I just found your channel the other day and have been binge watching since, great work, keep it up! Was wondering if you could tell me, I got a bunch of #2 hooks the other day as a gift. I mostly fish trout and crappies in southern NH and want to know if you had any suggestions on what to tie on said hooks. Thanks.
Awesome tips! Will definitely keep them in mind. That being said, I do have a question for you: I have been tying my own flies for almost 6 months now, and in that time I have found it easier for me to keep an even thread base and avoid any tapering on my hook shank if I snip my thread at the back of the fly before I lay my tail materials and begin wrapping back forward again. So my question is this: is it all too necessary to snap/snip your thread before wrapping to the hook bend when doing the thread base at the start, or does it not really matter? Thanks in advance, and I LOVE your videos.
Newbie here, instructions say to trim marabou hook length and tie. What do you do with the rest of it? Im hesitant to throw it away and it’s bulking up. Or the soft part of the feathers is it trash?
You mentioned on your Mainely Outdoors channel that you were going to utilize the feathers from a grouse that you shot for tying some flies. Is there any special prep that you do to prepare them? Do you pluck the birds or skin them, and then dry the skin?
Love your work, what 2-3 types of flies should one always have on hand. like 2-3 patterns of dries, midges, emergers, streamer? As I'm starting out I want to get an idea of what patterns I should start investing materials on before I go crazy and try to make every fly.

Simple, use a Black one, a Green one, or a Brown one and you will probably catch fish. Tight lines 🏴.
