Brian…. I am in perfect health fortunately and started riding recumbent two wheelers in 2010 and test rode a trike in 2017 . Never turned back. I’m 72 and ride 1000 miles per month on my Catrike 559 and 700 with none of the usual cyclists complaints.no back, shoulders, wrist, or crotch issues. They are incredible and the only way to go. They are life changers for serious hikers young and old, healthy and impaired.

I agree Mark and we love our trikes. The trikes are very comfortable. You can sightsee more and just relax and enjoy the ride.

Neither of you seems physically impaired so I have to ask, why did you choose trikes over bikes with all their obvious limitations?

I have had three back surgeries and my balance is not what it used to be and recumbent trikes are fun after having one I wished I would have had one sooner.
I have had 3, 2 recumbent bikes in the past. After 1 of my back surgeries I ride over 100 miles on a bike trip with a back brace. Was considering another 2 wheel recumbent but decided to go this way with my balance issues. So glad I did. You can relax and just coast when you want too .

      LOL..
One doesn't need to be physically impaired to ride a recumbent trike 😂.
      Limitations?

      Hello Brian Bassett 4379,
My name is steve. I am an active bodybuilder, since 1968, am perfectly physically fit with no limitations whatsoever. My strength exceeds that of most folks, and my balance is excellent, no issues there. I have enjoyed bicycles since my teen years, and first got into recumbent trikes in 2009 because I wanted a comfortable vehicle for long cross country trips to replace my petroleum powered vehicle, a Nissan SUV. I chose a recumbent trike over a bicycle not for any physical issue, but rather because the thought of ultra long distances on a bicycle was not at all appealing to me. The common negative issues that all bikers experience (on anything other than a short area ride) are well known, so they need not be mentioned in this reply here.
None of those negative issue that affect long distance bicyclists affect long distance recumbent tricyclists. I have had four recumbent trikes since 2009, along with 3 bicycles, and have enjoyed them all, but for the long hauls out on the road, there is no doubt which I would chose, and have chosen. A few times, I have even slept on my recumbent trike when in an area where pitching my tent would have brought trouble my way from law enforcement or frightened citizens. Sleeping on the comfortable reclined seat of a trike, while not the best choice of course, sure beats getting hassled in the middle of the night (at least if confronted if I am sleeping on a trike, I can quickly hit the road, and not be cited by cops for tenting in a restricted area).
I have found recumbent trikes to be so useful for cross country travel that I began a website in late 2009 called Trike Asylum, as a central place others could go who wanted to learn about these vehicles (because at the time, there were no reference websites about recumbent trikes). I also began posting video content on my Trike Hobo CZcams channel to help other folks who have found a need for a recumbent trike.
Initially, I figured I was writing to other trikers similar to myself, but over the years, it finally began to sink in that the vast majority of folks who followed me were suffering from significant physical issues, and chose recumbent trikes because they were no longer able to ride typical bicycles. This surprised me at first, and it took time for me to understand that my fan base was largely physically challenged in one form or another, or with multiple physical issues that made bicycles an impossibility for them to continue cycling, and they figured cycling on a recumbent trike was preferable to not cycling at all.
I was somewhat bummed at first because I was not intending to write for people with physical disabilities, but now, I am at peace with this being the way it is, and I am happy to be part of supporting those less fortunate than myself. I still do video about trike packing in the wilds, something that most of my followers cannot do, and I think that many of them enjoy living vicariously through my adventures. I also now realize that most of my followers have equipped their recumbent trikes with electric motors because of their physical limitations, something that I have not done, have no need to do, and doubt I ever will. I am fully human powered, and always have been.
All this is said because I do not understand your comment:
"Why did you choose trikes over bikes with all their obvious limitations?"
Sure, recumbent trikes have limitations compared to bikes, but the reverse is also true, that bikes have limitations to recumbent trikes. No single vehicle can do it all well. It all depends upon what the rider is seeking! I do not ride a recumbent trike because I am unable to ride a standard bike ... I am perfectly capable of doing so, thus when I read your comment, I am confused because you seem to believe that a person has to be physically disabled for them to chose a recumbent trike.
Yes, that is indeed the case for perhaps most recumbent trike riders, who also electrify their trikes, but it most certainly is not the case for me, or quite a number of other recumbent trike riders, who choose recumbent trikes for their unmatched long distance capabilities, where ultimate comfort is paramount, when long hours for days on end is the order of the day. Yes, most long distance tourists opt for bicycles, but I can assure you that their level of comfort is no where near mine on a recumbent trike (and I know this personally because I have also been a bicycle rider since my teens).
I have also been a cross country motorcycle rider and racer on single track trails, and know the excitement of this type of riding, so if your stance is one that trikes are inferior to bikes because they cannot handle all forms of rugged single track, realize that is a very singular aspect of cycling in general, and is certainly not the primary focus of all cyclists. I have always been in a tiniest minority of people who chose a motorcycle or fat tire bicycle to ride challenging single track. It is healthy for us all to realize that what we each prefer is nothing more than what we each prefer, and to place that mindset on everyone is inappropriate and short sighted. We should all do our best to live harmoniously in the cycling world, supporting one another, regardless of how many wheels we have beneath our bodies. It is all great fun! It all has its virtues!
      All the best to your!
      steve

      Bravo! 👏... Well said Steve.
I think that about covers the whole gamut of cycling 😅.

I have a Catrike Dumont that I during the winter put on a set of rollers and pedal for a hour. I use sites like yours to break up the boredom.
I'm 73 with health issues from MAC Disease that I fought and won about 8 years ago, I had to have a Whiffel Surgery that found out I have Pancreatic Cancer than they found a spot on my left lung, they are going to take a Biopsy of it. Hope to find a riding partner for health reasons and ride my Trike.
    I love my Catrike Dumont.

I hope you can keep up with riding. It stinks when your body won't cooperate. Glad you are enjoying the videos. Hope your biopsy goes well.
