I was at this game and it was the loudest thing my ears have ever heard. Even louder than a U.S. Marine Harrier taking off. The Chicago Tribune wrote that the grand slam cheer actually registered on the U.S. Richter Scale. A great memory that will never be forgotten.
Did you notice? ... Maddon did not even congratulate him as he entered the dugout ... Montero was supposedly not well-liked by some teammates ... They actually released Montero the following season for casting blame at a pitcher, rather than himself over unfavorable base stealing stats against him.
+onewithmyself - no, I don't think he did. Montero was pinch hitting for him, so he couldn't have finished out the game. Rondon finished out the final inning.
I can hear Wrigley from my living room occasionally. I'm about a mile from it. I remember watching this on TV and heard the crowd before I saw this on TV. My satellite feed was 3 seconds behind. I heard the roar, looked at the TV and went, "Wait... No fucking wa--" CRACK! and it was gone. Hands down my favorite 2016 memory.
I love how there's a football game on one of the TVs at Murphy's Bleachers, like someone is actually paying attention to it while the Cubs are playing for the NLC.
Holy shit what a good call too. I know Joe Buck gets grief for his lack of emotion sometimes but damn that was one of my favorite calls of the postseason.

2007 finally put it to rest for Red Sox. WIn one Championship, everyone says you got lucky. 1 year wonder. The second one you knew David Ortiz would be in same sentence as Ted Williams and Dwight Evans (Can't say Wade Boggs cause 1996 Yankees made you hate him).

@@indo8479 The ba don't matter. He came through in the most important two situations in Cubs history. You know Mets fans are still mad at Beltran for striking out looking despite him having crazy 2006 stats.
I was at that game in the upper deck (my uncle's season tix I've sat in before), and I have NEVER felt the stadium shake the way it did. I even got a little scared about the infrastructure for a second
saw his potential early in the season then fell into a slump. THen he hit two in a row one game when noone else did anything that day, so hes got the batskills for sure.
You mean they booed Miguel "me first" Montero? Yeah, the guy won a World Series and still cried about not playing more. Not to mention throwing his teammate under the bus. Thank you, fuck you, bye.
Oh yeah - the guy that basically ensured the Cubs went to the World Series. The fucking reason why Chicago got it's first WS win in 108 years. Go ahead, treat him like shit and boo the guy. It was a total fluke grand slam by a guy who could barely swat a fly off the wall. There is also the fact that Blanton pitched like shit and basically served it up. Thank God that guy is gone.
First playoff game I have ever been to and it was amazing. It got silent after they tied it. When the Grand Slam happened, I don't think I have heard Wrigley any louder ever, at any other game.
We were at that game! All the people around us were 2nd guessing Joe for having Mintero PH! I said I like MM in that spot! I said that based on seeing him hit home runs earlier in the year!
Was at the blackhawks game this night and in the parking lot passing a TV inside a bar in the stadium I stood outside and watched the end of this game. Great night between a Hawks win and a Cubbies win
I literally jumped out of my seat when this happened. I jumped when Baez hit the homerun in game of the NLDS. I jump out of my chair when Montero crushed this homerun and I was squealing when Zobrist hit the double in game 7.
WTG Cubs on finally World Series since 1945. I was just hoping in 2017 (If not this year) they could do it!) WTG Montero and company afterwards. Rangers fan (2011 still waiting!)
I swear on my life I predicted a grand slam. I was sitting in Chicago five minutes from wrigley when I told my uncle we would get a grand slam In the next inning to win the game. Greatest moment of my life
We are all lucky to have seen this team in our lifetimes. God knows it will be another 100 years before we have another winning Cubs team I wish they would trade Contreras while he is still reasonably young and can shine on a decent team somewhere, like Rizzo.

@ 0:18... Listen to John Smoltz' expert analysis after the 0-1 pitch. Smoltz was a great HOF pitcher and is an excellent analyst for MLB as well. Gives great insight! Smoltz had a career record of 15-4 in the postseason. Even though, it would have been cool if he did not come back and play in '09 and thus would have played every game in his MLB career with Atlanta. And no, I am not a Braves fan.
4 years later and so many important names here are gone now... Addison Russel, Ben Zobrist, Dexter Fowler, Miguel Montero, David Ross, Aroldis Chapman, John Lackey... A Championship team has more than the "core talent" of Bryant, Rizzo, Baez, Contrerras and Schwarber. They have to have quality up and down the line-up. Something that I think as Cubs fans we're due to wait for for quite a while again.
I would love to know the winning percentage when the home team takes the lead in the bottom of the eighth or the away team does the same in the top of the ninth. It has got to be pretty far up there.
There was a great meme making the rounds the next day. It said "My name is Miguel Montero, you walked my friends, prepare to die."

I couldn’t imagine what it felt like running those bases with the crowd cheering like that, so powerful!
It's what dreams are made of. Every one of these players dreamed of doing it like this and montero does it big.
Joe Buck sounds more emotional than in years past.
ericradford2142
Because his wife Chokshaw was failing miserably
I'm sure the roar of the crowd fired him up!
That’s all sports broadcasters for the last 40 years
You should’ve heard him when the Cubs won the World Series! 😮
My beloved Cubbies would not have won that World Series with out MM. He was the very definition of an unsung hero.
They they traded him for stating facts that were being overlooked. He was a great teammate and hit numerous clutch HRs for them.
