Can anyone say BALLET? Growing up, I danced for 15 years and Tony's feet (not to mention posture, weight distribution) are the perfect example of a well-trained dancer. We were taught this method as a way to protect our knees from heavy impact over time. I'm stoked to see this method works for runners too! In the words of my ballet teacher, "Toe! Ball! Heel!"

  • @EffortlessRunning

Really cool to see how an experienced ultra runner struggles with an adaptation of the stride.
Also, well done for not letting your ego get in the way and think, "yeah, but I run ultra's."

This is interesting because watching Rich move about barefoot is kinda like watching those funny videos of dogs, trying to wear shoes. It takes time for the relationship to change. Or as Tony would say, for your muscles and tendons to learn how to react with the enviornment. He really is on point when you break down what he's talking about

RIch, you live in a paradise for "training," but it's more than that. It's calming and relaxing and quiet - super invaluable to both mental and physical health. Great roads for riding, trails for running, and a drive down the canyon for swimming. Awesome.

Love watching the videos on your channel... and loved watching you go through the running exercises.
I find it interesting that this running style, which is very natural, is not more widely known. My dad taught us this 45 years ago during soccer practice. Shoes (cleats, actually) had to come off so we would learn how to run and how to properly maneuver and kick the ball. This kept us injury free... from running, anyway. Regardless, I'm glad you are sharing this with the world. Run Happy! Run Safe! Run Injury Free! ... and keep up the cool videos.

Genius. I just found this video the other day. I used to be a heel striker but after I read born to run, finding ultra and a few other books, I really started to study running form properly and I changed my form. This is just giving me more to think about. Finding Ultra was the first running book I read. If I hadn't read it I don't think I'd even have started.

Been running barefoot and in minimal shoes (not as much as I'd like to, but still...) for about 4 years now, and it's still interesting to listen to. On the one hand, to better understand what I've been doing just automatically for years, on the other hand to look for things that I might have done wrong or maybe could improve 👍 As for the rocks big and small that you step on, yes, rough gravel is uncomfortable in the beginning, but the thing that keeps me from actually running barefoot most of the time is the asphalt/paved paths. I'd burn my feet in summer if I didn't have at least some kind of protection. Grass or forest floor is great, but then again, I stepped on a bee once, now that's the type of injury I'm afraid of :D

My only snag with Tony is, having visited his website, is the prices of his courses. They're way out of reach of anything I can manage. Still think he's great though.
Main snag with you is Tony didn't run from the south of England to the North of England. He ran from the South of England to the North of SCOTLAND. Doesn't sound much but if you're from Scotland it is a big difference. If you want to keep it all one Country he ran from the South of Britain to the North.
Keep doing what your doing. Love it. ✌️
