Dan, you've single handedly inspired me to not only want to pick a guitar back up, but to build one myself. I got a wyvern template from you and I'm gathering materials slowly but surely to tackle the project this summer. Thank you for doing what you do!!
I love the idea of keeping guitars traditional in nature but having very unique and interesting elements. It came out very pretty.
I have 10 tickets for this guitar! None of the other entries caught my attention as much as this guitar! I need to own this guitar!!!
My favorite guitar you've created to date.Love the combination of woods.The fretboard is magnificent. The body shape is also a fav with the beveled edges giving it dimensional depth.The fretboard didn't look as yellow once it dried but it blended even better with the body and headstock. Just enough to break things up a little and make it stand out on its own being a lighter hue and obviously that very pronounced grain.Those "eyes" all over the fretboard are fabulous, I'm guessing they were knots at one time? Bravo....
There use to be this hippie painter guy that had like a short program that came on Sunday mornings. He had like a mini fro hair style and he would paint a complete painting through the duration of his show,giving techniques on various things like shading and what not. He'd kinda talk to his painting a bit and the animals in it a he drew them. His soothing voice and over all demeanor had a very calming tranquil effect on me as it probably did many of his viewers. Almost Zen like if you will,Lmao. Anyhow, you have the same effect on my senses as you narrate and do your builds. You must have good blood pressure,lol. Have you ever had a melt down over a big mistake? I took four years of woodworking in highschool and was shop assistant.I also took country carving lessons, had some projects that turned out quit nice and I've scalloped four fretboards all by hand no machines and they tuned out very nice. But were absolutely way too time consuming. If I were to do one again I'd use one of my industrial dremel type tools,along with the country carving multi blade knives and files I used previously. I have many various polishers,buffs, dremels from that time from a small polishing,powder coating business I had for a while. I love working with wood. Everytime I watch you I want to start buying tools. I've watched several Luthiers and you all approach various parts of the build in a unique way. I figured everything would be more standardized and some things are but much isn't. Where did you receive your teaching of the craft and or did you do a mentorship sorta thing? keep the works of art coming!

A large area of opal would look fantastic on the top of a guitar

Just as an FYI, Mutzil’s guitar sold decent numbers as an unusual piece. But Shock the Fox did crazy numbers.
I’d have bought these tickets as long as it was beautiful; I do love seeing the wood figuring. Do with that what you will in 2023.

I completely agree w/ you and your philosophy about building guitars and especially ones you want people to play daily. Some of your designs aren't necessarily my cup of tea, but I absolutely love all your choices of exotic wood that you use . Not to mention the fact that I really your building techniques, basically just how you build them . Keep up the awesome work !!

Wooo! Whooohoooo! This was the first guitar I bought tickets for- I ended up getting tickets for about 15 of them because I have a problem- because being Australian, opals are kinda our National gem- and loved the look overall. Excited to see it in person!!
Congrats on the win! I only just got a chance to watch through the drawings myself. I think at this point I'm just waiting on someone from Crimson to send me the appropriate shipping information.
@@OrbitalGuitars I’ll be sure to do a bit of a promo post when it arrives- not that I have any significant social media presence but it’s always good to at least give a shout-out- but I’m certainly aware the guitar is worth far more than the tickets raised. I did see on your web page that Doom axe guitar- thought that was UNREAL.
@@wittypedia2177 I kind of knew going into the competition that I probably wouldn't end up making a profit off the ticket sales. Really though, I'm just glad to know that it's going to somebody that really wanted it.
@@OrbitalGuitars well I hope at least you made a bit more than just the materials back so that at least SOME of your time is covered. Really enjoyed the videos of the build and will keep watching the channel- at least some CZcams revenue might ease the pain, if I hit “refresh” enough it might add up to a few cents!
First up, INSANE selection of wood you used, crazy beautiful, filling the cracks with the opal looks amazing, reminds me of the guy who got diamonds imbedded in his face in a Bond movie. The guitar itself turned out amazing, love the shaping, it's yours, but still within the realm of "normal" looking. Whoever gets this will be absolutely stoked on it.
Side note, as a wood worker, super jealous of the amazing wood you seem to have easily available to you.
I tend to spend a lot of my down time during winter looking through wood supplier websites to find interesting pieces to use over the following year or two.

Your guitars have a very distinct style, both design and material-wise (wood choice and opal of course). I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure I'd be able to recognize your work out of any other, and I think that's quite an accomplishment nowadays.

I'd say the fretwork for stainless steel only takes about an hour or two longer than regular nickel-silver, so maybe about 6 hours
