I think these were sold under the Moth brand, the wooden case was quite typical of old Moth products. I'm not sure whether the HFN version was some kind of DIY kit you could buy through the magazine or just a rebrand. Either way, pretty typical audio product engineering. This would probably have been paired with NVA, Moth or Naim amps back in the day. The lack of earth doesn't surprise me at all.
