I think you're better off pulling that plant out to let your peppers grow better. You could still plant some small flowers along there such as marigolds which won't take over the space too much. Just my thoughts 🙂

I recently bought your spring seed collection. I was wondering if there were certain plants that are a good combination to grow together and plants that should be avoided with each other.

Hi Evelyn - thanks for ordering the spring garden collection - it's definitely one of my fav's! All the varieties can be interplanted if you like, but tomatoes and basil make good companions. And I like to plant the lettuce at the base of tomato plants where it will get some shade. Have fun planting your garden!

California poppies are the gift that keeps on giving! The seed pods explode and the seeds self-germinate everywhere and keep coming back again and again. The bumblebees LOVE them. I would have never guessed that octopus stem is kale and that they could be cut like that and come back!

I love the idea about folding the smart pot down for the tomato and then raising and filling it as the plant grows. Brilliant!! The white flower in the pepper bed is a Vinca. Sounds like you might want to pull it out and make way for more peppers but if you do want to keep it for interest, just prune it way back like the peppers and it will bush out again. I have the same only purple. Great video as always. :)

Your nasturtium are edible and have a peppery taste. They're wonderful in salads. The leaves and petals of nasturtium are extremely nutritious as they contain vitamin C and iron. The leaves also have antibiotic properties which are at their most effective just before the plant flowers.
I'd love to be able to grow perennial sage. It has so so many health benefits. Too many to list here, but google it and you'll see what a fantastic plant you have in your back yard. I dry the leaves and use them all winter for a variety of health remedies as well as flavor in my smoothie and turmeric tea

cancer destroyer and helpful in easing arthritis and rheumatic pains especially the white variety it's a blessing that you have this everlasting supply of this low maintenance medicinal flower.

Hi CaliKim and Camera Guy, your gardening and efforts are splendid!
I too can’t say goodbye to a blooming plant. I would take that large vinca and compost 90% of it but take a small crown cutting to grow in a container as an accent plant. It will reinvigorate, bloom, be controlled and keep the memory alive. 🌱🌸

How coincidental! This year, we decided to plant some flowers with our vegetables to try to attract pollinators and repel pests. We planted California Poppies, Borage, and Nasturtiums. You took your electric hedge trimmer to tame your nasturtiums, and I am about to go take my electric clippers and buzz and fade some heads today.

Here while the nights have been above freezing, more or less, still too early to plant much outside. Good time to finish the clean up process as they ground is setting nicely. Vinca is the name of your overgrown flowers bed, it does reseed it self.
I would pull it out and wait for the new ones to pop up

I am new to gardening so I hope you will answer this question. Things that you grow and cut back and then you can plant other things there and still the pretty flowers come back in the cool weather?

Hi CaliKim and camera guy 😉, your garden looks soooo fabulous. I love nasturtium, cant wait for mine to grow, to have them in mine salads ( never tried them before ) The lovely blue flower, from your wild flowers bed, looks to me to be a phacelia. You can check it out here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phacelia_tanacetifolia 🙂
Have great season and greatings from Poland - Sylvia ☺️❤️

My motto is grow more food! Maybe if you have somewhere to relocate the tree? Or give it away to someone who wants it. 😊

Another lovely video as always! I'm so excited about planting cherry tomatoes, the varieties I'll be trying are "sweetie" and "tiny Tim" ;) I totally feel the same way about pulling flowers, its hard to pull them when they look good . . . Just curious, down in California do you grow Columbine's? In Manitoba, it's typically a shade loving plant and comes in several color varieties. Also, I've recently learned about sunpatiens and a plant called vinca , not sure if a person can buy these by seed or only by plant but they're wonderful in areas that have lots of sun and next to no shade. I recently posted on instagram about transplanting tomatoes, they smell so good already :) Looking forward to following along as the spring/summer progress.

As soon as I harvest my sugar snap peas, they go limp. Incredible right off the vine. Any hints?

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  Před 5 lety

Hello Lisa, sugar snaps ARE amazing right off the vine, mine don't often make it to the house! When they do make their way to the kitchen, I store them in the fridge in between layers of paper towels. This absorbs excess moisture and helps the last longer. However, they are best eaten asap, as the sugars deteriorate as soon as they are picked. Thanks for watching!

    Beautiful!!
When do you plan to transplant your warm weather crops? I’m surprised they’re not out yet because I thought you’re now having warm weather. We’re behind you (I’m in Zone 8b) and my tomatoes are already out. I just started acclimating my peppers and eggplants today..... but I’m thinking maybe I shouldn’t proceed?? I feel like I should probably wait until after you do it.

  • @EastMesaUrbanHomestead

I think that one plant is a vinca, those grow crazy if they have the opportunity I wouldn’t get rid of it all just cut it back
