Thanks for the heads up! First time traveling with my quad, and now I'll be in compliance. Cheers!
Great video! Thank you guys for sharing your info and tips. Please keep them coming.
A stunts and freestyle video? On youtube the most common stunts include rolls and front/back flips and when flying FPV, these are pretty simple to get the hang of. But there are some reeeeally cool things that stand out, like keeping the cam pointing at a tree while going over it and flying down the sides of towers/buildings. How do you go about doing these? What is going through your minds while executing these manoeuvres? Limitations comparison between FPV and LOS freestyle? What else is possible (open air or involving objects)? What's your favourite move? Hope this poses as a good video idea!
LOVED it please keep up the awesome videos. Traveler's guides like this are the reason I subscribe.
Thank you so much guys. This video answered my questions.
Thanks guys. This has actually been one of my biggest queries, and well answered in good detail. 👍🏻
Thanks for this! About to travel with mine for the first time and its great to have this information.
Good video, very knowledgable of the TSA guidelines. Being Ex-TSA you guys did a very good job about informing the public about the powers of packing properly. Just make sure you're not late. It is recommended to arrive 2-3 hours early because with lipo's and new screeners your bag will be checked. Alot of us have seen these and determine what is good or not but best not to take chances and let the screener do their job. The rules are the rules and they are just their to inform them. If you have an issue you can always make it known in several ways look it up :) Thank you guys for the awesome video tho, it is very much appreciated that you are trying to make it easier on the public and the officers!
Thank you guys for the information. This was very helpful. Please keep it up. Love the racing videos.
Good advice guys and accurate of course. Interestingly, I'm getting less and less attention from security as time goes by. I guess they're getting used to lipos too. Taking them out and even letting them know that they're batteries before they get scanned helps a lot in my experience.
fantastic information Guys!! keep up the good work and love the channel :)
Been waiting for this for a while! I figured some of this stuff reading around in the depths of the internet, but it's cool to learn a bit more and have confirmations! :) Keep it up guys! :D
Great PSA! I like the balance between informational videos and FPV shenanigans. Keep it up!
Great information here thank you to the requester and thank you for the video. traveling soon and was looking into this.
a simple guide on gopro settings ie best settings for miniquad, maybe editing tips so the guys out there can achieve good vids for youtube, many thanks great episode.
Always helpful. nice episode !
Thank You! Great advice.
Great video guys! Very useful!
great episode I've wanted to take my quad abroad for ages ,hopefully this will inspire me as would like to come watch you guys at the f3expo later this year.
Great video guys, I'm going abroad soon and hoping to bring my quad so this is very useful for me!
Over FliteFest 2014 I had a great tip from a TSA agent who was so nice and helpful basically she told me exactly what Mr Steel said, always put the batteries at a separate bin and make sure they are the last bin so in the mean time you pick up the rest of your stuff. Also be nice to the people and explain what you are caring if you are asked! They are doing their job and not every single one of the TSA agents are bad people! (remember they are people!).
Cheers!
Ed
+rifted Well said, I've only had a bad experience with TSA twice now out of hundreds of times now which is very good.
Great episode. Top job!
Great video" Much interesitng informations!Thank you!
You guys are awesome! Thanks for the info.
Good Traveling Tips! Thanks.
Very informative video. Thanks.
very useful as I'm flying to Europe tomorrow! Thanks!
A very helpful episode guys!
Great advice, I was wondering about this issue just the other day.
I was actually just wondering about this as I will be taking a trip at the end of the month. RIOT ON!
great info, thanks chaps!
Love your work !
A video on vtx, vrx and antennas would be cool. so many hard to know what to get, and what works with what. great videos keep it up!!!
awesome info thanks guy's.
thanks for the info
Useful episode, Chad and Steele! Airport security essentially treat LiPos like laptops. Keep 'em in a padded case, remove them from your backpack, run 'em through x-ray in a separate bin, and you'll be AOK. :)
Love the video!! You guys should talk about FPV setups and radio frequencies, channels and mW output power and what is/isn't allowed. I think ive gotten all of the information i need to get into FPV, i just don't want to loose my quad whether it be because i used the wrong channel for my area or not having a license for a specific frequency or whatever else shenanigans there is to do with that. As you can probably tell i'm a little confused about all this.
+DaBobaNation Yeah i would love to see something like that as well. I think the license thing doesn't apply to the FPV world thoughyou never will have a transmitter that high of current. I could be wrong. Rotor Riot PLZ
Yep, I want that too, especially something about mW and transmitters. Diversity too perhaps.
YAYYY another episode!!!
Hey, great video! Could your next one be on cameras? Mounting, settings, etc. Keep up the great work!
Nice video, very helpfull. If possible please do a video on tuning apm 2.8 to have a flight as stable as with NAZA.
You guys are great!
Can you guys do a little explanation of the electronics setup(i mean the calculations of ecu amp motors amp and batery!) please?
YAY!!!! This was my question!!!
Yo guys!
Would like to see an episode on action cams. Ex. The different GoPro's, vs runcam/mobius, Yiaomi yi with superview and higher bitrate mod.
What you guys fly with, and why, and what your opinions are on the others.
I for one, have wanted to use a GoPro for so long, but due to the high prices and the fact that you often break actioncams, i haven't bought one (yet). Would like to see you testing these out and comparing them.
wicked video just what I need to know thanks 😆
Man I've been waiting for this video
I flew to Alaska and WY 8 years ago with a ton of lipos for my DIY AP rig and TSA was fine. Just had to swab them for explosives
Have to be carry on.
hey if you guys could do a video about FAA regulations like licensing and regulations/ registrations for fpv and what kinds of systems/rc you can operate without having any of the before mentioned that would be great. I'm 16 and am a newish pilot and dont quite understand all of the rules and everything and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Thanks for making each show too!! I've learned alot from your guy's channel!
Awesome!!!
Could you guys do a video on how to pick the core electronics for a new miniquad and how to make sure they're compatible? Primarily Flight controller, ESC's, motors and batteries? I've seen tons of build videos where they tell you which ones to get but not how to decide which ones to get in the first place.
PID tuning would be a nice vid.
+undermine28 How would you like to see the subject approached?
+Rotor Riot I get the theory behind it and there are a fair good few vids that do a good job explaining. I would personally enjoy a practical guide and how you can make it easier for yourself. eg bring a laptop to the field or hover in your yard. just an idea though. I finally got my zmr250 to work reliable and am now looking at finally tuning it and I'm not sure where to start
+Rotor Riot A very basic rundown would be cool, Like +undermine28 says there is loads of videos that explain the theory but not a lot for getting started. Some show and tell would be rad i.e. if your qwad does like this (show clip) you should look at this PID / start here, and so on. If that makes any sense.
Where did you get that TX box Chad?
Keep up the good work guys.
Crash Overrride
+Crash Override Steele has a nice "Howto" - PID video in his channel; (i watched it and understand why PID Tuning Howto Videos could not work)
Alright Ill take a look, I'm still interested in a Rotor Riot version though.
Very good tips guys! Also, in the US you can also go through the process to get a TSA Known Traveler ID (Takes a few minutes at a TSA affiliated station, you get fingerprinted and pay $85.00 but it is good for 5 years) which in most large airports will put you in a very short line (really nice) you will get treated almost like a VIP and not have to remove your shoes, etc. If they inspect the batteries it will be a quicker process all around and you will not be holding up a large line of cranky travelers. Known Traveler ID is just a good idea if you are going to fly regularly. I believe it is US citizens only....so sorry Chad!

Awesome video, as always. I'm about to open up a new US Store (posting with my personal account so it doesn't look like marketing :P) and I've been gathering a LOT of data from folks in my area that are interested in the whole FPV racing and Freestyle thing. One thing that keeps coming up around here is people asking about how to make the quad 'do' some of the things they see in the videos... i.e. tricks.
Even simple things like weaving side to side while moving forward can be elusive to the new flyer and some tips and tricks on quad control would be huge. I've debated making some videos of my own, to that end, but frankly, I'm not that good yet.
The format I considered was to show some 201 level control, things like turning a flip into a loop, or a roll into a spiral. Even yaw flat spins. There are some good videos on racing and fine control, but very few on freestyle.
The other idea I had for a video that I think you guys would knock out of the park is the differences between setting up a quad for racing and setting it up for freestyle. There are some important component selections that will change between the two types of flying and if you just go read the forums and reddit, etc, you'll end up with a mishmash that doesn't really cater to either flying style specifically.
I love y'alls work. I hope I can meet you all one day and tell Mr. Steele not to worry, my mustache is gone now so he won't have to deal with any mustache shame ;)
Good looking out guys!!!!!!!!! Hopefully everyone practices these safe tips when you all come to Hawaii later this year, WOOOHOOOO!! Let's do some hiking!!!
Great vid and good to see you guys giving such sensible info. Given Chad is from Aus it would be good to get some perspective on the rules for flying with LiPo batteries here?
Investigation into the effects of overpropping and underpropping (burning out motors/ESCs/no thrust etc.). Use a thrust stand for some 'stats and figures'. Make a point to read item descriptions carefully, so the motors aren't over/under propped etc. How to tell if you've over/under propped, so heat of the motor/ meeting puff the magic dragon/ felling less power then the motor description said... Would be really good if you could do this!
In Australia the rules are up to 100Wh per battery, carry on and as many as reasonable for their use. But considering a 1300 4s lipo is around 12Wh we can carry as many as we need.
traveling soon! thrird!
Woah! David was helping with Rotor Riot? I guess there was some sharing with Flite test crew and Rotor Riot (Chad Kapper being a part of both if you saw the earlier vids of Flite Test)
I would love to see a video on setup and small tips and tricks on building. being a beginner the hardest part for me I seeing videos of quads that work great but never getting it right myself :-P I have tried to make my motors never shut off and I have been fiddling with my pods for ever but never get it right. I files one thing and get another problem...
Hi guys, loving the vids, great info on carrying lipos and to add to this wealth of info i'm hoping Chad in particular can answer a very Australian question,
Due to the very strict immigration into Australia do you give your quad a serious clean to remove all mud/grass/dirt etc before coming back from another country flying? as I know even shoes can be confiscated if too dirty when coming into Australia so i'm a bit concerned, I really don't want my quad being confiscated when coming into Brisbane airport, Cheers guys and keep up the awesome series :)
can you guys do an episode on motors and selecting the right esc/motor/prop combo? thanks
I've got a lot of different answers on how to mount my receiver antenna wires on my quad. An in-depth discussion on receiver antenna wire placement on mini quads would be great.
+Dieter Woerz at 90degrees to each other and keep in mind that CF blocks RF... Keep them away from props and any sources of power the tip can short on... Any thin nylon tube is great to stick the wires in then fix to the quad frame Or zip ties and heat shrink the antenna to them. That's all you need to know.
Estos vídeos son muy útiles. El padre de Chad me respondió una pregunta sobre el transporte de lipos por Facebook. Muy bien que hicieran un capítulo al respecto.
you guys should do a video on what parts to buy for a new pilot, like what things to look for and what NOT to buy
At the beginning lol
When you come all the way from Sweden to help out but the squad still roasts you
I love quadcopters and it's nice that Dubstep found a home
Nice vid. Can you do a short video about waterproofing the quad ?
Another ideea is a tutorial how to start and organize a race .
I would like to see a beginners guide on rates, rc rates, rc expo as well as min command/ min throttle all with differences between cleanflight and kissfc (and others?)? I have a generall understanding of these but im always not completely certain what they do and how they work. Thanks
Im curious as to why you pick one component over another in your personal quads. Why choose naze over dodo, why one motor over another? Just curious what the big selling points were on the parts you like to use. (receivers I think you went over a little bit in the Taranis video, that was nice)
Love the Alien RR5 guys, nice price as well
Right first time. No intro required!!
Hey guys!!
Great video as allways :)
But what about the batterycharger and power supply? Do you check it or carry it onboard?
/Matt
What camera lenses do you guys run? Trying to see what kind of lens for my board camera and im looking at different lenses with different fields of view 90, 130,180 ect. Might make for a good quick video showing each one and how they look. Thanks!
A good lipo sack is the one from TBS, it has the IATA regulation printed on it.
I flew last year internationally and didn't once have a issue.
Somebody needs to design a true lipo safe bag like the lunchbag, maybe adjustable velcro separators for each battery within it. Would not only be nice for airline flights, but also to carry your batteries to a field for a day of flying. Nice labels and everything so TSA knows what they are dealing with a little faster.
+RandomChaos Lipo bags are only designed to protect a certain capacity of Lipo. above 2 or 3 packs and it's kind of pointless.
Can you guys make a video explaining how you go about cleaning a multirotor, and also are the motors suppose to not feel smooth after they have been flown with a couple of times?
+Inteous FPV air compressor every time :)
+MTL Racing good idea!
How about something on roll rates/expo in general, and expo on the flight controller vs the radio.
a Video about Motor specs would be nice. find the right motor for the quad. 2204, 2206, 1806, what is the difference, etc.
Love the videos! but would be fun to see the guys use the other RC planes we see in this room! like race them with the quad!
+Pagna Flite Test does that all the time :)
+Rotor Riot ok but it's more fun with the rotor riot team :p
I hereby request the following videos:
- Striptease tips
- Cinnamon challenge
- 4 player FPV rock fight
- BJ tips and tricks
- shorted LiPo hot potato
- Game of red rover, quad vs line of people
- How to shave with your quad
- Othello performance where you 4 play all the characters
- Taser tag
and ideas for the RR store - rotor riot "version" of Chad's back pack featured in the vid
++ it would be cool to have a LIPO bag "lunch box" designed for a reasonable amount of lipos
I am not sure if you have a video on flying regulations and licenses, but that would be good to know as well.
I'd love to see if you guy's could come up with some sort of sport/game to play with multi rotors, maybe something like real life quidditch. something I'm trying soon is attaching pin to my quad to see if I can catch and pop helium bloons in the air.
Cool idea!
nice video hey what bag is that for the controller? the grey one?
Hey guys, I am dying to hear what Umma Gawd has to say about his special version of the vortex pro by ImmersionRC! Also, what setups do each one of you fly the most? (I.e. Frame, flight controller, motors, batteries, ext...)
Thanks so far! I am loving all of the multi rotor stuff!
Can you guys please make video On the FPV equipment you guys use and recommend? At the moment I am trying to decide if I should get the Dominator HD V2 or the Dominator V3 I have heard good and bad about both but with a $200 price difference it’s hard to believe that the HD's would not be way better.
can you guys make a video about motors size and maybe esc's
Regarding a PID tuning video: Let's skip the beginner stuff which we can all find pretty quickly on the net. I would like to see a video where you guys address the most common tuning issues and the procedure for accessing/correcting. Thanks
Chad,
Can you please make a detailed video with KISS FC Rates? I'm having a hard time understanding how it all works
The mysterious David W in the background... gotta watch till the end.
Excellent information however the only thing I think you should add having had two batteries confiscated in the past is that any battery needs to have their power outputs and ratings printed onto them. And it is cautionary that the batteries travel at half charge.
2 things first the "tech" vids are awesome and keep them coming
BUT I do love the early "fun" ones like the DJI and the drones VS GUNS
first I would like a vid on what makes a frame GOOD or BAD and NOT why a 5" VS a 6" but what to LOOK for in a frame and WHY
secondly how about racing a quad LOS from a FPV cam on a chase quad - set up teams of 2 and one flies the lead the other pilot flies the FPV BOTH pilots view the second quads FPV FEED and is a timed event
What do you guys think about the RTF Qav quads.
Are they worth getting instead of Vortex etc
Thanks for this! I am flying to France and the airline is a Max of 2 spare lipo's. Seems like a lot of recharging to be done :(
Quick question, Do you carry them at storage charge? Also do you bring your charger with you and do you check your charger or carry on in backpack? Thanks again for the great video!
+Thomas Lazette Storage charge is a good idea but not regulated. I check my charger with my luggage
rotor soccer w/ beach ball an goal is fun.
Hi, If I carry battery for my electric scooter inside check-in baggage if they discover they going to take it off from my bag or best to carry in hand. what is process. Please thank you.
Would you guys do a tinywoop or fpv pico quadrace (ratemode)?
How to waterproof your quad!
I'm not sure if someone else has asked this before, but it would be very useful for a lot of people. :)
from american airlines:
Notes We allow up to 2 spare batteries for personal use, with restrictions: Each spare battery is individually protected in accordance with our lithium battery acceptance policyBatteries are in carry-on baggage onlyFor a lithium metal battery, lithium content cannot be more than 2 grams per batteryFor a lithium-ion battery, total equivalent lithium content cannot be more than 8 grams per batteryUp to two batteries may be carried as long as total lithium equivalent content is between 8 and 25 grams
---> So why do you say, you can carry as many lipos as you want?
