing in a group
That never ends well for my long term enjoyment
End result:
I play solo generally or with randos on occasion
I don’t really join guilds
Should probably try to at some point though
just get your group and talking to people anxiety out. everybody is working for same goal and if u want to do something else - you can! just leave the group and 95% they be fine

Me as a completly new player find that guide very good. But i have some odd problem. I get the basic game, just to look what the game is, before i buy the expansions. Started downloading it, around 20h+ later im still bellow 50%. My downloading speed is like 30-500kbps, very rarely goest to 1mbps. And its not a net issue. Da fuk is going on?
Meanwhile in wow your character just stood there listening to these NPC first world problems and then send you to do their fetch quests.
I. Hate. Jumping puzzles. Unless it is an amazingly awesome reward, i won't doi it unless I am forced to.
GW2 is ok I guess.
My main gripe is that you are showered with pointless items. They fill up your inventory so quickly. Even the rewards chests are scary. And only a single free bank tab.

Yes you need to buy. At least the mount expansion. You really need to buy it if you dont have 40 minutes to go to point A to point B. The main quest do this to push you. You do also need it to realese most endgame features. You also gonna need to buy gems for your bank slots. Just a tip. Dont put your time in this game if you dont wanna spend some good money depending on your currency, this can go really expensive.
the weapons part like you put it doesn't sound interesting, should have said "equiping a weapon in GW2 is equiping a whole new set of skills, unlike games like WoW where only the stats matter."

Expectations: Killing mobs with friend, video scene where we are present, killing another mobs, 3d custscene (pretty much expected GW1 but better)
Reality : There are holes on ground, interact with F, monster pop up, repeat 30x till quest bar fill. There is pouch on ground, interact with F monster will pop up, repeat 30x till quest bar fill. There is crate at beach, interact with F, repeat 30x till bar fill up.
Like, WHAT THE F*CK happend to GW :D , graphic is uglier than GW1 wtf. Like first 2 hours of gameplay are pure confusion hell with 0 to none fun, even when having buddy next to you. Btw I picked necro, and he has no summon, wtf :D . This game reminds me of Perfect world 2, first impression is pretty low.
Man I feel you. I was a hardcore GW1 necro. I bought GW2 on release day and gtfo the day after.
They are simply not the same games. Lore, classes and geography is shared. Everything else is different.
Did you know that GW1 is still up and active ? You can still enjoy this game, and there are still big PvE guilds, and I guess a bit of PvP too.
@@oneoranota gw1 was very good game, but I rage quited after ninjas had permanent immortality build, and were carring for godly loot whole party of people in insane hard location :), so I made myself same ninja also. Did carry for 1 day, on next day they nerfed it :) you could do it for half year and they nerf it day after you do it xD . So I rage quited. But other than that it was cool game. Noeadays am more fan of coop games. Like borderlands 3 :)

It's just bizarre to me a new player preparing a guide for other new players without having a good foundation in the game. I wish he could take his time playing through the expansions, then maybe I could take him seriously. But I also get it for financial reasons.
